College football season may be long gone, but you die-hard fans have surely been following all of Destructoid’s coverage of NCAA Football 09 (pun definitely intended). So far, EA Sports has only unveiled the box art for the Xbox 360 and Wii versions of the game, though the PS3 cover will be revealed a week from today.

Now, we’ve got some video of NCAA Football 09 in action for the first time, in the form of a minute-and-thirty-eight-second debut trailer (see above). It’s obviously showing off the PS3/360 versions of the game. The trailer flies through the game’s feature set at breakneck speed; you’ll see a good amount of gameplay footage, as well as menu screens and the like. I don’t really follow college sports, but I must say, this game is looking pretty good. Hell, if EA adds Mascot Games to all their sports titles, I’ll be much more apt to pick them up.

NCAA Football 09 will hit stores in July for the PS3, 360, Wii, PS2, and PSP.

I am a fan of Grand Theft Auto. I’m a HUGE fan of Ricky Gervais. Put the two together and what do you get? Pure, unbridled happiness, my friends. The politically incorrect comic will be appearing in GTA IV, sharing both his voice, and his motion capture work!

Gervais will be found in the Liberty City comedy club, where he’ll not only be performing material from his current Fame tour (great show, get the DVD folks!), but three minutes of brand new stuff just for the game. Isn’t that awesome? I think that’s awesome. You should too.

“It’s a first, which always interests me,” stated Gervais. “It was shot in New York, and I got to wear a tight Lycra suit as part of the digital process. That wasn’t so good. Unfortunately they captured the whole horror, except I look slightly tougher.

“It’s seriously a massive deal though. Games have outsold Hollywood for the past few years so it’s nice to be a small part of that.”

I didn’t think I could be more eager to play GTA IV, but Rockstar has found a way to make this game even more of a neccessity. Well done, Rockstar. Well done indeed.

EA isn’t stupid. Far from it, in fact. Their first good idea was to bundle NFL Head Coach 09 with the 20th Anniversary Collector’s Edition of Madden NFL 09, since the coaching sim probably wouldn’t sell all that well by itself. Their second smart move was to give a hot girl, Amy, plenty of face time in the first videos advertising the game. Check out the rest of the videos at GameTrailers, and you’ll see some gems in the comments, like “I’d like to head that coach!” and “I only clicked this for the chick”.

In addition to the videos, EA sent over a brand-new batch of screenshots, and they’re looking pretty good. In fact, they look noticeably superior (at least in terms of aliasing, or lack thereof) than the first images we saw, which I’ve also attached below for comparison purposes. Specifically, check out the New York Giants’ training complex to see what I’m talking about.

You can see the press release for these new screenshots and videos after the jump; it includes details on a number of the game’s features. NFL Head Coach 09 will be out on August 12th as a part of the Madden NFL 09 20th Anniversary Collector’s Edition.

If I weren’t already planning on getting the new game, this ad would have pushed me over the edge. The new Grand Theft Auto IV ad for the UK shows Niko walking throughout Liberty City with various activities taking place behind him. He goes through a bowling alley, park, prison, and the streets as we see people living out their lives and chaos in the streets.

Everything about this ad is truly the Cougar’s Taint. The style, the music, and all the new stuff we see. We also see that Niko actually smashes vehicle windows out and hot-wires the automobiles, adding to the realism of the game. No more opening an unlocked automobile door and driving away like magic.

There are more than a few people who feel that Sony and the PS3 are going to have a big year in 2008, and Peter Dille, Senior VP of Marketing & PLAYSTATION Network, is obviously one of them. In a post yesterday on the PlayStation.Blog, he outlined all the things that Sony has in store for the PSN this year. He first talked about the revamped PlayStation Store (and his personal dissatisfaction with its previous interface), though he stated it’s “the first step but it’s only one example” of what Sony will be bringing to the PSN in 08.

Here’s some of the exciting stuff he discussed. He mentioned four “key pillars” that will make the PSN a success: “The PlayStation community”; “Free online gaming”; “Digital media download services”; and “Original content”. That gives me solid reason to believe that Sony will always keep the PSN free. Then he moved on to the games (“fewer arcade remakes and more original content” — a subtle jab at Xbox Live, methinks): stuff like SOCOM Confrontation, flOwer (from the makers of flOw, natch), and echochrome.

Next up was the rumored North American PSN video service. Dille had no updates on it, but noted that “it’s already been confirmed that we’ll be offering a video service for PS3 in a way that separates the service from others you’ve seen or used.” Apparently, we’ll be hearing about this “very soon”, and it’ll deliver “TV, movies and gaming content.” His next paragraph was community-oriented, speaking about in-game XMB access and “other community-related services”.

Lastly, Dille delivered another bit of good news: Sony will finally be bringing PlayStation Cards to the American market. He said, “we are rolling out the PlayStation Cards to retailers nationwide as we talk.” The long-awaited cards — we first heard of them way back in mid-December — will be available in denominations of $20 and $50. All these updates have got me really psyched (yes, that’s how it’s spelled — not “siked”) for the future of the PS3 and PSN…what about you guys?

So I’ve been sitting here with headphones on, this creepy countdown Web site playing noises in my web browser, and it’s making me uncomfortable. So I’d like to thank the countless readers for sending it in to us and completely ruining my morning.

Prototype, the rather exciting-looking smash & suck-’em-up from Sierra, is going to get its own promotional comic by way of DC. DC Comics will be publishing a whole series based on the adventures of hoodie-loving mutant Alex Mercer.

Sierra didn’t send us any other details, which makes my job frustratingly difficult, as our press release merely states that more details on the comic will be announced later this year. Now that hardly makes this paragraph worth me hitting the “enter” key for, mate. I swear, these game companies never think of the poor bloggers.

Rockstar’s Web site for the forthcoming “Rockstar Social Club” has been updated to indicate that pre-registration will begin this Thursday, April 17.

The only social club I’ve ever wanted to be a part of was the Timex Social Club. The seven man 1980s rap group might have only had one hit single — 1986’s “Rumors” — but boy, was it a good one.

But this Rockstar Social Club to coincide with the release of Grand Theft Auto IV intrigues me. On the internet leaderboards (for single and multiplayer), a virtual police blotter, wine, cheese … what doesn’t this social club have? Well, the answer is a catchy single like “Rumors,” of course. But that’s not going to halt me from signing up later in the week … or from asking our readers to come up with a catchy pop single for the Rockstar Social Club.

As previously reported, Criterion Games will be delivering a significant update to Burnout Paradise, in what they’re calling “Codename: Bogart,” or “the Cagney update.” Today, the team has revealed three new online gameplay modes that’ll be added when the update hits next week.

The first is online “Stunt Run,” an 8-player competition where players compete for the highest score within a two minute time limit. An 8-player team event, “Online Road Rage,” will also be added; in this mode, one team of “runners” attempts to reach checkpoints, with the other team attempting to take them down. Finally, “Marked Man” makes its way to the on the web space — in 90 second intervals, one player is chosen as the marked man, ith other players attempting to take him/her down.

Yes, Ubisoft will finally be releasing their first-person shooter Haze for the PlayStation 3 on May 20. Like you, we’re crossing our fingers that there will be no more delays.
