Late last week, it was reported that Ubisoft had purchased the rights to the Tom Clancy brand for use in video games and related products such as books. In a follow-up article on Gamasutra, industry analyst Michael Pachter estimates that the Tom Clancy brand could have cost Ubisoft as much as €60 million ($94 million). Ubisoft, for their part, have not publicly said the buy price. The deal is especially lucrative for Ubisoft, as the company will no longer have to pay royalties for use of the Tom Clancy name (currently affixed to the Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six series, among other staples and upcoming franchises).

One last note from the bottom of the article: in addition to the Tom Clancy MMO, Ubisoft is also working on a crossover series which Ubisoft’s Yves Guillemot described as “similar in scope to Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros.” Whether or not this will stay strictly within the realm of Tom Clancy remains unclear. We hope not, because frankly we’d like to see Rayman and Sam Fisher fight to the death. Remember, Rayman has no neck to snap.

After playing inning upon inning of MLB 2K8 you’ve come to realize things just aren’t up to snuff. You can’t put your finger on it, but you know there’s something just off. Well friend, you’re spot on correct, because 2K has formally announced that they are working on a patch for MLB 2K8 to mend some of the game’s “issues”. Issues including frame-rate problems and bugs that pop up while playing as the San Diego Padres in franchise mode. No word to when the update will roll out, but hopefully it’ll be released before the baseball season comes to an end.

Hey everyone. Remember how the Xbox 360 version of Bully had all those problems? Remember how Rockstar soon delivered a patch to iron out all the bugs? Well, it looks like the patch didn’t quite work as advertised. In fact, if reports on the intertubes are to be believed, the patch actually made the game worse for some players. Specifically, there are reports of audio stuttering, which is something we’ve heard from our own readers, as well as graphical glitches and freezing issues. The question now is whether or not Rockstar plans to patch the patch.

On Thursday Marvel Entertainment, Inc. and SEGA of America, Inc. announced that the Iron Man video game, based on the upcoming comic book adaptation due out on May 2, will feature the voice talents of film stars Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man), Terence Howard (Lt. Col. James “Rhodey” Rhodes) and Shaun Toub (Yinsen).

Iron Man is the story of billionaire Tony Stark who, during a routine weapons test in the Middle East, is captured and forced to create the ultimate weapon for terrorists. Fearing for his life, Stark decides to create a suit or armor instead and uses it to twart the plans of the evil doers. Upon returning to his normal life Stark decides to upgrade his suit and use it to fight crime as the legendary Iron Man.

2008 seems to be the year of the aniticpated licensed game as the game based on Iron Man looks shockingly good along with our previous love for the upcoming Bourne title. The Iron Man game is set to hit stores day-and-date for pretty much any console around with the film later this year on Might 2.

Also, anyone else think it would be funny if the death animation of Iron Man in the game included his chest plate red ringing?

In actuality, the headline above should read “Raiden Fighter Aces demo hits any Xbox 360 with a Japanese Xbox Live account.” Unfortunately, that headline lacks pizazz, and we’re all about pizazz around here. At any rate, the point is that there’s a Raiden Fighters Aces demo up on Xbox Live Marketplace for those keen on finding it. The demo gives players a crack at all three Raiden titles in the compilation (Raiden Fighters, Raiden Fighters II, and Raiden Fighters Jet). It also settles the question of whether the title is a retail title or an XBLA release (hint: it’s retail). Now we’ve a new question: will gamers be willing to shell out retail price for a compilation of ten-year-old arcade games. Hopefully Raiden Fighters Aces will debut at a budget price.

The SEGA marketing folks just announced that a SEGA Superstars Tennis demo will be headed to the Xbox Live Marketplace in the near future, as soon as it passes Microsoft certification. Though, the demo may be end up being restricted to North American Live subscribers seeing that such restrictions have been implemented on the PSN Store where the demo has already been released. SEGA also felt the need to rub some salt in our scabbed over Bloodshot demo sore by mentioned that the Condemned 2: Bloodshot demo should be making an XBLM release soon’ish as well. To date, the Bloodshot demo has been “coming soon” for over two weeks. Anyone willing to bet that we don’t see either SEGA promised demo until mid-April?

Just over a month ago, it came to light that on the web movie rental behemoth Netflix was surveying its customers about the possibility of streaming movies to their Xbox 360s. Fast forward to March 2008 (i.e. now) and Netflix spokesman Steve Swasey has confirmed the existence of the survey and thrown a little more fuel onto the speculation fire. Specifically, Swasey didn’t confirm whether or not there’s a pending deal between Microsoft and Netflix to provide a movie streaming service, but he did say that the company wants consumers to obtain its movies “in as many ways as possible.”

While the Xbox Live Marketplace already offers individual motion picture rentals, a subscription service — presumably one in which users could watch as many movies as they could stomach for a flat monthly fee — would certainly be a welcome addition. Who knows, the Spring Update is right around the corner after all ….
