Initial D, a moderately popular racing anime in Japan and the US, is coming to the PS3. Like the show, expect lots of tuner-based racing. Don’t get your hopes up, though. The PS3 release looks to be inspired by the arcade coin-op version. As in the case with all anime licensed games, it’s smart to keep hopes low for the PS3 version. Maybe that way, we’ll be taken by surprise at how the final product performs.
A US release hasn’t been announced, but check out more screens at Famitsu.

For those who picked up a copy of God of War: Chains of Olympus this day, you might have seen the ad on the back of instruction manual. Clearly an ad for the PlayStation 3 version of God of War, it simply reads “Coming Soon” with no real information.
Our sources are indicating that GameStop/EB Games will start taking pre-orders for God of War III starting tomorrow. So if you’re in the mood for throwing five dollars down to reserve a copy of a game which you’ve never seen or know anything about, tomorrow is the day for you. Seeing as how you should already be done with Chains of Olympus, you might want to take into account trading it in towards your pre-order. Oh, I kid!
If you recall, information about Chains of Olympus started coming to light within days of God of War II’s release. It’s not a stretch to think that we may begin seeing more on the God of War III within the week. Please?

Now, this is less of a confirmation and more of a slip, but it does give us hope. According to Gizmodo, Sony let it slip in a current comment to MCV that in-game chat is on the way.
“Our momentum will continue with the introduction of in-game communication in the summer, firmware update 2.4 and the strongest line-up of games through our third celebration partners and our own studios. I’d personally like to thank our trade and business partners for helping us on the start of the PS3 journey.”
This is interesting, and I’ll remain hopeful. But what’s with all the teasing? We’ve grown tired of waiting for this tech that the other camp has had for a while. Teasing doesn’t cut it any more.
This tiny slip gives promise, but no details. The “in-shirt XMB” shirts handed out at GDC were cute, but we didn’t hear anything about in-game XMB after that. We keep hearing about a PlayStation Network overhaul and a new video store, and even more rumors on this have been coming out of the retail-only Destination PlayStation event, but all we have the ability to do is wait for the rumored “sometime in April” and go about our daily lives.
Come on, Sony. Give us a heads up!

With only two games in the bag, Kyoto-based developer Q-Games are already making a name for themselves. While their first game, the PlayStation Network title PixelJunk Racers, only turned a few heads, it’s been PixelJunk Monsters that has truly caught the attention of the gaming community.
Recently, I had a opportunity to chat with the studios founder, Dylan Cuthbert. I probed him on the genesis of Q-Games and “PixelJunk,” the one-of-a-kind creatures of PixelJunk Monsters, what he learned from his time with Nintendo (Cuthbert played a pivotal role in the development of the original Star Fox), and the future of Q-Games and the PixelJunk series.

The man known as the “founding father of the modern role playing game,” Gary Gygax passed away this morning , March 4, at 69 years-old. Gygax, known for creating the massively popular pen-and-paper series Dungeon & Dragons, was a staple in the miniature war game scene in the late ’60s and helped propel fantasy writing and creativity into what it has become this day.
Even though Gygax had been in poor health, suffering multiple strokes and a near-fatal heart attack, he was a mainstay on fantasy forums and gaming sites before his passing at his studio home at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin .
“I would like the world to remember me as the guy who really enjoyed playing games and sharing his knowledge and his fun pastimes with everybody else.,” Gygax once described himself during a 2004 interview with GameSpy.
Ernest Gary Gygax is survived by his wife, six children and seven grandchildren.

After a one week hiatus, Ask X3F is back in all its glory. A few readers were … upset by Dustin’s take on our weekly feature, so this week we’re spreading on the thick salve of knowledge to make things right (though personally I thought it was funny). This week we talk video capturing, gamertag changing, Halo comics, HD DVDs, and potential uses for the 360 HD DVD player (other than coaster). Find enlightenment after the break.
Got a question for Ask X3F? Maybe you’ve a story or some information you’d like to share? Send it all to ask [at] xbox360fanboy [dot] com.

Some things are just too odd to not pass along as today we were sent a new commercial for everyone’s favorite crab fishing game Deadliest Catch: Alaskan Storm. And … well, we aren’t sure what to make of it. The video shows two of the show’s younger “stars” talking about the game and how cool they’re, but something is off. It’s nearly as if the commercial is supposed to appeal to gamers in a “oh, they’re our age and are hip like us, cool!” kind of way, but it’s just too darn awkward. Maybe awkward isn’t a valid description. Corny? Yeah, corny works. Give the video a watch, prepare for awkward confusion and walk run to your local video game store to slap down a Deadliest Catch pre-order. Also, we feel obligated to tell our younger readers to stay away from tobacco and to refrain from ever using the word “moonboots” to dis someone’s mom.

360Sync had an exclusive first-look at the achievements for the upcoming survival-horror game, Condemned 2: Bloodshot. The sequel to the 2005 Xbox 360 launch title has achievement tasks that’ll sound mighty familiar to gamers, including finding various television sets and completing the game without the use of a firearm.
While the achievements, as they often do, have vague descriptions to them we’re a little scared to ask what the “A La Mode: 5 scoops of everything,” achievement could possibly stand for. Also, we’re not even going to speak about the “Survivor King: Bum Rush Survivor multiple times” cheevo. We’d hate to throw out spoilers!

We have exciting news for Robot Chicken fanboys today as the special Robot Chicken: Star Wars episode is available for buy exclusively through the U.S. Video Marketplace. We say exclusively because you can’t buy the episode stand alone or on DVD anywhere else. And really, if you have your DVD pre-order already in we’d probably suggest canceling it. Not only will you’ve to wait until May 20th for Robot Chicken: Star Wars to hit DVD status (ouch!), but you’ll also be paying a lot more. Right now you can get the episode from the XBLM for the standard 240 Microsoft point price tag saving you about $7. May the force be with you!

Sometimes it’s funny to poke fun at big-box retailers for missing small things, like release dates for example. From countless of broken street dates to outright insanity, the large guys have been known to make mistakes. This week, the Target flyer promoted Dark Sector as being the new hotness — unfortunately they didn’t realize the game isn’t scheduled to release until the end of the month.
We’d like to envision the game section manager of each Target had his staff clear off a special area for the upcoming third-person shooter and proceeded to give a touching speech about how shoving strategy guide sales down our throats would only benefit us before they realized their shipment was a few items short.
[Thanks, Mike P.]
