It looks like Harmonix wants to put the new Rock Band Music Store to the test next week, as they’ve announced the addition of six songs by the legendary rock group Boston. For those willing to pay, joining the Boston song that already appears on the retail disc (”Foreplay/Long Time”) will be: “Hitch a Ride,” “More Than a Feeling,” Peace of Mind,” “Rock & Roll Band,” “Smokin’,” and “Something About You.”

We’ve got more than a feeling that next week’s Rock Band DLC is bringing a six-pack of songs by Boston. All the tracks hail from the band’s self-titled debut album which has sold over 17 million copies. Not bad for a bunch of guys from the small Minnesota town of Lake Wobegon — no, they’re actually from Boston.
Boston pack (800 MS points / $9.99)
- Hitch a Ride (160 MS points/ $2)
- More Than a Feeling (160 MS points/ $2)
- Peace of Mind (160 MS Points / $2)
- Rock & Roll Band (160 MS Points / $2)
- Smokin’ (160 MS Points / $2)
- Something About You (160 MS Points / $2)
Videos for this week’s Rock Band DLC can be found after the break and this might be our last week doing them as audio previews are now available through the Rock Band music store patch available now. The Boston songs will be available next Tuesday and Thursday for Xbox 360 and PS3 respectively.

Here at Joystiq, we think Metanet’s sadistic platformer N+ is one of the best original games we’ve seen on Xbox Live Arcade for a while. So maybe it’s not too surprising that the game’s developers feel the same way. What is surprising is their willingness to diss the entire download service in public.
Speaking to Gamasutra, N+ creators Raigan Burns and Mare Sheppard railed against Xbox Live Arcade’s bloated catalog of copycat games. “The real problem, I think, is that the same people who are deciding what retail games get greenlit are deciding what Live Arcade games get greenlit,” Burns stated. “Those decisions that are ruining Live Arcade… it’s like, who greenlit Word Puzzle? Who greenlit that hoverboard game that’s just shit?” It wasn’t always like this, according to Burns. “When we started out … there were 30 games on Live Arcade. If N was one of them, it would stand out. Now there’s like a hundred games, and they’re all shit. … If I was a consumer, I could see not even looking at Live Arcade games anymore if I had downloaded 10 or 20 demos, because at a certain point, you’re like, ‘Whatever. Maybe there’s a good game in here.’”
The full interview contains more thoughts on the Xbox Live certification process, the effect of game demos on buzz, and the stupidity of charging for gamerpics and themes. A word of warning: Microsoft fanboys should take their heart medicine before clicking the read link.

With the current release of Rainbow Six Vegas 2, many gamers are discovering the wonders of the game’s multiplayer. Far fewer gamers were able to score the Best Buy Gun Code that was on the sticker of the game’s box at Ideal Buy stores. The sticker has a code on it (a button code, not a marketplace one) that unlocks a free gun in the game. The instructions for that code are as follows: Enter the follow button commands at the Main Menu of Rainbow Six Vegas 2: (Hold RB) Down, Down, Up, Up, X, B, X, B, Y, Up, Up, Y.
The second RSV2 freebie we got wind of was a map brought to us by Comcast. This is again unlockable from within the game and visiting the marketplace is not required. To access the Comcast Bonus Maps, select Extras from the game’s main menu. then select “Comcast Gift” and enter the code “Comcast Faster” when prompted to do so, and you should have access a map called “Comcast Event”

Remember back when Halo 3 launched and Microsoft sent reviewers and news outlets a massive duffel bag full of Halo 3 swag? Well those marketing folks at Microsoft are up to their old tricks again, stepping up the swag by an order of magnitude this time. The guys over at complex blog posted some photos of the package they received which includes a one-of-five-hundred custom painted Elite 360 and a case of peripherals, including a Vision Cam, a controller with ChatPad and a multi-media remote control.
It’s too bad that we didn’t get one, otherwise there would be another giant fanswag giveaway. Oh well, marvel at the pretty pictures and consider just how desperate Microsoft is to make GTA IV a massive hit that they’re willing to give away so much free stuff to the press. And, by the way, if you’re reading this and you’re from Microsoft ’s marketing department, hook us up next time could you?

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 players who played the original Rainbow Six Vegas have run into an achievement unlocking wall of annoyance. Simply put, the Private First Class achievement is broken.
You see, many gamers who fire up RSV2 and have previously played RSV are experiencing a problem where they cannot unlock the Private First Class achievement. The reason being that their initial rank is bumped up higher then private first class, because of RSV2 using RSV game saves to set the player’s rank. So, upon entering multiplayer, the players’ rank is greater than private first class and the achievement refuses to unlock. The lame! Some have found a way to work around this unlocking annoyance, but it’s time consuming, a hassle and is, well … also annoying. Ubisoft better release a title update swift and get RSV2 players their 10GS achievement. You don’t want to mess with Vegas players Ubi … you just don’t.

You might recall the coverage we had on the site regarding Nathaniel, a guy who had to send his autographed, artwork covered, Halo themed Xbox 360 into Microsoft, and who had it returned to him with only smudges remaining of the original ink. First Nathaniel got some love from Bungie, but now it seems that word has reached other parts of the tubes and Microsoft (finally) got wind of it. In their attempts to make it up to him, they sent a who box of goodies including a 360 console (signed by original Rooster Teeth signers, new artwork by Luke McKay, signatures from the Xbox 360 team, and additional signatures from Bungie Staff), a faceplate with Bill Gates’ signature (among others), all bunch of games, some smaller swag, and, wait for it … a signed picture of Bill Gates.
Disregarding that last thing, that’s a great package of lot to get from a major company. The original article lists some more of the details and history of the incident, and carries Nathaniel’s response, which we’ve reprinted here.
“While my story has come to what I am sure the average reader will conclude is a satisfactory close, I do not personally view this as its ultimate end. Don’t get me wrong: My overall mood about the packages I have received from Bungie and Microsoft is nothing short of ecstatic, but compensation was never my focus. The only thing I’ve specifically asked of Microsoft and the Xbox 360 team for is this particular case to be analyzed so that some change(s), whether small or broad, can be made to the service process to prevent the occurrence of any similar scenario. This remains my only request. I’m not asking for details, but if my story is leading to changes that should benefit current and future Xbox 360 owners, I would really like to know.”
The rest of Nathaniel’s statement can be found after the break.
