The legal implications of creating a Master Chief or Marcus Fenix Unreal Tournament 3 character mod (like the ones we posted about the other day) never crossed our minds, but it did cross the Gamerscore Blog’s mind and they went all the way to Microsoft’s legal team to get answers. But don’t worry, nobody is in trouble … yet.

Filed under knowledge that we never knew but are now glad we do, according to Microsoft’s legal team, their Microsoft Game Studios published characters and likenesses can be used for non-profit use as part of their Game Content Usage Rules that were first implemented for machinima. This allows fans to create mods like the UT3 Master Chief legally and also puts us under the impression that Microsoft’s legal team isn’t as … “evil” as we all think they are. Mad props to Microsoft for being so cool, mad props to Master Chief for being so bad ass and mad props to attorneys. Without them, where would we be?

Grabbing his book bag, laptop, some pencils, paper and a beer bong (just in case), our friend Ryu from Ninja Gaiden II is headed back to college. Forgoing any actual learning, Ryu and his Ninja Gaiden crew will be touring North America’s universities on a Ninja Gaiden II tour leading up to the game’s release on June 3rd. The campus tour will let students, gamers and any ninja fanboys (sorry, pirate fanboys are strictly prohibited) to be the first to experience Ninja Gaiden II prior to its release. The tour kicks off on March 31st at Georgia Tech and will wrap up in April, so be sure to make the jump to check the complete campus schedule and see if Ryu will be making a campus appearance near you.

Well it’s to be expected that when an IP becomes successful it begins to be exploited, but it sure seemed to happen fast with Bioshock. After the game’s release and subsequent success, rumors whirled about a sequel, and mobile rights were even purchased, but Take 2 appears to have even bigger plans for the new franchise. An entry on MTV Multiplayer details Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick, talking at the 2008 Smid Cap Conference giving an explanation for why Take 2 is turning down EA’s offer to purchase the company for $26 a share.

To do this he details the company’s past projects, present assets, and future potentials. That’s where the above image came from. We already know that the mobile rights have been sold, and there have been Bioshock motion picture rumors before too. Well it seems the MMO arena might be the next space targeted by Take 2 for 1950’s dystopian invasion. How about it readers, would you be interested in a Bioshock MMO?

Going down this weekend on Xbox Live is a Rainbow Six Vegas 2 High Stakes Weekend featuring a sweepstakes, Play & Win prizes, a PEC contest and some super entertaining Game with Developers funnery. And if the embedded “training video” that you see above hints at anything to come, then we’re in for some interesting yet enjoyable good times. The weekend-o-RSV2 fun kicks of tomorrow, March 28th and runs through Sunday, March 30th, so we advise preparing by entering the RSV2 sweepstakes and getting your Play & Win registration completed. Oh, you may also want to play some RSV2 before Saturday, because that’s when the Game with Developers kicks off. Good luck and be sure to show those Ubisoft Montreal “gamers” how it’s done. Huzzah!

Revealed via the weekly Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Soul Calibur IV has four more confirmed characters. Zasalamel, Cervantes and Amy are returning from the PS2-exclusive Soul Calibur III. The news of returning characters isn’t exactly surprise, however the look the new character, Angol Fear, is. With some rather, err, strange accessories the new character seems to wield a large sword, and is said to be inspired-by or connected-to the character Angol Mois. With these newest character reveals, Soul Calibur IV’s roster seems to be growing larger all the time, not to mention the exclusives of Yoda and Vader. Plus, if Namco-Bandai keeps the feature-set of the third game then IV will be the first chance for Xbox-exclusive gamers to get a look at series’ create-a-player mode. SCIV is set to release this summer.

Remember during GDC all that speak about a Ninja Gaiden II demo hitting the Marketplace which ended up being a video demo, ultimately leaving thousands of fanboys angry and/or depressed? Well, forget about that because that was the past and now we’re looking towards the future. Towards the month of Might to be exact. Why be so excited about Might? Well, according to Xbox.com, that’s when the real Ninja Gaiden II demo will hit the XBLM and when our fellow angry/depressed fanboys can quit being so angry/depressed. That’s unless “free demo” means something else entirely, in which case we apologize in advance for getting your hopes up twice in two months. But we’re more confident this time around. May 2008, Ninja Gaiden II demo slashes the XBLM … write it down and take that to the bank.

Appearing on the “Three Red Lights” podcast, Ross Erickson from Sierra Online gave the IGN Podcast a host of details regarding the company’s upcoming games. The biggest of the news is that Assault Heroes 2 is actually completed, and is on the road to an April release. The second-most significant news would also be XBLA related, and regards the near-completion of Lost Cities. Concerning Lost Cities, there is still no word about he price, but the rumblings are that it could hit at 400 points. Among the smaller tidbits of information from the interview, Sierra is looking at giving adventure games a return, they’re going to be publishing an award-winning XNA game, and as far as their number show, expansions tend to sell less than 50% of the originals.
