We heard things while we were at Rockstar Games last week playing Grand Theft Auto IV. Oh, we heard things. We just can’t speak about them. But fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld can. Maybe it’s because he’s largely considered one of the most influential fashion designers of the 20th Century, and he has more money than I do. Oh, and maybe it’s because he’s in the game.

The Xbox 360’s RROD has been the monkey on Microsoft’s back for the past couple of years, but according to some reports, Sony has been dealing with some similar problems with the PS3 as well. Complaints on Sony’s own forums show a small percentage of users being greeted with 80010514 errors, and finding out that their Blu-ray drives are no longer functioning. A quick search via the information superhighway seems to indicate that Sony has not released an official breakdown of the code, but that it veritably indicates an issue with the Blu-ray drive.

The developers of Battlefield: Bad Company have heard the outcry regarding the premium weaponry, both from Sarcastic Gamer and other outlets. Talking to IGN, DICE Senior Producer Karl-Magnus Troedsson said there would be no charge for the five guns. Here’s how you can get the guns:

  • Pay $10 for the Gold Edition of the game, have the guns on the disc
  • Buy the Standard Edition, hit the max rank level of 25
  • In both cases, “You have to do the marketing programs that we’re going to announce further ahead” (huh?) before you can get the guns.

The last bullet point up there confuses us. What are the marketing programs? Troedsson told IGN there would be five marketing programs from EA that are free and will reportedly be “as simple as signing up for a newsletter.” In other words, don’t expect the Gold Edition guns on launch day, but know that you can be at rank level 4 and still get access to them at some point.

A few weeks ago Electronic Arts released news that the exclusive weapons found in the special edition (the Gold Edition as it’s called) of Battlefield: Bad Company would be made available on the Xbox Live Marketplace for a fee. After sending the web into an expected uproar over the decision that resulted in angry comments from X3F readers, an internet boycott campaign and an analysis of the situation on our own X3F TV, it seems EA has changed their mind.

Earlier today in an interview with IGN, Senior Producer at DICE Karl-Magnus Troedsson spoke the words throngs of FPS fanboys have been waiting to hear. “No, there’s no charge for any of the guns in the game. All of the guns in the game can be achieved without purchasing them.”

But the story doesn’t end there. Jump in to find out what you’ll need to do to claim your weapons from EA when Battlefield: Bad Company hits this summer.

There’s a new trailer for upcoming Sega movie tie-in Iron Man. Rather than focus on the core of the game (you know, blowing stuff up, tossing missiles back at planes, that kind of thing), the trailer highlights the game’s story. That’s all well and good, but the character models, well, they could use a tiny work. There’s just something odd about seeing a rendering of Robert Downey Jr. that just isn’t quite right. The same goes for the other unfortunately wooden models shown in the trailer. Still, we’d say it’s safe to assume that the game’s storyline is window dressing at ideal. As long as the “blowing stuff up” part holds up its end of the bargain, the game should at least be worth renting before seeing the motion picture.

Bungie posted a brand new ViDoc showcasing the upcoming Legendary Map Pack. Shot in a style similar to Red vs Blue (hmmm, sounds familiar), the video has Bungie’s own map designers showing off each new map from within Halo 3 itself (one of them even gets a phone call — is that Torgo’s theme music?). The tour begins with Ghost Town, moves on to Avalanche, and finishes with Blackout. In addition to showing the maps, the Bungie folks also take time to show off some of the new Forge objects and the really spiffy Forge filters (we particularly like the grainy old-school film filter). One very cool addition is items that are specific to the maps, like shield doors in Avalanche that are designed to fit perfectly inside the map’s entrances. Blackout also features closed doors that can be inserted into the various open doors, thus creating new paths for gameplay. All in all, the new maps and features are potentially looking to add quite a bit to Halo 3. Check out the video and let your thoughts be known.

Well, thank God. In a recent interview with Official Nintendo Magazine (what, you don’t subscribe?), Sonic Team’s Yoshihisa Hashimoto noted that Sonic’s latest outing, Sonic Unleashed, “has no relation” to his previous next-gen effort Sonic the Hedgehog (or the Wii’s Sonic and the Secret Rings for that matter). For those of you who missed out on Sonic the Hedgehog, you should know that Sonic Unleashed having no relation to it is a very, very good thing. Giving us more reason to hope (and thus greater hopes to be dashed), Hashimoto says that Sonic Unleashed began as Sonic Adventure 3, adding that “this game will have more in common with the older Sonic Adventure series.” While many would argue that Sonic Team should look back even further for inspiration (oh sweet, sweet Sonic 3), it’s still a damned sight better than the 360 Sonic the Hedgehog.

So, potentially good news then. Dare we’ve the audacity to hope that Sonic Unleashed might actually be good?

A few days ago Capcom shot out these fresh screens of El Fuerte, one of the newest characters in the upcoming Street Fighter 4. Included in the screens, that guest star an unfortunate Zangief getting taken to town, are the Guide and Blanka environments which mighty pretty, in a heavy UDON ink kinda way. Some of the shots look interesting and while we’re optimistic for the fighter, we wonder how hardcore fans are taking the over-the-top antics of the characters (ie. Zangief’s expression in the above image.) Hardcore? Let us know what you think about these shots and your overall impression of the upcoming fourth installment.

SEGA just announced the voice talent behind the upcoming (and totally motion picture based ) game The Astonishing Hulk and, wouldn’t you know, the actors from the motion picture are playing their video game roles. Odd. Among those listed are stars like Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, Tim Roth, Tim Blake Nelson and William Hurt who will all lend their voices and physical likeness to The Astonishing Hulk video game. You can read the totally complete press release after the break. We also figured it would be rather humorous to point out the glaring typo that was present in the press release’s subject line that read “SEGA ANNOUNCES VOICE TALENT FOR THE INCREDIBLE HULKT VIDEO GAME AND RELEASES NEW SCREENSHOTS”. A mistake like that would make the “HULKT” green with anger.
