No surprises here, but I have to relay the information that THQ have revealed the first information on WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2009. This is the part where those of you who have nasty things to say about wrestling games go take a nap, because we get it — you don’t like them. Well, guess what? I do. So quiet down for a second.
As expected, WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 will feature wrestling, and will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Wii, Nintendo DS, and mobile devices this fall. Along with the expected roster updates this new iteration will be the first to feature downloadable content (Xbox 360 and PS3 only, presumably), a new emphasis on the tag-team experience, and a new “Create-A-Finisher” feature. The emphasis on tag-team ties right into the game’s new cooperative career mode, another first for the series.
The press release can be found after jump, and THQ have released some screenshots of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game to whet your appetites. I don’t mean to begin anything, but am I the only one who can see a significant visual difference between the 360 and PS3 screens? Ouch.

Zasalamel! State it out loud. I don’t care if you’re in your cubicle or reading this from your local Starbucks, I want you to shout “Zasalamel.” Isn’t that fun? See, you shouldn’t listen to me more often.
Having kind of slept through Soulcalibur III, I had nearly forgot about this guy. But now that Namco Bandai have released a fresh new set of screenshots with old baldy in them, my memory has been refreshed. I wonder how I could ever forget him and his fancy little scythe, the Kafziel. Also fun to state, by the way.
Along with Amy and Cervantes (also seen in these screenshots), Zasalamel will make his triumphant return when Soulcaibur IV ships for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this Summer.

The flash-animated, internet-cult phenomenon, known as Happy Tree Friends is getting it’s XBLA release (with a subtitle of False Alarm) next month. As an extremely violent intellectual property, every entry features blood, gore and violent deaths, and as such should fit right in with the 360 crowd. On the HTF website, there’s a confirmation from the staff that the game is set to go live on April 21, strange part is, (as you likely already know) XBLA games only release on Wednesdays. Now assuming that they’re simply unfamiliar with that pattern, then it’s likely that the game will see release the week of April 21 (its a Monday). Either way, the devs have gotten word that Happy Tree Friends: False Alarm is releasing soon, and from the looks of the rumors swirling, April should end up being a great month for XBLA.

Given that the first Double XP Weekend playlist was very popular and got cut short, it was a bit obvious that Bungie would be bringing back the Team SWAT goodness for this weekend. The fan-favorite Team SWAT playlist that saw so much play in Halo 2 isn’t in the “default” set of Halo 3 playlists, and in the Bungie Weekly What’s Update the issue of Team SWAT’s permanence was teased at a tiny, saying that : “As for SWAT’s long term future, don’t worry, this isn’t the last you’ll be seeing of it.”
So that’s vague but good.
The rest of the update concerns various Halo 3 current events, mainly the Heroic maps becoming free, and the upcoming MLG playlist. The fun stuff comes in the form of the new Blackout content, which consists of a mouse-over image of the map’s overhead view showing the weapon placement (almost identical), as well as another mouse-over image of the Lockout/Blackout sniper tower comparison, which we have handily converted to the animated GIF accompanying this post!

According to a post on Gamescore Blog and the message we got when we logged onto Live, Xbox Live and Xbox.com will be down for maintenance on April 1 from 2-5am PDT. Before you start making your “Spring Dash Update is Nigh!” signs, we’re being told this is a routine process that’ll go on in the early hours of the morning. In the meantime you should play the Battlefield: Bad Company beta or Halo 3 on the web or Call of Duty 4 multiplayer. Wait. Oh no! What will we do?!

Red team go! Bungie has announced that they will be reactivating Team SWAT for Double XP this weekend in Halo 3 social matchmaking after the original playlist was removed last week. Beginning at this day at 2PM PST and ending on at 2AM PST on Monday. In order to balance the playlists Team Hardcore has been removed to make way for the upcoming MLG playlist that is set to go live as soon as the Double XP weekend ends on Monday. Time to get tactical folks!
