Alright, long video is long, but it does show quite a bit of sexy new footage from Sega’s Valkyria Chronicles. I had a chance to play this in Tokyo when it was called Valkyria of the Battlefield: Gallian Chronicles. It looks even superior in this video then it did back then, although it seems a bit less scribble-y for some reason.

Scribbles or not, the crazy combination of strategy RPG and real-time action has me hot for this PS3 title. Even though in Japanese, it gives us a opportunity to see gameplay in action. The video shows more details on the Battle of Live Tactical Zone system, or BLiTZ system, which lets you move about and fight to break up the command issuing sections. The story and several other gameplay systems are covered, but I’m really just in it for the pretty pictures.

Any of you that find your buttons pressed with the idea of moving watercolored anime art blended with strategy and action gameplay elements should definitely check this out. Let’s hope we hear a release date for Valkyria Chronicles soon.

Ah, the game that started it all. Well, it really didn’t; — that honor goes to NES titles Metal Gear and personal favorite, Snake’s Revenge. But the PlayStation’s Metal Gear Solid sold millions of duplicates and recieved heavy praise from the gaming community. Its popularity bumped the franchise up there with the other massive ones, and it helped Solid Snake became a gaming icon.

Snake is back for an encore on the Japanese PlayStation Network, according to Hexus. Famitsu states that the the 1998 stealth action title Metal Gear Solid will hit the PS3’s Network this Spring. It seems that Sony is warming us up for the June worldwide release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

Although not confirmed, I’d be willing to bet that US and EU version announcements will make their way out soon.

What about you? Are you willing to give MGS another run? I think it would be pretty great to pop this onto the PSP and play it on the go as a refresher.

ME driving like a pro in the halo2 map TURF. Note my skills!!! If your in Rumble pit or BTB these moves will help you escape death, and remember 1 sticky grenade doesn’t kill you at full sheild while driving a warthog. Also in double team if your team is in the lead just get in the warthog and drive around ,hide, then drive away when they find you until game over. Autho…

If you read this site religiously to the point of excluding all other media (and you should), the name Heavenly Sword might be unfamiliar to you. Perhaps there is a tiny voice in the back of your mind that tells you it’s related to the Playstation 3. The voice in your head is right (for once), as Heavenly Sword is one of the Playstation 3’s more well-known exclusive titles and received decent reviews last year. It comes as good news then that Ninja Theory — developers of Heavenly Sword — are developing a new title for both the 360 and PS3. Gamesindustry.biz has the scoop, in which Ninja Theory’s Nina Kristensen notes, “We’re certainly targeting a triple-A blockbuster, with two and a half years in production - a huge game that builds on our core strengths of story-telling, cinematics and combat.” Kristensen also says that Ninja Theory is considering creating a CG motion picture using the game’s engine that would be released as a compliment to the game.

No further details, such as a projected release date, have been revealed.

Ideal Buy is looking to make good with all the unfortunate souls who bought an HD DVD player or accessory (be it the 360 HD DVD player or another product) before the format was officially declared kaput on February 23, 2008. According to CNN, many consumers won’t even have to lift a finger to receive their gift cards as Best Buy is using Rewards Zone and service plan records as well as records from on the internet purchases to identify eligible customers. Those who don’t fall into those categories can bring a Ideal Buy receipt or credit card statement to their local store in order to receive their gift card. Best Buy will also begin accepting returns on all HD DVD players through their online trade-in center starting March 21, so long as said players are returned within 90 days of purchase. Returns will be refunded with store credit. Unfortunately, Ideal Purchase isn’t accepting returns on HD DVD discs.

A page on Xbox.com has popped out of nowhere to announce that both the Call of Duty 4 Game of the Year Edition and the (heretofore unnamed) Variety Map Pack will arrive on April 3, a mere two weeks away. The new map pack will be available for 800 MS Points and includes the maps Creek, Broadcast, Chinatown and Killhouse. Also, don’t forget that the game of the year edition of COD4 will include a token for a free download of the Variety Map Pack, so if you haven’t picked up COD4 yet, you’ll probably want to wait another two weeks.

Yesterday EA announced on their forums that they’ve dropped an update for NHL 08 that included an updated roster package and an online boost, upping the player count from 6 players (3v3) to 12 (6v6). While the on the web mode upgrade is much appreciated, to what’s probably the best simulation sports game of 2007, it would help if the mode worked properly.

The original Team Play mode (3v3) was plagued with connection issues and according to the official NHL 08 forums the March 18 update has brought those problems back with a vengeance. While we wait for the issues to be corrected, a list of roster changes can be found after the jump.

[Thanks, Murph]
