Remember that game, Killzone? Yeah, apparently PS3 fans think it’s some sort of “big deal.” The unsurprisingly named official site of the game, Killzone.com is being updated, and will integrate with your PSN ID. The latest update states: “Killzone.com is currently undergoing important changes behind the scenes. We’re joining forces with the PLAYSTATION(R)Network to offer you new and exciting functionality. To take full advantage of future upgrades to the website, and to preserve your current profile, please link your Killzone.com account to your PLAYSTATION(R)Network account.”

While it’s unclear what kind of enhancements are being made to the Killzone.com on the internet experience, we’re excited to see the PSN ID become more ubiquitous. SCEE also recently announced that its forums will integrate with the PSN. Clearly, we have the ability to anticipate something significant to happen in the coming weeks.

[Thanks, grief!]

What’s this? A sports game review, in MAH Destructoid?

Ah, baseball…America’s national pastime. It’s my favorite sport, and as an avid fan and a hardcore gamer in general, I’ve always been heavily invested in the outcome of its digital representations. So each year, I scour gaming websites for reviews and thoughts on the newest iterations of the numerous sports franchises out there. But lately, I haven’t had to spend as much time doing that.

As most gamers know, exclusivity deals for baseball and football videogames for 2K Sports and EA, respectively, have completely transformed the market. Ask pretty much anyone except the publishers themselves, and you’ll hear that exclusivity is the bane of gamers everywhere. But EA and 2K are surely working hard each year to refute that idea, though arguably, they haven’t been entirely successful.

Will this year’s effort be scored as a hit or an error? Does 2K Sports strike out looking or go down swinging? Will I stop making awful baseball puns? Is Major League Baseball 2K8 a worthy successor to EA’s MVP Baseball 2005 atop the throne of baseball videogame supremacy? Read on for the verdict.

If you had to boil down this month’s NPD numbers to one statement, it wouldn’t be about any particular system (despite how my headline reads). “Videogames are blowing up” would probably be the best summary. The industry as a total is up 34 percent, hitting $1.33 billion. Gamers laugh in the face of recessions!

Sony did it again, and Microsoft called it. Sony’s press release used the word “eclipse” when referring to its sales against Xbox 360’s. At first, I thought it was funny, and maybe too strong of a word. But, year-to-year sales have doubled, and they managed to move 280,800 systems to Microsoft’s 254,600. If you want to talk “eclipse,” check out the PlayStation 2’s numbers: 351,000 systems were sold in Feburary. That makes this oldie-but-goodie the next best selling system to the Wii (432,000)! Let’s not forget the PSP: February was a great month for the portable, with 243,100 systems sold.

We’re still a few weeks away from the magical April update that PS3 owners are anticipating. While there have been no concrete announcements on what to anticipate, people want in-game XMB and Home, and we expect Sony to deliver… something.

In the meantime, there’s not much to offer you. Don’t blame the messenger. This week there’s a ToyHome Expansion Pack ($6.99) that promises six new cars, two new playrooms, and 4-player on the internet and offline multiplayer support — and it’s all somehow packed into a 100 KB package.

The children at GTAforums.com got their covetous mitts all over the latest issue of PSM Spain, which just so happens to feature an extensive writeup of Grand Theft Auto IV’s thus far still undetailed multiplayer. Thanks to their translation efforts, we’ve got some potential details on what we’re going to go out on a limb to state will be one of the most popular multiplayer games of the year.

There are purportedly fifteen multiplayer game modes (full list after the break) with support for up to sixteen, absolutely customizable players. The gametypes they sampled included two racing variants; two deathmatch variants (team-based and free-for-all); two mission-based “Mafia” variants; and a co-op version of a single-player mission. Of course, God is in the details, and after being spoiled by the elegant multiplayer systems in games like Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4, we’ve got equally high expectations for GTA IV.

The Destructoid community always kicks ass, but this week they’ve really outdone themselves by setting up everything needed to successfully integrate Super Smash Bros. Brawl with Friday Night Fights.

On top of that, they’ve produced an incredibly large list of friend codes and gamertags for all the FNFers (a work in progress). So if you’re ever feeling lonely and want to meet some new people, you can begin by taking a look at the attached image.

You all know what to do by now, so hit the jump to see this week’s hosts and instructions for playing FNF Brawl.

Honestly, I’m not very familiar with Firefly Studios’ Personal computer real-time strategy title Stronghold: Crusaders. So when I was being given a demo of the upcoming Stronghold: Crusaders Extreme, I had completely no frame of reference. So rather than pretend to know what I’m talking about based on a ten minute presentation (and I’ve never done that … no, really!), I’m just going to go ahead and post some screenshots and the fact sheet for the game.

But I will state this — of the 11 games I had a chance to see at EIEIO 2008, Extreme was the only game that was based on an existing IP. If anything, you’ve it to give it up to Gamecock Media group for taking chances with small development houses and new properties. That’s what you guys have been crying for, right?

XBLA in Brief returns this week with a two-for-one look at both Bliss Island and Brain Challenge. Bliss Island is a strange collection of boring mini-games that clocks in at 400 MS points. Brain Challenge is a pretty good knockoff of Brain Age for the Nintendo DS. One of them is actually entertaining. That game is not Bliss Island. We’ll give you one guess as to which game was halfway decent. Watch the video above and rejoice in the fact that you will never have to play Bliss Island.
