Are you sitting down? We don’t know how to break this news lightly so we figure the band-aid approach will work. Rockstar has told confirmed that there is no demo in the works for Grand Theft Auto IV. When asked why we wouldn’t get a taste of the epic crime title before it launched on April 29 on the Xbox 360 and PS3, Rockstar told Videogamer that creating a demo, “isn’t worth the time and effort.” They do have a game to finish you know!
There’s more to why they’ve decided against it but everything sums up to a simple naw son in the demo category. While I’m sure we’re all upset we have to wait until the street date, can you fault Rockstar? Demos are usually reserved to build hype for a game and increase potential sales and if anything is going to sell in 2008 it’ll be called Grand Theft Auto IV. Well, that’s because Barbie’s Horse Adventures IV: Return to the Saddle was delayed until Q1 2009.
We’re actually a little relieved about the lack of a demo. The last thing we need to see during our rigorous Fox News marathons is a piece about Microsoft offering free trials of a murder-simulator for kids over X-Box Live (FYI - that’s purposely written incorrectly as an homage to Fox’s accuracy.)

Yet another round of Halo Kubrick love will be releasing later this year when Medicom releases series two of their Halo 3 Kubricks. And just like the first series which came out last year, this set will feature four overly adorable, super attractive Spartan figures, but in white, gold, steel and green armor. The four pack will be available sometime in September and retail for around $20. Also, we’ve been told to keep an eye out for an uber rare orchid colored Spartan Kubrick. Then again, who’d want an orchid colored Spartan? Purple, pink or magenta we could live with … but orchid?

We also wanted to point you in the direction of the Gamerscore Blog’s post about upcoming XBVM content that’s set to release in March. Capcom and A.C.R.O.N.Y.M. Games just sent word that their, announced way back in April ‘07, XBLA game Rocketmen: Axis of Evil will be gently landing on the XBLA next Wednesday, March 5th. Capcom also included a few new screenshots (galleried below) and from what we have the ability to tell, we’re in for some cel-shaded arcade shooter shenanigans. Rocketmen: Axis of Evil will set you back 800 Microsoft points and supports four player co-op locally and over Xbox Live as well as fully customizable character creation. Let’s hear it fanboys, “Rocketmen GO!”

After weeks of solid Xbox Live Arcade releases from such re-envisioned classics as RezHD to new-age addiction like Poker Smash, we can’t help but wonder where one game in particular is. Ikaruga, from Treasure Video Games, has been at the top of our most wanted list since it was announced at the Tokyo Game Show in 2007 but it still hasn’t found its way into our hard drives (currently it’s the only XBLA title announced at TGS07 that has yet to be released.)
Visiting the official product page on Treasure’s website (translated) we know that the game will ring in at 800 MS Points and that it’s set for a winter ‘08 release. With March quickly approaching we can’t help but wonder if Ikaruga will be hitting the Marketplace sometime in the next few weeks. Ikaruga’s XBLA release checks off each major bullet-point for the service, such as: hi-resolution graphics and achievements, as well as added bonuses like 2 player co-op and support for both 16:9 and 16:10 widescreen.
Kotaku ran a story in early January confirming that Ikaruga had made its way to Partner Net, an industry-only beta release of Arcade titles in development, so we’re optimistic the classic shooter will go live very soon.

For the latest edition of XBLA in Brief – where we take a look at the trial versions of the latest Xbox Live Arcade games — we’re doing something a little different. Rather than type up a long summary of a three minute trial game, we’ve put together a video that highlights everything you need to know. Please, enjoy our look at Triggerheart Exelica, and tell us what you think of us using video for XBLA in Brief.
This video is also our latest episode of X3F Television, and subscribers to the 360 Fancast will receive it via their aggregator of choice. The M4V is also available for download right here. The high resolution streaming version can be found by clicking the “read” link.

Earlier this morning, SouthPeak Games announced that it’s bringing X-Blades, a third person anime hack and slash, to the Xbox 360 later this year. And from the press release (viewable after the break) it sounds like X-Blades is some sort of anime gone wild, death and destruction fest of magical enchanted’ness. That’s the best way we have the ability to describe it. Examine the press release and examine the “blade-swinging bombshell” Ayumi in the three screenshots below. Anyone feeling the X-Blades?

Yesterday, we made mention of new Battlefield: Bad Company multiplayer details and embedded some (super knife!) gameplay footage. We were also quite open about how promising Bad Company is with its solid visuals and destructible environments. So, when we came across the new’ish video above, we figured we’d share. The video shows off the game’s destructible everything, including trees, walls, buildings and fences. You’ll also see bunch of “love ‘em or hate ‘em” duffel bags popping out of dead bodies. That’ll take a bit of getting used to. Also, we recommend watching the video through the end, because there’s some explosive goodness in the final thirty seconds. Boomer go boom!

In an attempt to further blur the already-pretty-darn-blurry line between “software distribution system” and “digital hub,” Valve is considering adding music and video content to their Steam distribution platform. Valve marketing VP Doug Lombardi spoke with Tom’s Games at GDC last week, and mentioned that the idea of expanded content is currently being bounced around the office.
Specifically, Lombardi says that Valve has already begun reaching out to companies involved with those forms of digital media, and expects some small degree of non-game content on Steam before the year’s end. Other forms of digital entertainment would place Steam in more direct competition with the diverse offerings of Xbox Live, but might also put the humble platform up against big-boy services like iTunes and Rhapsody. Whether that type of intense competition will be productive for the platform remains to be seen.
