I was getting really excited about asking my esteemed colleague Chad Concelmo to focus on NBA Jam for one of his Memory Card articles. But then I realized that the greatness of those games couldn’t technically be summed up in a “moment” per se, so that went out the window. Oh, well.

Regardless, some of my favorite memories from those old-school arcade-style basketball titles came out of the ridiculous cheat codes in the games. I know I’m not alone when I fondly recall throwing down dunks with Bill Clinton and Al Gore…good times, good times.

It seems that 2K Sports knows to pay homage to their predecessors and have a little fun, even in a sim atmosphere. They’ve just put out a bunch of cheat codes for NBA 2K8, and while you can’t play with Benny the Bull, there’s some good stuff there. For example, entering “payrespect” will allow you to play with the old red, white, and blue ABA ball.

Hit the jump for the full list, which contains ten cheats. And for those (few) of you who own NBA 2K8, let us know what these codes do. I’m particularly curious about the “VC team” cheat. Let’s just hope it’s something harmless like “Virtual Console” or “Vince Carter” as opposed to, state, “Viet Cong”…

Last year when I had a opportunity to see a demo of Sega’s upcoming Iron Man game, I was told that the voice talent hadn’t been nailed down. This was surprising to hear considering the game is based on an upcoming film; surely the film’s talent would sign on to be part of this momentous event!

Like it’s a slow news day or something, I’m happy to report that the ESRB has finally got around to rating Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV. The verdict might surprise you!

According to the ESRB, Rockstar’s forthcoming PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sure-thing blockbuster contains intense violence, blood, strong language, strong sexual content, and partial nudity. Oh, and use of drugs and alcohol. Did anyone at the ESRB even have to see the game to determine this?

Grand Theft Auto IV hits shelves on April 29. Pre-order now to avoid disappointment and all that jazz.

While the question remains as to how long Harmonix and MTV Games will continue to support the current iteration of Rock Band, it’s evident that they’re committed to providing additional game content on a frequent basis. Prior to the game’s release, I was told — in so many words — that there would be no “f**king around” when it came to downloadable content, and there’s no question that they’ve delivered.

With weekly Rock Band content flooding the Xbox LIVE Marketplace and PlayStation Store, the amount of songs and available selection is swiftly becoming unmanageable, and Harmonix admits as much.

“We’ve been pushing the whole ‘Rock Band as a platform for music’ thing for a long time, and we love Xbox LIVE and the PlayStation Network,” Harmonix’s John Drake told me from their swank penthouse suite at this year’s GDC. “They’re great, and they’re really wonderful for [downloadable content]. We’ve got so much DLC that it’s beginning to become a bit ungainly with all of the stuff you have to sort through.”

It was then that he revealed to me the Rock Band Music Store, a menu-driven iTunes-inspired store-front that’ll be available from within the game. I’ve been salivating over it for close to a month, and now it’s finally becoming a reality — the Rock Band Music Store, along with other semi-significant software updates (for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360) will be coming this week.

Hit the jump for the full details.

Sony has announced today that an upcoming PlayStation 3 software update (v2.20, scheduled for late March) will add Blu-ray Profile 2.0 (or BD-LIVE) support. The update will also include support for copying photo and music playlists from the PS3 to the PlayStation Portable, and more.

Pour yourself a glass of wine, draw a bath, sprinkle some rose petals in there, a tiny sandalwood bath oil, grab Rendezvous with Rama … and that experience alone will be more exciting than the PSN offerings this week. There’s a Condemned 2 demo in there, that Motorstorm trailer, and the Rock Band DLC per usual, but that’s about it. Sorry, there’s also some Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08 courses we all know dad’s been dying to play. Maybe next week will be better?

Check out the complete list of this week’s content after the break. To feel Europe’s PAIN, head on over to PS3 Fanboy.

You see that Xbox? That’s a custom Mass Effect Xbox 360 Elite. There are six of them on the planet and we got one. Of course, we could have been greedy and kept it, but no. That’s not how we roll. We’re giving it away. Sure, there are other things going on this week — you can peruse them below — but we know what you want. Go forth and win.
