A lot has been stated about Atari’s latest foray into the Alone in the Dark series. From touting features like next-gen sticky tape and flammable everything, Alone in the Dark still looks like it has the potential to do the one thing it was always intended to do - scare us. While the above trailer does have a few “what the!” moments, it showcases another feature added to the series, vehicles. One thing we have the ability to say about the latest footage is the environments look fantastic. We’re hopeful for this one and can’t wait to play it when it finally scares up at retail this May. Oh and before you ask, Christian Slater isn’t an unlockable character.

Hmxsean just posted next week’s Rock Band DLC over on the official forums and all we can state is be prepared for some Earache thrash.
On Tuesday, March 18th Harmonix will release an Earache Thrash Pack to the XBLM for 440 Microsoft points comprised of three master tracks from Earache Records bands. Ear-aching master tracks including “Blinded By Fear” by At the Gates, “Thrasher” by Evile and “D.O.A.” by The Haunted. As always, each chunk of musical DLC can also be purchased separately for 160 Microsoft points. And if you couldn’t tell, yes we do have a frown on our face from today’s announcement. Ever since we knew “D.O.A.” was headed to Rock Band thanks to a tiny leak, we figured it would be from the Foo Fighters. Obviously, we were wrong. Hopefully The Haunted’s “D.O.A.” is equally enjoyable.

Continuing our coverage of Capcom’s Digital Day event is gameplay from the upcoming Lost Planet: Extreme Condition - Colonies Edition. Colonies is the Platinum edition of the best-selling title Lost Planet: Extreme Condition adding new characters, multiplayer maps and modes. The most exciting of which is the capability to play as the Akrid, the enemy monsters from the single-player game, in various modes along with a ton of other announced features.
Gamers who have an old save file and are thinking of pinking this one up to continue your Lost Planet adventure should be wary. Capcom has stated that the game is not compatible with the previous release. Colonies has been built for cross-platform play with Games for Windows Live in mind so we assume the code had to have been changed, sure that doesn’t make sense for single-player game but anyone interested in this version would be in it for the multiplayer if they’ve already played the original. But on the lighter side of the news, the game will feature 1000 fresh gamer points to be acquired. Check out Akrid gameplay after the jump.
Lost Planet: Extreme Condition - Colonies Edition is set to release on May 27 on the Xbox 360 and PC.

According to a trademark filing found by Kotaku, Sega has “shotgunned” Sonic Unleashed. The filing applies to “video game software [and] computer game programs.” Clearly based on that thorough description the newest Sonic game will be a dating simulator.
In all seriousness, this one can’t possibly be worse than Sonic’s last outing on the Xbox 360 and PS3 - we hope. Also, note that this doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the Sonic RPG Bioware is working on. We can’t wait to see what Sonic does next. We are so totally serious and not being facetious at all, not really. Oh, and when was Sonic ever leashed.

Update: Our initial understanding of the article might have been a bit off and led to a mild misunderstanding. After re-analyzing the CVG interview, we now believe that the timed exclusive nature is referring to the 360 version becoming a PC version a few months later with no mention of Mass Effect 2 headed to the PS3. Sorry for the confusion folks.
Semi-confirming industry analysts’ predictions, BioWare senior manager Matt Atwood told CVG that Mass Effect 2 will more than likely be a timed exclusive for the Xbox 360. When talking about the Mass Effect trilogy and how it’ll be released, Atwood revealed that he believes “we’ll be Xbox 360 exclusive for at least a short period of time.” Atwood goes on to say that they’ve “had a great relationship with Microsoft and done very well”, but that they are still working out specifics regarding future Mass Effect releases. Later in the interview, it was also revealed that BioWare plans on releasing Mass Effect 2 onto the Personal computer similar to how Mass Effect will be releasing to the Personal computer platform this Might saying that “you’ll see a Computer version not too far away.”
With the next-gen wars heating up and BioWare getting gobbled up by EA, we’re more than happy with an Xbox 360 timed exclusive release as a straight up exclusive 360 release was starting to look unlikely. We just hope BioWare stays on top of their game and doesn’t let multiple platform releases mess with their almost perfect formula.

High Moon, the developers behind the upcoming book-gone-movie-gone-game title, The Bourne Conspiracy, is on the ever-growing list of teams struggling with the Unreal Engine and PS3. Their VP, Paul O’Connor, spoke to Gamasutra about PS3 and how the Unreal Engine was working out for them on the platform. He admitted: “We needed a lot of support on Unreal to make it run on the PlayStation 3. We got caught in the same crunch as everybody else when [Epic] finalized Gears Of War, so that definitely slowed down the PS3 support at the time.”
It’s not all bad news, as he goes on to praise what the team has managed to do with the PS3 and states the game is about ready to go through the pipeline. High Moon had to use a lot of their own toolset, though, saying while the Unreal Engine 3 is a great toolset, for the PS3, they needed to bring out their own stuff as well. This problem has been plaguing many Unreal developers, and is at the root of a lawsuit brought on by Too Human developer, Silicon Knights.

As if Grand Theft Auto IV’s single player campaign wasn’t ambitious enough, the team at Rockstar is adding a comprehensive set of on the web multiplayer features that’ll sure keep gamers busy for months. PSM Spain got to play about half of GTA IV’s fifteen (!) multiplayer modes:
Hangmans NOOSE
Car Jack City
Bomb da Base
Bomb da Base II
Mafia Work
Team Mafia Work
Deathmatch
Team Deathmatch
Turf War
Cops N Crooks
Race
GTA Race
Deal Breaker
Free Mode
Car Jack City
There are an eclectic mix of modes: Hangman’s Noose appears to be an interesting co-op mission, Cops N Crooks is exactly what it sounds like, and more. With support for 16 players, this is certainly going to be interesting. Check out the scans at GTAForums.com.
[Thanks, Cory T.!]
