2K Games has announced that Mafia II, the sequel to the hit 1930s gangster simulator, will be heading to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Games For Windows platforms. Now hold on just a minute — didn’t we know that already? In any case, there are new screens to accompany this “announcement.”

First and foremost, 2K Czech gets points in my book for giving one of its characters an eyepatch. How badass is that? On a slightly more serious note, the buildings and cars are looking top-notch for sure, but why does everyone need to have such shiny skin?

Nitpicking aside, Mafia II looks to have some potential, so think about putting it on your radar.

I believe it was famed golf legend Happy Gilmore that once stated that “Golf requires goofy pants and a fat ass.” He’s right. Golf also requires skill, psychical capability, golf clubs and equipment, and outrageous fees to play. And you have to be outdoors! Oh, and let’s not forget that you’ll need a pair of those stupid looking shoes.

The ideal part about videogame golf is that you can forego the fees, sunlight, and silly clothing — though you just may get that fat ass from sitting on your sofa for too long. The Hot Shots Golf series has always been among the best as far as golf videogames goes, and the only thing this series has been missing is online competitive play. This time around, developer Clap Hanz offers up a PlayStation 3 version with the online play we’ve been waiting for, and throws in an all new swing system to boot. Is Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds worthy of the “Gold Jacket?” Or will it be a case of “better luck next year!”?

Last year’s launch of Flagship Studios’ Hellgate: London wasn’t exactly what we’d call a family album moment, its release plagued by client crashes and enough bugs to have the Orkin man calling for backup. Still, one person’s trash is another’s treasure, as Bill Roper and company have announced that in the two weeks since the Korean launch of the Hellgate beta more than a million accounts have been registered. According to Flagship, this makes the MMO the most successful online game launch in Korea in the past three years.

Hellgate’s beta officially kicked off in Korea on January 15, and according to Korean on the internet game tracking service Gametrics, the game swiftly found an audiences with gamers in Computer Cafes, ranking ninth among on the internet games, fifth among RPGs, and was the most popular beta being played. This was followed by a commercial release on February 22, a launch that Flagship boasts reached “record sales,” though it’s a record that we’re pretty sure will be broken soon enough.

The action figure manufacturing crew over at NECA recently posted a few final packaging photographs of their Gears of War action figures that are set for release sometime this month. You can view the glorious packaging pics of Marcus Fenix, Locust Drone, Locust Sniper and the controversial Augustus Cole in the gallery below. Yup, you have to agree, they are beautifully gory figures and the packaging is (dare we say) much better than that seen in the Halo 3 McFarlane figures. Much sleeker and figure specific.

Not phased by a competitive market or even a delay, Infogrames has high expectations for their eerie Alone in the Dark and is hoping to stuff their pockets full of cashola come its release.

Infogrames head honcho David Gardners told Reuters that they expect Alone in the Dark to sell two to three million duplicates, ultimately making it a profitable venture. “We want to halt losing money,” stated Gardners and that the “number one goal is to get a business plan together that gets us to a break-even level.” Which, we must admit, is quite the solid goal. Hopefully, Infogrames can release an enjoyable Alone in the Dark experience and somehow move a huge amount of duplicates through retail. Selling three million video games is no simple task.

Earlier this day, Activision announced that LEGO: Indiana Jones will be headed to European retailers on Friday, June 6th and (we’re guessing) to North America on the 3rd. And if that sounds familiar, it’s because we sort of already knew about the June 6th release when, earlier last month, UK GAME stores let slip the release via a promotional press release. But now we’ve the release date confirmed, straight from Acti’s mouth and nobody can argue it. And no arguing about four player co-op either, because we’ve already been informed that it’s 2 player co-op. Mmkay?

It’s been a while since we’ve heard any large Guitar Hero III news. The assault of Rock Band and its variety and scope of DLC shoved GHIII out of the limelight for many. Whether this new development is any sort of attempt to bring back the game’s popularity or not, we can’t help but think that this would do superior in Rock Band. Basically, Def Leppard is going to be releasing its new single “Nine Lives” via GHIII before any retail or online release. The song will be available in a three song pack that will be online for download April 24th in the US and May 8th in the UK. The other two songs in the pack include “Rock of Ages” and “Photograph”.
