How To: Use PS3 SixAxis On Personal computer - The ideal video clips are hereWe’ve probably talked about it before, but some people have found ways to use the PS3’s Sixaxis controller on the Personal computer. However, we’ve only been told things or seen images serving as proof. Now we have a fantastic tutorial video to show you how you can do it right now, at home. If the video wasn’t edited at all, you could have a functioning Sixaxis on your computer in about three and a half minutes. Good luck!

Where is the PS3 homebrew scene? Considering how active the PSP scene, one would think that Sony’s other console would get the same kind of attention from hackers. It’s not that people aren’t trying — rather, it appears that Sony has learned from their mistakes with the PSP.

PSP was rather insecure from the begin. A primer from “nikkelitous” explains that “the PSP didn’t have any security protections in the first version: Thats right! It essentially ran anything that you put on it.” In spite of Sony’s continued attempts at fixing PSP security through firmware revisions, the damage has already been done. “The PSP now has a very powerful security system, but like the Greeks, we had people inside. Once a system is hacked and understood, very little can be used to continue to protect it.”

Not only has Sony made the PS3 much more secure, but its use of Blu-ray makes it significantly more difficult to hack. “It’s not using a DVD drive it’s using a custom Blu-ray drive, we can’t simply copy the disks, and we don’t know enough about the firmware on the drive to accomplish a ‘debug mode’ even if it’s on there.” Of course, all of these hindrances aren’t stopping the hacking community. They’re going to keep on trying, and will probably one day succeed. However, it’s clear that this time around, Sony isn’t going to be taken off-guard.

A new Starcraft 2 trailer has finally been released earlier tonight in Korea. Blizzard showed off the new trailer and GameVideos has the offscreen footage. This time, the Zerg are shown off and they’re ready to make a comeback. A female voice, who is more than likely Kerrigan, tells of what has happened to the Zerg in the four years after the original Starcraft. The Zerg have evolved and the swarm is stronger than ever.

Am I the only one who got goosebumps here? The epic music, the new Zerg creatures and seeing just how much action and characters can be on the battlefield at one time is simply extraordinary. Hopefully a high-res version of the trailer comes out ASAP. Until then, what did you think of the new trailer?

A second PS3 Singstar game is in the works? This speculation started when a June 2008 listing for Singstar Vol.2 popped up at an Australian retail listing site. According to Kotaku, a SCE Australia rep couldn’t confirm the title, but did hint at the possibility of SCEE’s London Studio expanding the franchise via another disc-based update.

Is a second Singstar volume really ready to hit retailers so soon? It wouldn’t be too surprising seeing as these titles get churned out over in PAL territories each six months on average. Then again, shouldn’t the PS3 Singstar have better longevity than its predecessors due to the addition of the SingStore? Also, hasn’t the SingStore just recently been updated with a sizable amount of tracks? Color us negative, but if we see more big updates like the one on March 7th, then why would there even be a need for a second volume so soon?

What do basketball players, helicopters, men in suits, and parties have in common? We could make a potentially rude answer (a cookie to the one who guesses where our logic train was headed!), but we won’t. The answer, as a matter of fact, is Midway’s new title NBA Ballers: The Chosen One. We don’t know what the game is truly about from the video, but we envision it’s something that’ll end up involving massive names in the basketball industry. So long as the game doesn’t remain as ugly as it currently appears, we’ll keep you posted.

The Poll Police are technically on leave this week, as there is a break in the spring for their studying activities, but they still feel obligated to interrogate you, regardless of your schedule. Not much happened in this week worthy to gauge reactions or expectations news-wise, so we’re going to take this chance to see how we can superior serve you. We posted some metareviews this week, something we hadn’t done for several months, and we’d like to know if you’d like we did that for games we can’t get around to review ourselves. More or less if you would prefer have something to read about a game, even if it’s just a compilation of early review scores.

Would you like us to keep doing metareviews?
Yeah, they’re worth reading.
Not for each single game, but every now and then.
Nah, they aren’t that important.
pollcode.com free polls

We enjoy writing them, but don’t consider what we’d want you to answer. What’s important is if you find metareviews worth your time to look at when a game is released, but we didn’t have the time to review it ourselves. That’s it for that. Check out last week’s poll for the unsurprising, but humorous, result after the jump.

We reported previously on a European retailer advertising the 360 price drop and here we are reporting on another article about the very same thing, and this time it appears to carry a bit more weight. The Financial Times Deutschland has an exclusive on this, claiming that the official prices of the units will drop from 280 and 349 Euro, to 199 and 299 Euro. Now assuming that a fairly well known financial reporting body such as the Financial Times Deutschland isn’t lying, this could be a huge for the European 360 market. It would allow the Arcade unit to undercut the cost of the Wii by a good 50 Euro, which is a bullet point that was almost undoubtedly taken into account, and it would leave the 360 well ahead of the PS3’s current European MSRP. It seems the only thing we’re waiting on with this one is the final confirmation from Microsoft.

*Sigh* Here we go again, the latest overblown news story to come out of the mass media regarding video games. This time it regards a pair of children who were playing on the internet (its unknown what game, as all the article states is: “while playing a game on X-Box Live, a video game that allows you to play against people anywhere in the world.” Now whether of not “X-Box Live” is a video game in and of itself isn’t really the issue here, the fact the the article mentions receiving pictures is. Because that setting can be disabled.

While the education of parents as to the extent of their own capability to filter their children’s content is a problem, some of the statements made in the news article are downright silly. Things like: “Jennifer (the mother) now fears the safety of her children” do much more harm than good. So for all readers out there who could find a moment to educate those folks who aren’t quite so up speed, it would benefit us all.
