With only so much time left in the day, we thought we’d fit in a handful of the gros amount of April Fools’ pranks found in the various MMOs today.

Speaking of WoW, our Azeroth-obsessed sister site converted to Hello Kitty Insider for a day of mass coverage (30+ posts!). Here’s what their front page looked like this day.

Harmonix released its own in-game gag today, announcing “Rock Band Kart 2008.” The Fools’ revelation was posted in Rock Band’s ‘Community’ section, accessible from the game’s main menu. We can’t help but read the “road” reference as a jab at recently unveiled Guitar Hero: On Tour, which severs the Harmonix-created series from its raison d’

Bungie’s resident mascot Mister Chief (no, not that one) has popped up on Bungie’s radar as a group effort from each single Europe, African and Asian Halo 3 player that banded together in Halo 3 multiplayer.

… Well, it was either that or some swift image manipulation job by the Bungie staffers themselves, putting a “constellation” of Mister Chief on the map. We opt to believe the first story because it’s infinitely more epic. Note that one little blip in South Africa, which was Joystiq’s own Ludwig Kietzmann’s contribution.

Valve announced this day that Ubisoft will be using the company’s Steam digital distribution service and plans to add over 40 other titles from its repertoire soon. Games currently available are jungle shooter Far Cry ($9) and sneaky-sneak stealth game Splinter Cell ($18); meanwhile, Assassin’s Creed can be pre-purchased for $50 before its April 9 launch, which will include four bonus missions very special to the Personal computer release.

In the coming weeks Ubisoft will add many more games from the Tom Clancy and Heroes of Might & Magic series. Valve states that the Ubisoft line-up on Steam will be the largest of any publisher using the service.

If you let your guard down and actually fell for Microsoft’s Xbox Live April Fools’ trickery, you should first know that you’re hella’ gullible. Which isn’t a bad thing, it’ll just lead to a lot of letdowns in life. The second thing you should know is that Microsoft posted a set of free (and presumably limited) April Fools’ gamer photos on the XBLM as an apology gift for their trickery. Now you can sport your 360 wireless helmet, Vintage Xbox or Recon Xbox pride. Just stay away from the scary clown gamer picture … it looks possessed.

The latest Too Human developer diary from Silicon Knights is something of … a departure. After a few minutes discussing the game’s RPG elements (hint: it’s like Diablo), the video veers far, far away from Too Human and instead offers an excerpt from a “documentary” entitled The Goblin Man of Norway. The excerpt discusses a mechanical humanoid “goblin” that was discovered in a glacier in Norway. The crux of the film is that the goblin is thousands of years old and yet it appears to be more technologically advanced than even modern technology.

The video also mentions the Norwegian Film Committee, whose website showcases the same excerpt (while two other excerpts are conveniently broken). We have to admit, the documentary took us in at first (it really is well done), but a swift bit of research reveals that the website for the Norwegian Film Committee is registered in Vancouver, British Columbia. That’s quite a long distance from Norway, even though not nearly as far from Silicon Knights’ home base in Ontario. Of course, the real clue comes from a quote from the film itself: “I want this to be true. I sure do, but let’s wait for some evidence.” Remove the context of the film and replace it with the development saga of Too Human, and the quote makes perfect sense.

Lord knows that Microsoft likes its viral campaigns. The only question now is whether or not this documentary will also come with an alternate reality game (ARG) similar to the Iris ARG that preceded Halo 3. Let’s hope so, because ARGs make for a fun way to avoid working.

Thanks to a nifty and well versed press release, this day we learn that this year’s Comic Con (which will go down April 18th through the 20th) will get an additional injection of video game content with Gears of War 2 taking center stage.

Scheduled to take the floor at this month’s New York Comic Con, Epic’s Michael Capps and GoW2 script writer Joshua Ortega will talk about Gears‘ origin, its success and give attendees a “glimpse into this year’s upcoming Gears of War 2“. Whether or not that means actual in-game GoW2 footage or just speaking bits, we aren’t sure. But our fingers are crossed in hopes that we get a GoW2 video tease come April 18th. We’re sure Capps won’t let us down.
