What we’ve all come to know as Rock Band DLC announcement Friday is sorta taking a vacation this day with the announcement of no DLC announcement being announced. Hmxsean had to post the sad, sad details over on the official Rock Band forums telling everyone that “due circumstances beyond my control”, next Tuesday’s DLC won’t be announced until the afternoon of Monday, March 31st. The good news to come out of this delay is the fact that we have the ability to all dream, pray and hope that our own personal music favorites will make this week’s cut. Until Monday … keep rocking folks.

Today, at 5:00PM eastern (2:00PM pacific), Xbox Live Game with Fame gets a healthy coat of orange paint going Nickelodeon with two Nick stars gaming it up with fans. Roxy Hunter’s own Aria Wallace and Zoey 101’s Victoria Justice will be on Xbox Live playing Guitar Hero III and DDR: Universe 2 under the gamertags NickGWF1 and NickGWF2. So gather the children, gather the adults, shoot a few friend requests and show those Nickelodeon stars how brutal Xbox Live can really be. Do us proud.

Just as they did prior to Call of Duty 4’s release back in October, Activision and Gamestop are hosting a Call of Duty 4 Variety Map Pack preview event that’ll allow gamers to be the first to play the new Variety Map Pack DLC. The bad news is that only two events are being held in all of North America, one in New York and one in San Jose. But if you live in or around those cities, then make the jump to get all the details and head over to one of the two Gamestop events tonight to play the new DLC before its April 3rd release. Also, Gamestop will be handing out free goodies, holding a few giveaways and handing out Variety Map Pack redemption tokens to the first 100 attendees at each event. So, that alone might be worth the travel.

It’s strange. Games releasing on 360 with no demo, when there is in fact a demo waiting to go live, is getting more and more common nowadays. Having been released for a while now (and having been hugely delayed) Army of Two is now getting a demo on XBLM. On what will soon be the dev blog of the game, Assistant Producer Matt Turner revealed that April 1 (har!) will see the release of the Army of Two demo, and that players should look forward to their upcoming DLC. The Demo will contain the training tutorial and the game’s first level, and the DLC will have several components, a single multiplayer map, two new campaign maps, and a new mercs obstacle course called SSC Challenge. No price or release date was given for the DLC at this time, though with the coming-soon status of the EA Montreal dev blog, we have the ability to expect more news relatively swiftly.

On Sega of America’s forums, it seems that owners of the PlayStation 3 version of Condemned 2: Bloodshot are having problems with the sound playback of this new title.
If what forums users are saying is true, those gamers using a digital audio connection are having their gameplay disturbed by audio dropouts and “snaps” in the game’s first level. One forum member contacted Sega to complain of this and other gameplay problems. He received this reply from Sega support:
Thank you for writing. SEGA is aware of these issues and is actively investigating them. As the game is brand-new we’re obviously quite concerned to hear of problems, in particular the controller issues.
For now, for the audio issue, if you are using an HDMI cable that’s the likely cause of the audio problems. SEGA is investigating this as well, but in the meantime using a standard AV cable fixes the audio issues.
Ah, that’s a really crappy fix. Let’s hope that they get this patched some how. Going down from surround sound to stereo in a horror game is almost as bad as playing a music game in mono!
Are any of you suffering from this issue? Or are you playing the Xbox 360 version? After Nick’s review, I anticipate to hear plenty of “not at all” answers.

Each once and while, the U.S. Video Marketplace doesn’t offer up huge blockbuster movie rentals and, sadly, this is one of those weeks. That isn’t to say this week’s Video Marketplace Weekly isn’t full of movie fun, it’s just to say that the movies being offered aren’t all that spectacular. That said, our fellow fanboys who love them some funeral entertainment will be in rental bliss this week with the release of both Death at a Funeral and Four Weddings and a Funeral. Click towards the break to browse this week’s U.S. Video Marketplace movie rental additions and be sure to have a happy weekend of renting!

In the exact same manner as happened with Ikaruga not twenty-four hours ago, an eagle-eyed forums poster discovered that the Japanese xbox.com site has been updated with new XBLA release data. This time the game is Mr Driller Online, and from the looks of it the release date is much closer this time as well. The Japanese page details the games four modes,
- Multiplayer, Battle, 2-4 Players
- Multiplayer, Tag Battle, 3-4 Players
- Single Player, Standard Driller
- Single Player, Quest Driller, 100 puzzles
as well as having a host of game screenshots. Now as long as someone from Microsoft doesn’t take this info down for being posted early (like what happened with Ikaruga) and we’ll be golden. If the data is accurate (and hey, it is on an official site) then we have the ability to expect to be getting into some on the internet puzzler action by this time next week. Oh and the price appears to be 800pts.

In preparation for a baseball season that seems to span eleven of the twelve calendar months, Major League Baseball 2K8 is holding a bunch of Xbox Live festivities as part of their MLB 2K8 Opening Day Weekend.
Scheduled to bat-off (eh?) on April 4th and run through April 6th, baseball fans and not-so baseball fans will be able to register for a Play & Win (where oodles of Microsoft points can be won), download the already available MLB 2K8 demo and have a chance to play with the game’s creators during the April 4th Game With Developers. All the funnery kicks off next Friday, so file those cleats to mini-daggers and add some cork to your bat … MLB 2K8 Opening Day Weekend is near.

Microsoft has done it. They’ve cracked the barrier between children who game and their ill-informed parents. How you ask could they accomplish such a feat? Parental Street Cred is a new initiative from Microsoft to help parents understand the finer details of our social culture. The video above is just a small sample of the gems you’ll find when you visit the site.
While some of the videos are entertaining I don’t know how well parents will respond. For example, if we showed our parents these videos we may be accused of being on “the drugs.” One thing is certain, Microsoft is trying their hardest to pitch the console as a safe way to include entertainment into the home and with solid family features and a steadily dropping price point we think it’s an initiative worth jumping into.
Also, if the site teaches us gamers anything it’s that some verbiage gets old faster than internet memes. Check out the rest of the videos after the jump.
[Thanks, Nathan T.]

After hearing about the Metanet N+ developers going on a verbal Xbox Live Arcade assault, Capcom felt the need to semi-defend the service all while pointing fingers at an entirely different issue they’ve with the XBLA. Sorting of games.
Posted over on Capcom’s blog, Adam “TheBooya” Boyes isn’t happy with the Metanet crew and their “solution” to a less than stellar XBLA service. According to Boyes, restricting games probably isn’t the answer to everything and concurs that “tastes may vary, but there are many games out there for everyone.” Boyes continues to argue various points made by the Metanet crew, everything from how the XBLA isn’t like retail, how customers should research products before they buy and ultimately lands on the one problem he feels needs fixing: How you find the great games. “Instead of complaining that XBLA has hundreds of games that are ‘utter shit’ and advocating a no-limit release of a billion craptastic games, I think we need to work on lobbying a better system for sorting games.” And we think that pill is little more fair, more forward looking and a bit easier to swallow than Metanet’s.
