After a recent article at Gamepro in which they compared current console titles against one another and pronounced the PS3 as the best of the bunch, Microsoft Marketing Director Albert Penello had a few choice words to state. Basically, he felt they were dead wrong, which I’m not sure I entirely disagree with. Here’s a quote:
“We have to disagree with your conclusion that the trend of Xbox 360 versions of games being ideal is changing, especially when you look at the entire catalog of multiplatform titles available,” he wrote in a rebuttal.
“The cold, hard truth is that Xbox 360 has the ideal games - and industry reviewers and consumers agree.”
Having been recently sucked into the most resonant RPG I’ve played in ages on the 360, I can’t help but lean towards supporting Mr. Penello here, but numbers still show the Wii in the lead, with 360 second and PS3 third. I think the average gamer would likely name the 360 their favorite, while the casual gamer likely favors the Wii due to ease of play and easy titles. Of course, those very qualities are what make hardcore gamers squirm with hatred for the console, so it seems those features should be a double-edged sword.
Of course, I’d be more likely to cheer on my PS3 if I looked at its game library and saw the diversity that I crave when it comes to gaming. Where are my RPG titles, my indie gems, my quirky Katamaris? I still have great faith in the possibilities for the console, but for now my 360 come sout on top, considering that’s the console that gets turned on each day.

Ben Heck has done it again! Ben as you may know is a master at taking videogame consoles and transforming them into portable devices. He’s taken Super Nintendos, N64s, PS1s, and a whole mess of others and turned them into portable and awesome looking machines. Some of his more recent mods have involved taking the Wii and the Xbox 360 and turning them into laptops.
Ben revealed his PlayStation 3 laptop this past week and has finished the current generation laptop mods. The PlayStation 3 laptop was commissioned by the crew at Engadget and will actually be going up for charity auction very soon. The project took about 14 months on and off making this Ben’s longest project to date. As for the specs:
- Original backwards compatible 60GB model
- 17-inch LCD HDTV screen: 720p
- HDMI-DVI connection (same as last Xbox 360 laptop)
- Built-in keyboard, USB ports, stereo speakers, headphone jack
- Size: 17 x 13.75 x 3-inches
- Weight: 16 pounds!
Video of the PS3p in action and more pictures can be seen over on Engadget. What do you think of it? I’m still waiting for the mod where I have the ability to inject videogames straight through my nose. LIKE COCAINE!

When rockers Def Leppard ran their mouths on Rockline about having three songs in Guitar Hero IV, perhaps they were a bit confused. What they meant to say was “Three of our songs will be available as downloadable content for Guitar Hero III,” but since the aging rockers probably have no idea what that means, figured it was an entirely new game.
It’s now been revealed that a three-song Def Leppard pack for Guitar Hero III will be available for download on April 24 in the United Says, and May 8 in the United Kingdom. The pack will feature the band’s new single “Nine Lives” (which, quite randomly, features country singer Tim McGraw) before it hits retail and on the web. The pack will also feature two Def Leppard classics, “Rock of Ages” and “Photograph.” (These are the real reasons you’ll want to shell out the dough.) There is currently no word on pricing, but we assume it will be in line with previous Guitar Hero III DLC packs.
This is the first time any band has used videogame downloadable content as a way to getting their new music out first. Harmonix had hinted at this in the past, even insinuating that new Metallica material might appear as DLC before it was available elsewhere. This has yet to come to pass, and now Guitar Hero III has Def Leppard and Journey. The rock is strong with Activision, indeed.

Here it is, the GameTrailers Television exclusive world premiere trailer for Insomniac’s Resistance 2. As with most teaser trailers, it doesn’t give too much away, but it gives you a good idea of where Insomniac are going with the game. Big environments, big battles, things exploding. You get the idea.
Those clamoring for actual gameplay footage are going to have to wait — GameTrailers Television is promising a world premiere exclusive on June 13. That happens to land right on the final day of this year’s E3 Business and Media Summit. Think that means we’ll get our first hands-on of the game in just a few short months? We certainly hope so. GameTrailer TV’s Jeremy Hoffman has decided to be a total jerk and call me out, reminding me that E3 is in July, not June. He’s right. As always. Jerk. But we hope (and believe) we’ll see more Resistance 2 at E3 in July.
What do you guys think of the trailer? Does it look as good as you expect, or even superior?

The Destructoid team has been hard at work, keeping Metal Gear fans abreast of any breaking information we can get our hands on, leading up to the June 12th release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to get Kojima to spill all of the beans yet, but we believe he’ll break in time. Glaring robot eyes can be quite menacing.
However, what we can do is

Information extracted from a GameStop mailer brings details about Fallout 3’s Collector’s Edition and what fans will receive for their extra $20. Yup, $20 extra for this Collector’s Edition, but we have to say that it does include some pretty nifty items. Fallout 3 Collector’s Edition items including a Vault Boy bobblehead (w00t!), a 100 page hardcover art book and a making-of DVD all carefully placed in a Vault-tec lunch box that’s stated to withstand radiation. Though, we’re not sure how we have the ability to test that. We have a feeling only the diehard Fallout fanboys will be willing to pay an extra $20 for this beefier edition, but that said, we know we’d love to own a Vault Boy bobblehead. He’d be our “yes man”.

First, some rumor clarification. Happy Tree Friends: False Alarm for the XBLA was set to release the second week of April only to be pushed back a week to April 21st (Monday release?) Now, maybe, possibly, we aren’t exactly positive that the title has been delayed yet another time.
Our confusion stems from a “Latest News” post over on the official website for Happy Tree Friends which mentions that “due to the expansion of the game launch to Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea, the ‘False Alarm’ game will now push back to a later date.” That’s pretty cut and dry if it weren’t for the fact that the the news post doesn’t have a time stamp or any reference to when it was published. So, this delay news could be weeks old and refer back to the original delay from the second week of April to April 21st, or it’s a brand new delay that pushes False Alarm back even further. Hence the mildly confusing “rumor” tag. Get it? Okay, good …

One of the most anticipated sequels of the year is Bethesda Softworks’ first foray into the Fallout series with Fallout 3. The role-playing adventure has been compared to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, except in the future … and if that future blew up a few times. Our pimp-daddy site, Joystiq, recently put their impressions of the game on the web along with three new screens that show off the post apocalyptic wonderland. Check our their impressions and peep the new screens in our existing Fallout 3 gallery.
