As promised, those of us who own Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on the PS3 can now enjoy four new multiplayer maps! I bet you 360 owners are all going, “Been there, done that,” but you’ve already been playing on Killhouse, Broadcast, Chinatown, and Creek for the past three weeks — so keep quiet and let us have our moment in the sun, okay? The map pack is now available on the PlayStation Network for $9.99.
But there’s an important side note to the map pack. In a post on his blog, fourzerotwo warns that the map pack is region-locked, so you’ll have to log in to your own country’s PlayStation Store to purchase the DLC that’s compatible with your disc. In other words, don’t bother trying to download the map pack through an international friend’s account, you pirates:
If you’ve the GERMAN version of the game, you MUST buy the GERMAN version of the map pack.
If you have the UK version of the game, you MUST purchase the UK version of the map pack.
Just make sure that the Disc version and the Map Pack version matches up. If you’ve an [sic] UK version of the game, DO NOT buy a German version of the map pack. It won’t work. The same goes for any other mismatched version.
Apparently, Infinity Ward is speaking with Sony to try and figure out a solution for people who have already spent the $10 on a non-compatible version. One more thing of note that the press release (after the jump) mentions is the release date for the PS3 version of the GOTY edition of CoD 4: apparently, it will be out on May 6th, and it’ll include the same free token for the Variety Map Pack that the 360 version does. Either way, I’m going to download the maps later tonight — who’s with me? Or do you have them already? Remember, the Double XP Weekend began as of 7:01 PM EDT, so hop on the PSN and get fragging!

Happy echochrome demo day! But, for those not in the mood to Escher their minds, there may be a couple other things in this week’s PSN update to pique your interest.
The PS1 classic R-Types is available for $6 and bundles R-Type with R-Type II for one giant classic shmup experience. The Call of Duty 4 fans can get excited that the Variety Map Pack is finally available. Living room performers should be happy that Karaoke Revolution: AIE added a huge variety of new songs. There’s a lot of stuff in this update, so check it all out after the break.
Europe has an update too. Want to know what it is? Head on over to PS3 Fanboy. %Gallery-11823%

That copy of Army of Two getting a tiny stale? Well, good news! Major Nelson just dropped word that new content is now available for EA’s co-op action-shooter on the Xbox Live Marketplace.
For 600 MS Points ($7.50 US) gamers can add the SSC Challenge Map Pack to their experience. The package includes four two-player co-op maps which allows two teams to compete in the SSC Challenge versus mode for the chance to earn big boatloads of cash. You know, to help buy that diamond studded shotgun you always wanted. Seriously, we always thought that Private Military corporations were filled with hardcore fighters with tons of baditude, not a bunch of guys who make-believe Pimp My Ride with their killing machines.
But hey, we canceled our subscription to Guns N’ Ammo, so what do we know?

GameTrailers has released a new gameplay video of The Bourne Conspiracy, one of the first to feature a non-stop section of pure gameplay (complete with a HUD this time). This video in particular shows off both the gunplay and melee combat of The Bourne Conspiracy and gives us some clues as to how it will all actually work. Thus far, Sierra has been keen to point out that the game would capture the brutal combat seen in the films, and what’s on display in the video is definitely interesting.
Looking at the video, it seems like most of the really brutal moves are initiated as reversals or counters to attacks from the enemy, triggering a brief cinematic attack from Bourne. Beyond that, it looks like the moves actually performed by the player are limited to a few basic punches. Of course, we won’t know exactly how it works until we lay our hands on a controller and play it, so we’ll reserve judgment until the announced demo arrives next month. In the meantime, give the video a look and share your thoughts in the comments.

It’s nearly time for Bonnaroo, (Tennessee’s music and arts festival that takes up some 700 acres of farmland) which is set to go down in June and Xbox.com wants to send one lucky Play & Win gamer to the festivities.
To enter for the chance at an all expense paid trip to Bonnaroo, all you have to do is play Rock Band online between Might 9th and the 11th and KAZAAM! You’re entered. Of course, you’ll have to register here first or download the exclusive Bonnaroo Play & Win gamer picture off the XBLM, but you already knew that. If you win and are flown to Tennessee, be sure to tell Kanye, Metallica and Willie Nelson that X3F says hiya! Good luck fanboys!

Taking their Gears of War action figure experience to a new ninja level, NECA (with the help of Action Figure Insider) just released some sculpt in progress pics of an upcoming and previously unannounced Ninja Gaiden II Ryu figure. And even though the prototype figure is tan colored blahness, it’s still the hawtness! No word on a release date or pricing, but we’d anticipate our lovely Ryu figure to ninja-kick retailers in time for the game’s June release.

The first screen of the recently revealed revival of Namco Bandai’s Splatterhouse has been uncovered, thanks to 1Up. The new Splatterhouse is set to release in the middle of 2009 and is being developed by BottleRocket ( Mark of Kri, Rise of the Kasai). Details surrounding the game are sparse at the moment, apart from the revelation that the game’s protagonist, Rick (pictured above) will be making a return. More details — and presumably many more images — will be coming in the June issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly.

Well, it only took two days after the initial update but Xbox Live seems to be back to normal again. According to the support page on Xbox.com the service is fully functional and thank goodness!
Xbox Live is sure to be tested this Tuesday when Grand Theft Auto IV hits store shelves. Will the service be up to the task? We’d like to think the tech ninjas at Microsoft have been preparing for this very situation, but don’t ask us to put money on it. What? Gambling is wrong, that’s why.

The ever watchful folks over at 360Sync recently spotted a new Ninja Gaiden II standee at their local GameStop. At first glance it appears to be nothing more than your typical standee, but look closer and you can see glory. Yes, that is a Ninja Gaiden II Xbox 360 (and it appears to be an Elite at that). GameStop will apparently be giving these consoles away — how many we don’t know — sometime in the near future. Unfortunately, the URL listed on the standee currently leads to a dead page. Here’s hoping it goes live soon, because we’ve got to get our hands on that sweet console. Just look at it … sitting there in all its majesty. That thing could probably slay a hundred demons before breakfast.

Sure, the Xbox 360 gets Peter Jackson to helm its games, but EA nabbed Steven Spielberg, which is nothing to sneeze at. Undoubtedly one of the biggest stories in gaming over the last year is his involvement with Electronic Arts to produce Boom Blox for the Wii. Inspired by good old-fashioned toy blocks, the game has players manipulating blocks in a 3D environment complete with impressive physics … and explosions apparently. It’s a puzzle game, see? Anywho, word on the street, according to VideoGamer.com, is that Boom Blox — which began solely as a Wii project — may find its way onto other consoles as well. The news comes from the game’s senior producer Amir Rahimi, who stated at a recent event in London, “there’s definitely the possibility of going to other consoles.”
Sure, it’s not an explicit confirmation of a 360 version, but given EA’s history, we’d say it’s a safe bet assuming the game actually does go multiplatform at some point. The only question now is how the game would work without a motion controller … oh wait.
