On April 25th the Madden curse will claim another victim when EA announces the football star who’ll grace Madden NFL 09’s cover. And to prepare for the glorious announcement, Xbox.com is hosting a semi-scientific poll asking Madden fans which year had the ideal Madden cover athlete. You can check out all the athletes (and John Madden too) after the jump, gawk at the Madden cover victims, select a favorite, then jump over to the forums to vote. Currently, Mr. Madden himself is leading the pack, but Ray Lewis (and his legally questionable past) is a very close second. Heck, while we’re at it, tell us who you think deserves should be subjected to the 2009 Madden curse. We’re up for seeing Vick a second time around. He deserves the curse times two.

Team Joystiq posted the full Gears of War 2 Comic Con panel discussion featuring Epic’s Michael Capps and GoW2 writer Joshua Ortega where we get superior insight into what will make Gears 2 bigger, bloodier and badder then the first. Though, know going in that Capps and company don’t drop any bombshell announcements or feature reveals, but he does talk about some juicy Gears stuff. And any Gears speak is good speak, right?
There’s a bunch of things discussed (Joystiq has a beautiful recap of each last word that came from Capps’ mouth), but we came across a few things that caught our eye. First off, Gears 2 will have “living cover” in the form of giant, wiggly Locust worms. Capps and his team brainstormed the idea of traditional cover and wanted to take it into a more living realm. We guess giant worms fit the bill. The other topic that stood out to us was speak about Dom and the game’s emotional storyline. We’ve been told time and time again that Gears 2 will have a richer, deeper story this time around and now we know Dom and his long lost “hot chick” love Maria will be a massive part of it. So, you can bet love will be in the air.
Watch the video, make the jump and hear what team Epic has to state about graphics, downloadable content, the Cole stereotype and what’s going on with the Gears of War movie. November can’t get here soon enough!

This day Rockstar Games announced the North American and European release dates for the next-gen debut of the Midnight Club series. Midnight Club: Los Angeles will hit on September 9 and 12 for North America and Europe respectfully. Using Rockstar’s RAGE engine, first featured in Rockstar Presents Table Tennis, the San Diego team has beautifully crafted Los Angeles in a day-and-night cycle complete with dynamic weather effects. Midnight Club: Los Angeles will also follow in Grand Theft Auto IV’s lead, utilizing features from the newly established Rockstar Games Social Club.
For those who have yet to see the GDC trailer we’ve embedded it after the jump.

Wow. It’s real. We mean, really real. Sure, for months we’ve been reading, writing and thinking of nothing but Grand Theft Auto IV but it’s only hitting us now that the title is only a few days away. Thanks to a user on the GTAForums we have confirmation that the title is hitting retailers, presumably to prepare for launch events. The special edition above comes in an over-sized box that includes the game, lock box, soundtrack and duffel bag. With only seven days standing between you and virtual carjacking bliss we ask, are you ready?
[Thanks, Jason]

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is set for release in June, but as most of you know it isn’t the next true installment, it’s an expansion upon GHIII so to speak. But that’s where Guitar Hero IV comes in, the next true stand alone sequel and word from Activision is that it’ll be a lot more like Rock Band. Oh joy!
Speaking to Conde Nast Portfolio magazine, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick mentioned that Guitar Hero IV will “include a lot of other instruments” including a microphone for vocals. Hence the Rock Band comparison. Kotick also mentioned that GHIV will be the “first game we’ve had in which we can use local content and local bands”, possibly allowing them to release local band DLC to choose markets.
So, there you’ve it. Guitar Hero IV (not the Aerosmith edition, that’s something entirely separate) will feature additional instruments and local content while still retaining the Guitar Hero name. Maybe, to clear up any confusion, they’ll drop the “IV” and simply go with Guitar Hero: Rock Band Edition … eh?

The day has finally arrived where, for the first time ever, Rock Band receives complete album downloadable content as Judas Priest’s “Screaming for Vengeance” makes its way onto the XBLM. The Judas Priest DLC is comprised of nine master tracks from the “Screaming for Vengeance” album, all of which can be bought individually from the Marketplace for 160 Microsoft points or as an album for 1200 points. As always, we broke down and posted a list of all of today’s Priestly Rock Band DLC after the break, so be sure to check that out. Oh, and did we mention Rock Band officially has complete album downloads now? Because it does. Suh-weet!

We’re going to have to come clean and state we know virtually nothing about NBA Ballers: Chosen One. Since November of last year, we’ve had an announcement, some screens, and that’s about it. It hasn’t made a splash on Metacritic just yet with the only review thus far coming from GamePro (the magazine gives it 60% according to Metacritic). Still, previous entries in the series have done fairly well, so here’s hoping Chosen One can keep up. Whether basketball is your thing or not, you should know that it’s your only choice this week. Maybe something more interesting will show up next week.

Huge news comes from Realtime Worlds this day with word that they’re putting their recently acquired $50 million to work, acquiring the global distribution rights to their upcoming MMO All Points Bulletin.
GamesIndustry.biz is reporting that Realtime Worlds bought the APB distribution rights back from Webzen to “ensure that gamers around the globe experience the revolutionary gameplay we envisioned when we first began creating the property.” We aren’t sure exactly what their global release plans entail or how much they had to put up for the rights, but we’re sure they didn’t come cheap. Lesson learned children. When sleeping with Webzen and things turn sour, know that you’ll have to purchase your way out of the relationship. That stated, you could probably apply that lesson to all relationships you encounter.

Comic Con is not only good for comic related news and culture, but also for semi-official video game sequel announcements as well. It’s true!
According to The Quarter Bin’s recap of Top Cow Production’ Comic Con panel, when speaking about their future comic book licensing agreements they responded by hinting pretty heavily that The Darkness 2 is real and in the works. More specifically, Top Cow told everyone in attendance that “we can’t state DARKNESS and video game sequel in the same sentence. So, DARKNESS. Wink. Sequel.” So, there you’ve it. A possibly, maybe, probably The Darkness sequel announcement straight from The Darkness creators Top Cow. Fun stuff.

Following hand in hand with Xbox Live coming back on the internet are two new (and previously promised) Xbox Originals titles to the Xbox Live Marketplace. Both the 5.39GB Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and 1.61GB Metal Arms: Glitch in the System are now available for 1200 Microsoft points each to all Xbox Live regions except folks in Japan. And because it’s an icky Monday and we’re feeling crabby, we have to mention that that these and all Xbox Originals titles don’t feature any achievements OR come with paper manuals. We know how infuriated some fanboys get without their paper manuals.
