It’s not clear at the moment if this is one of those isolated cases of a momentary lapse of stock on Sony’s part, or if this is the beginnings of a greater pattern to come, but at least one person — a European NeoGAF poster — is claiming to be caught in console limbo while he waits for Sony to replace his failed 60GB PS3 which was sent in for fixes.

The story has it that after a month of hearing nothing from Sony regarding the repairs, he became concerned and contacted them for an update. The response on the other end might surprise you:

“Sorry we don’t have any stock of the 60GB left and we don’t know when a shipment will arrive to replace your unit. Call back in two to four weeks for an update”

Surprised by that answer? So are we. Hit up the jump, and get our take on things.

Look, I drink…

… and from time to time I watch Star Wars care about it is was the cure for my disease. So to say this translates over to my gaming habits is almost a no-brainer. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is a game that some of us Star Wars nerds here at Destructoid have been raving about for months, and now we know when we will get to play it. Here is a chunk of the press release, filtered for your pleasure.

San Francisco, Calif. – April 3, 2008 – LucasArts this day announced that its highly anticipated videogame Star Wars

The Community Team Coordinator for Sony’s European side of the PlayStation forums dropped the news this day about a PSN authentication update and some forum downtime that’s going to happen as a result of this. Read on:

Well, it’s about damn time. After all that (rather baseless) legal posturing, it’s official: Sega’s Sonic Team is hard at work — and has been for around three years — on a brand-new adventure featuring their most iconic character. In a press release sent out this morning (after the jump), Sega gave us an overview of Sonic Unleashed, which is being developed for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, and PlayStation 2.

The story, which you probably couldn’t care less about, isn’t anything groundbreaking: Dr. Eggman (*sigh* I miss the good ol’ days of Dr. Robotnik) has broken up the world into seven continents — wait, isn’t that already how it’s set up? Anyway, Sonic has to find the Chaos Emeralds and use their power to set everything right, blah-dee blah-dee blah. But there are a lot of promising details in spite of the banal plot.

There’s an intriguing mention of a day/night dichotomy being used as a gameplay device, as well as “seamless” transitions between 3D and “classic 2D” camera angles (yay!). But here’s the main selling point for me (I guess the Sonic Team saw Jim’s “How to save Sonic” piece):

Players will have an chance to engage in ways never before done with the Sonic franchise, so in addition to running at high speeds, which will be highlighted in four new speed mechanics, combat fighting now becomes possible. New combat, movement, functional abilities and platforming will be introduced to offer increased depth and variety.

I know I’m not the only one whose pants are tent—splooge! Seriously, that’s what I’ve always wanted to see in a new Sonic game. Though the trailer (viewable above) consists entirely of Sonic dashing through gorgeous levels, just the thought of platforming has got me titillated. Talking of the trailer, it’s quite different from the one that was originally leaked on YouTube. Okay, the first minute is nearly identical, but after that, this trailer — which presumably comprises gameplay footage — shows off a previously unseen water-themed level that brought European seaside cities to my mind.

Alright, Sonic Team, I am officially stoked for this game; don’t let me down. Sonic Unleashed is set for release this holiday season. For more information, check out the game’s official website at http://www.sega.com/sonicunleashed/. It has two more screenshots, along with the debut trailer and press release. Are you as excited as I am, folks?

Hamza gave us a proper introduction to Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X yesterday, via his fleshed out post underneath the trailer, so I’m not going to bore you with details that you already know. However, I am going to follow it up with a couple of purdy photos of jets, and all of us can marvel at them and pretend that we never saw the trailer and everything from this point on is entirely new.

Since we at Destructoid are firm believers in not letting beautiful assets and press releases go to waste (and we all tent at the mere mention of air combat), without further ado, we invite you to click on the gallery and read that release. Pretty please?

The guys over at G4 stopped by our inbox to share some Haze videos that are going to serve as the preface to their preview of the game on X-Play tonight. While taking the game through its rounds, the staff decided that this “looker” might interest a few of you. Since we concurred, here’s all three of them for your viewing pleasure. The one above takes place in the Salva Region, where your primary objective is to recover some of that good old performance-enhancing Nectar from a downed plane.

Just in case you weren’t already in the know, Nectar is some mighty powerful stuff, but comes with some prettty nasty side effects. Sounds like the videogame equivalent of steriods to me, but Ubisoft is betting that PS3 owners will be climbing over each other to secure copies of the game when it’s released in Might. After viewing these, you just might become part of that statistic yourselves.

More goodies, after the jump:

When the new content for Bejewe - er, we mean Puzzle Quest, was originally announced, it was simply a nameless, detail-less waif. Now it’s back with a player-created name and the full list of it’s contents. Submitted by A. Puchniarz of Pasadena, CA, the pack is to be known as Revenge of the Plague Lord. The DLC will contain four new classes: Bard, Rogue, Ranger and Warlock. As well as an expansion to the Southern Map that in itself contains over 25 quests, 50 spells, and 40 items, plus a host of new monsters, bosses and more. The story to the expansion has to do with “Antharg, the Lord of Plague and brother to the infamous Lord Bane.” But as of now, we have no idea when you’ll get to meet Antharg, as D3 was so excited about their DLC that they just couldn’t give us anything on the release other than “Spring 2008.”

There is no PSN update this week (or next, for that matter) due to the incoming PlayStation Store update. Today Sony added some new images to the PlayStation Blog of what the store will look like when it goes live, which can be found in the gallery below. For those who missed the announcement last week, the recently patched Warhawk is currently on sale until April 15 for $30.
