I hate 1UP right now, sitting on top of all that delicious Splatterhouse info and slowly distributing scraps to the masses like capricious Roman emperors from on high. Ah screw it, I will take whatever I can get.
The above image is Rick’s new in-game look for the Xbox 360/PS3 resurrection of Splatterhouse. It’s a slight departure from the more blatant Vorhees rip-off, especially the Hulk Hogan arms, but I have the ability to dig it. It has a hyper-real look that should hopefully mean we’ve got some ridiculously over-the-top, cartoony gore to look forward to.
In addition, it has been revealed that Splatterhouse is to be developed by Bottlerocket, the team that brought us Mark of Kri and Rise of the Kasai. I wasn’t actually all that keen on Kri, but I know it’s considered a generally solid action game, so it’s good to see the team has had some success in the past when it comes to combat driven gameplay. Finally, the game is due for release mid-2009.
That’s all they’ll tell us, the fiends. When EGM hits, someone be a dear and scan everything in for your humble, UK-bound writer, please.

Nintendo will launch the aptly-titled Nintendo Channel alongside WiiWare in the US on Might 12, according to Wired. There will be no demos for WiiWare titles, but users will have the capability to review WiiWare titles if they’ve played it for at least an hour, which can be viewed within the Nintendo Channel. It will also provide sortable lists of upcoming games.
While a far cry from The New York Times’ “full game downloads” claim in January, DS owners can download demos that will then be sent to the portable and last until it’s shut off. The Japanese version, launched in November 2007, also provides videos. The Nintendo Channel is coming to Europe on Might 30.

GameTap goes on an intergalactic mission this week with space-smuggler sim Darkstar One. The service also adds another title which, at first glance, may confuse a few people into thinking it’s a absolutely different game.
- Darkstar One (Windows) - A semi-precious gem from a couple years ago that’s inspired by the great space-sim shooters of the ’90s and doesn’t take itself too seriously in the commerce department.
- Great Journey (Windows) - No, it’s not The Longest Journey … not by the longest shot. It’s actually an E-rated game about stopping polluters in Antarctica.
Get ready to hadouken as GameTap’s free games adds Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers this week. Find the full free games list, presented in Chun-Li Thunder-Thigh-O-Vision, after the break (Thunder-Thigh-O-Vision may not be available on some browsers).

There are quite a few different types of video game trailers. You’ve teaser trailers which usually try to tease viewers without actually showing anything of importance. Then you have gameplay trailers where (you guessed it) actual gameplay is shown, giving gamers a nice sampling of what the game has to offer. Finally, you’ve cinematic trailers. A trailer that presents the game as if it were an epic six week television mini-series or Summer blockbuster movie. Cinematic video game trailers try to balance mood, visuals and story just enough to get gamers excited and captivated. So, now that you’ve been informed, here you go. Finally, after numerous pieces of downloadable content have graced the Japanese Marketplace, Lost Odyssey fans in other Live regions will get in on the DLC fun.
A new 200 Microsoft point Lost Odyssey DLC bonus pack will release on Friday, April 25th to North America (and, more than likely, to the European) XBLM and feature a new dream sequence and a few new items. “The Shattered Bond” will allow plays to experience a new dream, the “Killer Machine” ring will give extra protection against magic-powered weapons and the “Memory Lamp” will let players re-live previous dreams. The DLC may be a tad bit on the high-priced side, but at least it’s available outside of Japan. Right?
