This week’s Rock Band downloadable content brings a pack of songs which I’ll surely never be able to complete on expert in anything but vocals. The “Earache Thrash Pack” brings three Earache Records recording artists to Rock Band to totally bug the crap out of your neighbors and frighten your cats:

At the Gates - “Blinded By Fear”
Evile - “Thrasher”
The Haunted - “D.O.A.”

All songs are of the original recordings and will cost $1.99 (or 160 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360) a piece. If you’re so inclined to save a few bucks, the entire “Earache Thrash Pack” can be picked up for $5.49 (or 540 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360).

Thanks to Xbox360Achievements.org and their never ending search for accomplishment news, we learn that Kane & Lynch: Dead Men will be getting five new accomplishments and an additional 250 Gamerscore. The only questions we have are when and how?

The five new achievements have been discovered via Xbox.com and are being hidden under the “Secret” accomplishments status, broken down into one 100GS, two 50GS and two 25GS accomplishments. We haven’t the foggiest idea to what new Kane & Lynch DLC would be or who would be overly enthusiastic about such content, but if it’s free or really cheap (80 Microsoft points?) we’d accept it with open arms. That stated, achievement addicts would accept a 250 Gamerscore boost to nearly any game no matter the circumstances.

Headed our way next Thursday, March 27th is yet another Grand Theft Auto IV teaser trailer titled “Good Lord, What Are You Doing?” and, really, do we’ve to hype it up? According to the official GTAIV website, the new trailer (also being referred to as “Everyone’s Rat”) will make its debut in a tiny over a week and maybe, just maybe we’ll be treated to some super secretive informative bits. Will the new trailer show off the recently revealed multiplayer? Will we be introduced to any new GTAIV features? Or will we get yet another character profile that we’ve seen so many times before? Yeah … it’ll probably be a character vid, but that’s still cool with us. New GTAIV media always equals good times.

[Thanks, Bill]

Looking back on this week in news, the Poll Police found an overwhelming number of people bringing their cards to the table and leaving their two cents when Microsoft spouted off about the irrelevance of Blu-ray and the life Digital Downloads would bring to the world. As was stated in the post, digital downloading is nice, but disc-based mediums like Blu-ray deliver full 1080p, uncompressed audio glory. As an officer of polling justice, the menus and extra features located on a single disc are nice (and why buying a disc is sometimes more exhilarating than downloading a series on the internet through less sincere methords). What do you, the people of PS3 Fanboy Town, think of this “future”?

Digital Downloading: coming sooner, or later?
As MS said, 12-18 months sounds right.
I don’t think we’ll see it for 2 years.
3 or more years, probably.
When MS unveils a new console, DD will be key.
It’s never going to match discs, so it won’t take off.
I don’t really care. I can get stuff free on the internet anytime.

We’ll leave our thoughts in the air until next week, since we do our share of downloading and purchasing. Time will tell what the future holds, as that’s just something we can’t avoid, but being able to predict what it will tell us is a fun diversion from the snail’s pace that truth seems to approach at. What about last week’s poll? Take the jump and find out.

If you’ve been itching for new maps to annihilate your friends on with the Orange Box’s multiplayer title, Team Fortress 2, you know it’s just a matter of time until you get your wish. What you don’t know is how much it’ll cost you. Neither does Valve. Kotaku contacted Valve’s VP of Marketing, Doug Lombardi, to see if their wish for free downloadable content was up to them, a result of Electronic Arts meddling, or something else. He said “The platform owner holds the final call.” Which means it’s up to Sony and Microsoft whether or not to offer the content for free. Anyone care to venture a guess?

Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 makes its worldwide debut this week. Wait, really? That one snuck up on us, especially considering it’s a sequel to a big hit of 2007. We would’ve thought there’d have been a tiny more coverage. Does that bode well for the title? No idea. This isn’t a review! Here’s the full release list:

US Games

EU Games

Asian Games

Not a bad week all around, really. Europe has relatively few releases, compared to the other two territories. Fear not, however, this will be rectified next week when Europeans get a Gran Turismo 5: Prologue and Everybody’s Golf World Tour double whammy. Condemned 2 finally gets its release this week in the US after its short delay. That’s why you’re seeing it hit the list for the second week in a row. We’re not insane, honest.

Your PS3 is region free, so go ahead and import anything in the above list. Release dates are constantly in a say of flux, so be sure to check with your local store before heading out.

If you had to boil down this month’s NPD numbers to one statement, it wouldn’t be about any particular system (despite how my headline reads). “Videogames are blowing up” would probably be the best summary. The industry as a total is up 34 percent, hitting $1.33 billion. Gamers laugh in the face of recessions!

Sony did it again, and Microsoft called it. Sony’s press release used the word “eclipse” when referring to its sales against Xbox 360’s. At first, I thought it was funny, and maybe too strong of a word. But, year-to-year sales have doubled, and they managed to move 280,800 systems to Microsoft’s 254,600. If you want to talk “eclipse,” check out the PlayStation 2’s numbers: 351,000 systems were sold in Feburary. That makes this oldie-but-goodie the next best selling system to the Wii (432,000)! Let’s not forget the PSP: February was a great month for the portable, with 243,100 systems sold.

Pirates hate ninjas. Ninjas hate pirates. It’s that easy. Why? Because the World wide web said so.

That right there’s reason enough for Flaming Lizard’s Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network title Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball to exist. But, it doesn’t matter why these groups hate each other, does it? We never asked why the skinny team hated the medium team in Nintendo’s Ice Hockey, did we? They just didn’t like each other, OK? Jesus …

Settling a feud with a game of dodgeball is as old as mankind itself. Anthropologists have reported findings that indicate that three versus three stone tossing battles were used to settle pterodactyl ownership disputes. Hell, just the other day I pegged my wife in the head with a rubber ball after she refused to heat up a plate of leftovers for me. She retaliated, and now I can’t feel my ears.

Dodgeball. It’s the great equalizer. This isn’t the first time Destructoid has had a chance to go hands-on with Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball, and it doesn’t appear there’s much new to report. The game looks great for a digital download title, and is relatively fun to play in group, and can ideal be described as “what you see is what you get.” The game is essentially in the can, so Flaming Lizard is simply waiting for the “OK” from the big dogs at Microsoft and Sony before the game sees release.

I was able to confirm that one new level will be available for download a few weeks after launch, followed by an entirely new level and a new team. While it doesn’t look like details on the DLC will be revealed prior to release, enjoy these new screens and start deciding now – whose side are you on? Pirates, ninjas, zombies, or robots?
