Chatting with MTV Multiplayer, Soul Calibur IV’s director Katsutoshi Sasaki offered some insight as to whether or not the regular cast of characters would have a fighting chance against Yoda because of his size factor:

“The influences that Yoda will have in terms of gameplay because of his height, [is that] some of the upper attacks won’t hit him,” he said. “However, we always try to make the gameplay fun, so we prepare positive demerits of choosing Yoda and also negative demerits on it. There’s always some give and take.”

It’s been a while since I’ve played as Link in Soul Calibur II, but from what I remember, he wasn’t terribly overpowered (or too weak for that matter). If Yoda ends up being created in that vein, that’d be terrific. Otherwise, I’m afraid that everyone will want to select him for on the web battles and that would get annoying, fast.

Sasaki goes on to talk about “borrowing” innovative features in rival games:

College football fans, you can stop biting your nails. After a long wait — the 360 version’s cover was announced way back on March 6th, and the Wii version’s cover was unveiled twelve days later — we finally know the identity of the PS3 version’s coverboy for NCAA Football 09: Matt Ryan, former quarterback for the Boston College Eagles.

EA’s press release (hit the jump) mentions that Ryan (who is entering the 2008 NFL Draft) will join Darren McFadden, the 360 version’s coverboy, as a spokesman for the game. I bet Sparty is feeling left out at the moment… The PR babble also discusses numerous features and highlights of the game, including its Dynasty Mode and Home Field Advantage.

In addition to the official press release, EA sent over eight brand spanking new screenshots of the game, three of which feature newly crowned coverboy Ryan. Along with the first trailer, this game is looking pretty good. Curiously, Ryan’s number in the game is 10, though Ryan wore #12 for the Eagles. You can check out the shots below, along with the PS3 box. The PS2 and PSP versions will share the same artwork; it’ll be revealed in early Might.

NCAA Football 09 will be out on July 15th for the PS3, 360, Wii, PS2, PSP, and mobile devices.

Although this is all over the Internet by now, be warned that minor spoilers concerning Metal Gear Solid 4 will be in this post. And on the subject of spoiled minors …

The BBFC has indirectly caused some controversy, due its rating of the game Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The game has a 15+ age rating and contains all the usual themes of violence, blood and bad language. However, one thing that you don’t often see in a videogame is “implied child rape,” and it seems that Solid Snake’s PS3 outing will contain just that.

The British ratings board warns that MGS4 “features one use of strong language and references to suicide and an implied child rape.” We know that Olga’s daughter, Sunny, will feature in the game … but who does what, and why? A tiny unsettling, but a very dark theme for a videogame to tackle. The only other game I know of that at least subtly hinted at that kind of child abuse was Killer 7, even though that was just the impression I got from the in-game dialog and could have been misinterpreted. Oh, and that Survival Horror about the large retarded kiddy fiddler who rapes your main character if he gets her.

So … which MGS character is the dirty, dirty nonce? My money’s on Otacon. He just looks the type.

I’m not going to complain that Criterion are releasing too many damned Burnout Paradise updates and that they’re getting hard to keep up with. OK, fine — I am. There’s a “Bogart” update, a “Cagney” update, and then there’s this damned “Davis” update. But it’s hard to stay mad at Criterion because the “Davis” update will bring — take a seat — night time and motorbikes.

For me, the one of the biggest gaming disappointment of 2007 was the four-player monster killing romp, Monster Madness: Battle of Suburbia. The Xbox 360 title was clearly influenced by one of my favorite 16-bit titles, LucasArts’ Zombies Ate My Neighbors, but was missing one key element — fun. Battle for Suburbia had all of the right ingredients for a good time — an interesting art style, cooperative play, wide weapon variety — but was unfortunately marred by a mind-bendingly poor control scheme.

In the PlayStation 3 port of the title, Monster Madness: Grave Danger, more has changed than is evidenced by these screens. The development of Grave Danger has been handled by a completely new development team, Psyonix Studios, who have reworked the core gameplay found in Artificial Studios’ original title. And thank God someone has given the title a second chance, because the promise of a formidable successor to LucasArts’ classic may finally be fulfilled.

We’ve known about it for a while, but Sony Personal Entertainment Europe have finally crawled out of their hole and confirmed the forthcoming PlayStation 3/Grand Theft Auto IV bundle.

That’s what 1UP’s page for the game states, and considering 1UP and EGM are bedfellows, I’m willing to trust them. It seems that EGM is also pushing this as a Survival Horror game … a clue as to what the gameplay holds, perhaps?

I would have always classified Splatterhouse as a Beat ‘Em Up, but the series is certainly recognized as the title that would pave the way for the Survival Horror genre. I can’t imagine this game will be block puzzles and pistols with limited ammo, however. Just give me a blatant Jason Vorhees rip-off with a 2

For fanboys who’ll be attending the 2008 DUB Show Tour and showing their vehicle support, you’ll also be able to show your Xbox 360 support as well. Microsoft will be sponsoring an Xbox 360 Gaming Experience Area at all twelve DUB Show Tour stops (schedule viewable after the jump) where attendees can experience the best in 360 gaming all while winning prizes and participating in autograph signings. So, after a long day of looking at sweet whips, costly rides and diamond encrusted rims, we advise sitting back, relaxing and playing a few rounds of Halo 3.

Good news Rainbow Six Vegas 2 gamers who’ve been bothered by the handful of bugs (including the accomplishment unlock problem) that have been making your RSV2 experience less than superb. Ubisoft sends word that they just released a RSV2 title update via Xbox Live that aims at fixing a bunch of the gameplay issues. So many fixes, we had to post the list after the break to prevent eye strain. Highlights include the fixing of the rank reset glitch, numerous accomplishment fixes and an improved observer mode. High five to Ubisoft for actually caring enough to get a patch out the door, even though these problems should have been caught during QA testing. Tisk, tisk.
