Flipping the script on their traditional Play & Win funnery, Xbox.com is hosting a a brand new achievement based Achieve & Win event for the release of the upcoming motion picture The Forbidden Kingdom. This new Achieve & Win take on Play & Win requires you to unlock one accomplishment, any achievement, in Devil May Cry 4 between April 11th and the 13th. Of course, you’ll have to register your gamertag first. Then, thousand of Microsoft points will be awarded to the a few randomly selected individuals who complete their accomplishment task. Achieve & Win sounds like good times and we hope to see more achievement specific tasks in the future.

A reminder to our fellow Rock Band owners who didn’t go all-in with a large box purchase or want to rock out free of those wired constraints. You should be seeing stand alone and absolutely wireless Rock Band Stratocaster guitars hitting retailers this week for an MSRP of around $69 $59. Cosmetically, the Stratocasters are identical to those included in the big box of Rock Band fun, just in a new wireless flavor. Remember, you can also pickup the drum kit as a stand alone peripheral at retailers for around $79.

Sierra announced this day that the upcoming book and film adaptation The Bourne Conspiracy will release on June 3 in North America. As discussed here before, the game features a mixture of hand-to-hand combat as well as run-and-gun action. We’re sure gamers are interested in trying out the game or, as As Sierra’s Al Simone puts it, “experience the dangerously exciting aura and frenetic pace inherent in the Bourne franchise.” We’ll see about that.
It’s worth noting that Bourne will be making his video game debut on the same day as Microsoft’s flagship action, (Game of the Year) Ninja Gaiden II. So, demon slaying super ninja or elbow cracking super spy? Decisions, decisions ….

The long-foreseen flood of GTA IV media has begun and soon there’s going to be no way to halt it. Gamestop is even getting into the action, partnering with Rockstar to produce a commercial seemingly designed to to get prospective players to associate GTA IV (and it’s collectors edition) with shopping at Gamestop. The commercial is a parody of common travel ads and features a fake celebrity giving a positive voice-over while a video with an ironically negative interpretation of his words is played behind it. The video does its job, showing off the whole vertical slice of the game and being just funny enough to remember. Except for those last seven or eight seconds, which we really just couldn’t be bothered to remember.

According to a commercial that has been running during the Sci-Fi Channel’s Battlestar Galactica TV series, the Xbox Live Arcade version of Battlestar Galactica will see a half price reduction this Saturday, April 5th. The game will be available for download for 400 Microsoft points, but only on April 5th. It’s what we in the business call a one day sale. We aren’t in the know regarding the Battlestar Galactica series or what large event is going down on Saturday to spur this discount, but we’ll play along. Grab it for 400 if you select.

Last week we reported an interesting development occurring across all of Ubisoft’s Tom Clancy branded websites. First, a flash overlay of a smoking dossier (or black box) appeared over the official Ghost Recon website that provided users with no functions or information. The next morning a menu appeared allowing site visitors to click into an alternate reality game called MACSAT7 Recovery which expanded the flash window and revealed five audio and video files in the early stages of decoding. Soon reports flew in that other overlays, with what appeared to be wreckage from a downed helicopter, began appearing on the official sites for Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six and the upcoming End War that all pointed to the original Ghost Recon site.
After carefully conducting mathematics we realized that each of the five files were counting down to the date and time they would be decrypted, and thus available to examine for information, but we also noticed an overall timer that was counting down to around noon on April 2. Moments ago the ARG came to an end and we were surprised to see a new countdown has emerged for 1:50PM EST.
Could this be the rumored Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 3, which is said to end the trilogy’s stay in Mexico, or the highly expected Firehawk? Only time will tell.

Word on the internets (news that was published yesterday and is promised not to be an April Fools’ joke) is that a new writer has taken on the Halo motion picture screenplay in hopes of cutting production costs and getting the project back on track.
According to the Latino Review, screenwriter Stuart Beattie (who penned the script for the upcoming G.I. Joe movie) took it upon himself to write a screenplay for the Halo motion picture, without Microsoft’s knowledge and in his spare time because he’s a huge fan of the franchise. The screenplay is stated to be called Halo: The Fall of Reach and is based on Eric Nylund’s novel of the same name. And unlike the official motion picture script that Microsoft had written with Master Chief playing a supporting role, Beattie’s focuses on Master Chief’s life and past. A script that only introduces the Covenant midway through, which would help cut down on the use of CGI and production costs thus making it more attractive to studios. If this turns out to be the real deal, hopefully Microsoft will at least take a look at the screenplay, maybe shop it around and make this darn Halo motion picture thing a reality. A more Master Chief focused movie that stays true to the novels and games is more up our alley anyway.

For a while now, we’ve known that Ninja Gaiden II is set to release to North American stores on June 3rd. But, ever since GDC when the Ninja Gaiden II information blowout occurred, our European chums have had to settle for a vague “June” release. Well, this day, all of Europe can pull out their calendars and Sharpies because UK GAME stores and Eurogamer have pegged Ninja Gaiden II’s Euro release date for Friday, June 6th. Now mark that down, get your pre-order on (if that’s how you roll), be prepared for the demo and wait ever so patiently. Because, as you are well aware, waiting is one skill all true ninjas must master.
