From the people who brought us such hits as Jackass: The Game now are bringing another piece of pop culture to the realm of video games. Currently in development at Transmission Games is a game based on the Sin City graphic novels, (not the movie) that is currently due for release at the tail end of next year. Licensing the comics instead of the movie is both a wise and foolish move for the company, as the comics have much more story and depth, however they lack the actors or recognition that could make the game a huge hit; so all in all it’s a bit of a gamble. The IP has a lot of potential, but all that could mean is a more spectacular failure if the game isn’t of the utmost quality. And with only six months of development behind it, it’s impossible to tell if the devs will make good on that potential. The most interesting bit of news from the announcement is that the publisher foresees a continuing bi-yearly series out of the property, despite not even being out of pre-production for the first game. You can be sure we’ll keep an eye on this one as it goes forward.

Featured at GDC along with a host of other games, Braid is an time-bending platformer that will hit XBLA sometime this summer. The simpler aspects of the gameplay and design hearken back the to the early days of platforming history, but the inclusion of control over time adds enough depth that this could easily be called a puzzler wrapped in a platforming skin. The players capability to play with the fabric of reality is limited however, to allow for levels of difficulty and replayablity. For example, there are certain things in the world (enemies, items, etc) that will not respond to your attempt to bend them to your chronal will, and will continue in timelines of their own changing the way you must use or avoid them. The game will have many different modes and looks to our eyes to be an interesting and original experience, but hey, just watch the video and see for yourself.
[Edit: The video is now working, sorry for the delay.]

Having updated the Halo 3 playlists earlier in the week, this week’s Bungie Weekly What’s Update has TONS of information for players to sort through. Touching on a variety of subjects, the update is rather long and actually begins with a list of things that it will not contain (sorry folks, no lolcats or Mister Chief). The update does give more details on the March Playlist update, as well as updating the community on the status of a potential bug that made an appearance on ESPN. The more interesting bit (for us anyway) of the write-up comes at the end where we’re told of an quirky (though not very useful) feature of the plasma pistol and an explanation of how the game creates the screenshots that we all know and love. Not surprisingly the explanation is rather technical, surprising however, is the method by which the game arrives at the final screen that appears on Bungie.net. Most folks around the net assumed it was just a bunch of anti-aliasing, and well, they were wrong.

It’s been a while since we did an actual Metareview, hasn’t it? If memory serves, our last time was with Mortal Kombat II way back when the site was still blossoming. Well, we’ve all been fairly swamped and couldn’t dish out a proper review for a few games that still deserve attention, so we’re bringing the Metareview back for games we want to review, but couldn’t get around to playing enough to be confident in our opinions. This day we’re covering Army of Two. So how did the game stack up? Take the jump and find out.
