Not one to be outdone by the likes of Ideal Buy, Amazon is now offering a $50 credit to anyone who purchased an HD DVD player from the website before February 23, 2008. Strangely enough, the credit can be redeemed for up to 10 players by any one customer. Why in the world anyone would buy 10 HD DVD players, we’ll never know. Also, there are a few restrictions on the deal. The credit can’t be used on “special-order titles, e-books or downloadable e-content, wireless service plans, gift certificates, gift-wrap, taxes, or shipping and handling charges.” Still, it’s not a bad offer and it’s hard to argue with free money.
Find a copy of the email being distributed by Amazon after the break.

Blazing Lizard has announced that the XBLA release of Pirates vs Ninjas Dodgeball has been delayed. The reason for the delay is that Blazing Lizard is “adding more traditional rules dodgeball modes where teams stay only on their side and multiple dodgeballs are in play.” This is purely speculation, but it sounds like not everyone was happy with the free-form dodgeball rules that were originally crafted for the game. Just how long the game will be delayed is unclear, though the press release notes that the game will arrive “later this Spring.”
Blazing Lizard’s Chris Stockman told us earlier this year that Pirates vs Ninjas Dodgeball began as a traditional dodgeball game. So, hopefully the company already has some working code in place for the new modes and won’t keep us waiting too long. Blazing Lizard also released a handful of new screenshots (perhaps to dull the pain). Peruse them in the gallery below.

If you think you’re getting hyped for Grand Theft Auto IV, put yourself in my shoes. Last week, I had a opportunity to kick back and spend some time with Rockstar Games’ upcoming title, seeing some of the game’s new features first-hand. I’ve had a taste of the future of GTA. Unfortunately, they wouldn’t let me take it home, despite
So I’m doing the next ideal thing, which is going back and playing some of the older games. This might be all fine and dandy for those who haven’t played GTA IV yet. You can convince yourselves that the experience is similar enough that it can hold you over until April 29, when the latest installment of the series lands on shelves. But don’t be fooled — the experience of GTA IV is truly leaps and bounds above that of the previous games. You know what they state, “Once you play GTA IV, you might not be able to play the other games anymore.”
OK, so no one states that (and I’m sorry I just made you cringe). But it may just be true. This day I’ll take a look at the new ways that police and wanted levels work in GTA IV.

Earthworm Jim, MDK, Dark Alliance and Descent fanboys perk up your ears, because we have promising news for each franchise. Today, Interplay confirmed that all four of these franchises are prime targets for future sequels after their company recorded rather nice profits last year. We’d be fools if we thought we could speculate to how, when or in what form these franchises will receive the sequel treatment, though we hope that the Interplay gods give us Earthworm Jim on the Xbox 360. In retail form or XBLA form, we’d be satisfied getting Jim either way.

According to Epic’s Mark Rein, the juicy Gears of War 2 details that came straight from the pages of May’s Game Informer are only the tip of the GoW2 iceberg and only a “tidbit” of what the Gears sequel has to offer.
Commenting on the Game Informer article, Rein told videogaming247 that Epic “told the Game Informer guys just a tidbit about the game. We showed them some stuff, obviously, but we’re keeping a lot of information back that’ll make people go, ‘It’s even superior than this.’ As good as they state it is, and they really, really enjoy it, there’s still a lot of story to open up between now and when the game ships in November… I think people will really enjoy this game.”
So … can we officially start the GoW2 hype machine yet? Mr. Rein says there’s more juicy bits to come and our excitement level heading into E3 is at full alert. Ah heck with getting permission, the GoW2 hype machine is GO, GO, GO!

Yesterday, the massive news for our European fanboys was the announcement of Rock Band’s May 23rd release and the fact that it’ll cost a small fortune. A Rock Band fortune that equates to roughly $350+ in the U.S. We’re also fully aware that such a steep pricetag hasn’t been sitting well with most European gamers, but Harmonix wants you to know that they care. It’s just that they don’t really care about your wallet, because the value is there and they stand behind their pricing strategy. Other than that, they do care. Honest!
Speaking to Eurogamer, Harmonix design lead Rob Kay insisted that “we’re not trying to rip anybody off” yet agreed that “the combined price, if you add all that up and decide you want that full experience, is quite high.” Kay further went on to explain the value in Rock Band calling it “an entirely new thing. What other game comes with three peripherals that are all different? It just makes sense for the experience we’re trying to deliver” and blamed the higher European price on VAT taxes and overall distribution costs. All said, Kay ended his remarks by saying “that if people do [buy it] they’ll have an extraordinary experience they couldn’t get anywhere else.” Very true, but at a cost that could force some to take out a second mortgage to afford.

Ikaruga, the Japanese arcade shooter that a few of our fellow fanboys have been salivating over, is now available for download off of the Xbox Live Arcade for a cool 800 Microsoft points. That means that the Dreamcast diehards among us no longer have any reason to track down an elusive Japanese copy of the game. Ikaruga supports two player co-op locally or over Live, video replays and (of course) the oh so very special and completely color coded polarity gameplay that we’ve all come to embrace. Go ahead and give Ikaruga a download already. Your inner vertical scroller will appreciate it.

When Burnout Paradise originally launched the game’s community as a whole was rather divided, and many who decried the game hoped that Criterion would eventually patch in some sort of changed features. If you were one of those fanboys however, then you’ll be disappointed come the end of the month (April 24) and the release of the game’s next major AU. Game downloads have been given interesting names lately and Paradise continues the trend, handing their auto-update the completely unnecessary name of “Bogart.” The list of repairs and changes is long and we won’t list everything here, so you’ll have to head on over to Criterion’s dev blog.
- Enhanced 360 streaming performance stops instances where the game seems to pause for a second or so.
- Fixed Head-on Takedowns as these seemed generally unfair and unrealistic. Unfair low speed Takedowns have been removed.
- Increase the # of search results returned for on the internet games.
- Increase Picture Paradise timer so it doesn’t kick in so swiftly
- Fixed rich presence updating issues.
- Fixed some online race begin points which started all the players facing in the wrong direction
- Fixed a drifting and boosting bug. There wasn’t any real control on the brake so players would grind around the walls of the corners.
- And tons more.
