Dear moron,

Thank you for providing a snapshot of stupidity for the gaming public, something we can use as a visual representation of purest idiocy. Before, we could only use metaphors to describe the imbecilic way in which people align themselves with a particular games machine, but now we’ve you.

The last we ever saw of The Getaway on PlayStation 3 was way back in 2006, where Piccadilly Circus was shown off in impressive, supposedly real-time glory. Of course, that was two years ago, so you’d be forgiven for thinking the title was scrapped. You’d think wrong, however, as Sony has come out of the woodwork to confirm that the next Getaway sequel is still coming.

Screenplay writer Katie Ellwood has confirmed that the game is in development, and has promised that the PlayStation 3 will provide a more engaging experience than ever before.

Love them or hate them, there’s no denying that accomplishment points have become a big feather in the Xbox 360’s cap, as well as an extra selling point for its games. I won’t deny that the allure of accomplishments and a tiny pat on the back for performing mundane tasks is enough to make me find more value in a 360 game, and it seems that the PlayStation 3 is well aware of the issue. Resistance: Fall of Man included Skill Points, and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune followed the trend of offering an achievement-based system with trophies, and now the Blu-ray version of Dark Sector is set to have its own brand, called “entitlements.”

Amounting to 700 arbitrary points, these will provide PS3 fans with a mirror of the accomplishments in the 360 version and are a Dark Sector exclusive (i.e, other PS3 games won’t use entitlements). Of course, with no universal gamerscore to add to, I wonder if this will be viewed as anything of value, or if there are some extra benefits to winning these entitlements. Just what do they entitle you to?

A couple of us can’t wait to see some solid JRPG action heading to the PS3, and Sega’s Valkyria Chronicles appears to be the answer we’re looking for. This tactical RPG looks pretty and producer Akira Nishino certainly thinks we should all be playing it, but one thing he’s less enthusiastic about is the success of certain so-called “casual” games on another so-called “casual” system.

After a current article at Gamepro in which they compared current console titles against one another and pronounced the PS3 as the best of the bunch, Microsoft Marketing Director Albert Penello had a few choice words to state. Basically, he felt they were dead wrong, which I’m not sure I entirely disagree with. Here is a quote:

“We have to disagree with your conclusion that the trend of Xbox 360 versions of games being best is changing, especially when you look at the entire catalog of multiplatform titles available,” he wrote in a rebuttal.

“The cold, hard truth is that Xbox 360 has the best games - and industry reviewers and consumers agree.”

Having been recently sucked into the most resonant RPG I’ve played in ages on the 360, I can’t help but lean towards supporting Mr. Penello here, but numbers still show the Wii in the lead, with 360 second and PS3 third. I think the average gamer would likely name the 360 their favorite, while the casual gamer likely favors the Wii due to ease of play and easy titles. Of course, those very qualities are what make hardcore gamers squirm with hatred for the console, so it seems those features should be a double-edged sword.

Of course, I’d be more likely to cheer on my PS3 if I looked at its game library and saw the diversity that I crave when it comes to gaming. Where are my RPG titles, my indie gems, my quirky Katamaris? I still have great faith in the possibilities for the console, but for now my 360 come sout on top, considering that’s the console that gets turned on every day.

Does the PSN really need a commercial? Probably not. But it appears that someone has tried. A new (potentially un-used) commercial by Terry Hall and The Love Commercial Production Company highlights the community features of the Network in a mellow, artistic spot.

We’d like to make a note of David Hadju’s new book, The Ten-Cent Plague: The Great Comic-Book Scare and How It Changed America. It takes a look at how the federal government’s involvement in censoring comics damaged the comic book industry. There are quite a few parallels to draw from this and what video games have to face. Since this is a highlight of video game webcomics, we thought it’d be dually poignant.

Here are our picks for the week’s ideal game-related webcomics. Be sure to vote for your favorite! (Voting after the break)
