If, for some bizarre reason, you were looking forward to Prototype’s multiplayer features, then now is the time to retract pre-order plans and shake your fist in the air as if to futilely reprimand God for his sunken glory. The previously planned co-op component of Prototype has been scrapped, leaving it a game for loners only.
Radical’s Tim Bennison explained that the dev team felt they wouldn’t “be able to pull it off with the same level of quality and polish that we’re aiming for with the original single player story.”

TNA and WWE might be two totally separate wrestling entities, but they both happened to reveal the first screens and information about their respective videogames yesterday. THQ told us about WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009, and Midway did the same thing with the TNA game they’re developing, TNA iMPACT!.
Midway sent along a (really short) press release with two screenshots of the game; you can view them after the jump and below, respectively. There’s no word on whether they’re from the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 version. Either way, the screens look good — and I dare say, better than SvR 2009. Eight more images, along with a trailer and the game’s official forums, are available at the newly launched Web site, www.tnagame.com.
I stopped watching wrestling when I was in high school for one reason or another, so I haven’t really been keeping up with the times. The last time I was really into wrestling, the WWE was still the WWF. Man, I miss the Rock ‘N’ Sock Connection… However, my colleague Gameboi is a big fan of wrestling, so he knows what he’s speaking about when he says, “TNA is where the once great wrestlers go to die. Even I can’t watch it.” Hm. Perhaps the game will be superior than the real thing, then…
You’ll be able to beat the crap out of your friends in TNA iMPACT! this summer on the PS3, 360, Wii, and PS2.

At least one anonymous Dtoid editor has been hounding the local game store to no avail, since finding out that the Metal Gear Solid 4 pre-order DVDs have been seen (and obviously bought by the lucky ones) in the wild.
So far, all attempts to secure a copy for said editor has been met with sighs, laughter, and much rolling of eyes by those behind counter (or so I’m told), but “they” are still trying. For those that have suffered a mind wipe, Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2, as it is called, includes those beta access keys that many PS3 owners are clamoring for. Oh yeah… it also has a few trailers for the game, and some backstory of key characters –

There once was a time when exclusives played a large part in console sales, and while times have indeed changed, having the right games on your hardware can still make a difference. It’s public knowledge that Sony may have dragged their feet when it came time to wheeling and dealing with Rockstar, and they paid a pretty huge price for that mistake — Grand Theft Auto IV is now multiplatform. But the past is the past, and it can no longer be undone. That doesn’t mean, however, that you can’t downplay what the competition has to offer. According to SCEA’s VP of Product Marketing, Scott Steinberg, the episodic content offered to Xbox 360 owners is nothing to get worked up about:

Well, rather than a single big release, it looks as though the GTA IV achievements are going to get leaked in parts. First there was the reference-filled list of accomplishment names, now the guys over at xbox360achievements.org have gotten their hands on the point values and requirements for the list. A poster on their forums provided the list and so these descriptions and point values should be taken with a grain of salt. But really, you can look over the list for yourself and see whether or not the descriptions make sense with the names and values. Whatever the case may be, the accomplishments are spread rather wide and cover everything from mini-games and story progress to more arcade-esque survival challenges. As the release date of April 29th approaches, the hype for this thing just continues to grow and grow, and from a glance at the accomplishments it looks like this could actually live up it’s hype.
Full list with descriptions and point values after the break.
[Thanks James!]

GameTrailers.com recently posted a tease about the next installment of their formerly weekly show, GameTrailersTV. The tease hints at an exclusive look at The Force Unleashed as well as excursive announcements set to be revealed on (what else?) SpikeTV a week from tomorrow (April 6). With so many different sub-IP’s of Star Wars (see right) the supposed announcement could be all sorts of things. If it’s as huge as hinted it could be a whole new game, though with so many to choose from getting our hopes up for anything specific is just jumping the gun. Still, the Star Wars video games definitely need a fresh jolt of fun, and if this is a new game from one of the existing properties it would certainly fit with what Lucasarts has stated in the past about continuing franchises.

Those who are truly anticipating the further adventures of the now mustachioed, raisin-wrinkled Solid Snake have no doubt hesitantly slid a five-dollar bill across the counter of their nearest brick-and-mortar, trying not to meet the crisp, judgmental eyes of Abraham Lincoln as they fulfill the reservation fee for Metal Gear Solid 4. Well, at least your shame before The Great Emancipator wasn’t endured in vain — duplicates of Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2, complete with beta access keys for Metal Gear Online, are currently shipping to retailers to be distributed to loyal pre-orderers.
The DVD includes backstory on the major characters in the Metal Gear franchise, as well as a few trailers for MGS4, but the real treasure in this early bird bonus is the access code which will grant you to download the MGO beta on April 17, and play the fourquel’s on the web counterpart from April 21 until Might 5 — at which point bleary-eyed FOXHOUND fanatics will emerge from their houses to an unfamiliar world; one where cowbots don’t roam the streets, and neck-snapping is nearly universally frowned upon.

The X3F Army has spoken and they’ve come to the conclusion that they don’t know what to think about Prototype. On one hand the game is a perfect blend of realistic brutality coupled with Crackdown style gameplay (Or, Hulk: Ultimate Destruction which was made by the same team). On the other hand Prototype updates have been so mysterious and spread so thinly the game continuously falls off and on our radar. Sierra sent 8 new screenshots of the Radical Entertainment title that, much like previous shots, showcase the brutality and options gamers will have in combat. Looking more polished, and less grainy than previous screens, the game at least perks us up when we catch a new glimpse of it. With a solid team and (mostly) stellar back catalog behind the dev team, Prototype could be a sleeper hit when it releases later this year.

The guys over at 360sync were rather excited last night, having found a list of GTA IV accomplishments, but not quite in the way that they (or you, or us) would have liked. Seems that the only info right now comes from screenshots of the game’s achievement blade, which will tell us the names of the accomplishments, but not the stipulations or the point totals. So as small as that’s, we can at least have some real meat for speculation. The whole list is well worth perusing and is (of course) filled with connections and references to everything from Asassin’s Creed and Bioshock, to Rockstar’s own censorship troubles. You can find the full accomplishment list after the break, and the screens of the achievement blade in the gallery.
