Confession time — I’ve only installed one user created mod designed to work with the PlayStation 3 version of Unreal Tournament III. Prior to its release, I was positive that the capability would yield some really interesting results on the console, and was pretty excited to check them out. Then life and work happened.
But these Unreal Tournament III character mods by community modder Organ are too ridiculous to ignore. Just check out Master Chief, for instance, who’s looking as good — if not better — than he does in Halo 3 on the Xbox 360. Organ has also created some pretty slick looking character models of Gears of Wars‘ Macrus Fenix and the Locust, in addition to Todd McFarlane’s Spawn and Final Fantasy’s Cloud. This is impressive work indeed, but it’s only a matter of time before the legal hounds are released on some of these puppies.
I haven’t had a chance to check them out on my system, but I think I’m going to take some time out of my schedule tonight. You can see more images here along with links for downloads. Unfortunately, they’re all available via Megaupload, and I was bombarded with messages about how there are hot singles in my area waiting for me to call them. My wife isn’t pleased.
[Thanks, Peter!]

[Update: It seems Sega magazine has removed the “press info” from it’s site. Be warned, the information contained within this post just shifted from official back to rumor]
Wow. Within less than 24 hours, we’ve rumors, a leak, a video, and now an Official Confirmation. It seems that Sega Europe noticed the internet exploding yesterday when all this happened, and decided to put an end to all the rumors by confirming the existence of the game and giving the news outlets a brief press release detailing the new entry in the franchise. And so far, with a single exception, things are looking good. The information released is as follows.
“Sonic the Hedgehog returns for a full-blown, action-packed adventure through the desolate and unpredictable World of Mubuz, a world dictated by an evil Dragon Lord, Immarius. Upon entering Muboz, Sonic fights an evil power which turns all the inhabitants into hazardous beasts.
- Become Wolf Sonic and fight enemies like never before using rapid combo maneuvers and Ring Energy
- Play as Sonic, Knuckles or Tails through 12 packed stages
- Extensive 2D gameplay brings the old Sonic back home”
Even with that limited amount of info at hand, we have the ability to say it is good to hear that there will be no extraneous characters. Now remember that the only reason we’ve this info is due to a leak, so it’s likely we won’t hear anything more about this until almost E3. And while we would have liked to have a more “old-fashioned” Sonic story (Robotnik should be bad guy #1) and don’t really care for Wolf Sonic, we’re willing to give it a try as long as it is blissfully free of anything like this.

As the story goes, one day while writing up some impressions of upcoming XBLA game Schizoid, I ended up coining the term “sploderific” to describe the game’s crazy incredible explosions. Don’t ask me why, but I figured “sploderific” ideal represented my feelings towards those wormy explosions. Long story short, Schizoid’s developers Torpex Games encountered my blog, agreed it was the perfect adjective and they ended up naming one of Schizoid’s accomplishments after my made up word. Crazy, huh?
After we were informed about the use of sploderific as an accomplishment, we were promised an exclusive first look at the achievement’s artwork since, you know, we helped name it. And this day, making good on their word and with their approval, Torpex sent us the finalized and 100% Dustin authorized Sploderific achievement artwork that’ll appear in final the build of Schizoid when the accomplishment is unlocked. What are you waiting for? Click towards the break to take in the greatness that is Sploderific’s super cool artwork …

With the leaking of the screens earlier, the world was given it’s first glimpse of the new Sonic title, Sonic Unleashed. Now that we’ve all seen the screens, and debated on various elements from the platform (it seems theres still hope that this will be coming to the 360) to the gameplay, and now, not even a scant twelve hours after the initial leak, we have a YouTube of the thing in motion. Surprisingly the footage shows that the game looks to have some real promise. That’s, as long as the level design is good and the camera is kept in order. While it was said when the franchise re-launched in 2006, it looks like this could be the return to form that the Sonic franchise has needed for years.
