Coming soon from The Collective is the fifth game in Konami’s Silent Hill series, recently renamed Silent Hill: Homecoming. From the 11 new screenshots we’ve snagged it appears that the California-based developer has captured the creepy atmosphere of the original Silent Hill games. Since it was announced that The Collective would be developing the latest entry of the series, and not the original Konami team, fans have been somewhat reluctant to get on board with the game. While it isn’t set to release until the fall, the game at least appears to be a step in the right direction.

If getting Grand Theft Auto IV when the clock strikes midnight on Tuesday, April 29th is of uber importance, then you’ll probably have to head to either Ideal Buy or GameStop. And since Best Buy’s midnight launches are rather minimal, that’ll probably leave the majority of you standing in line at GameStop. But which GameStop store should you wait at? Enter the GameStop list-o-GTAIV midnight release stores! Encapsulated in a nice, easy to read PDF is a list of U.S. GameStop stores who’ll be holding GTAIV midnight releases. Also note that you’ll probably require a pre-order prior to the midnight festivities. Or you could always wait an extra twelve hours and pickup a free $10 gift card at Circuit City. It’s up to you though …

Who would’ve guessed it — the Metal Gear Online beta went live just in time for Friday Night Fights. Talk about timing! I’m excited about it and I don’t even own a freakin’ PlayStation 3.

For those of you who do own a PS3 (and have access to the MGO beta), however, we’ve got huge plans for you tonight. To fully prepare yourselves, I advocate y’all hit up the game ID thread in the forums, then make sure to read the instructions for joining the Dtoid match after the break.

As for the rest of us unlucky bastards, there’ll still be the usual Friday Night Fights shenanigans that we’ve come to know and love.

[Thanks, Toneman, power-glove, Y0j1mbo, vexed alex, bunnyrabbit2, WTF Joel, and the rest of you beautiful people.]

X-Blades, an action game set to hit the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC later this year, has kind of been flying under my radar. I hadn’t heard anything about it until this past weekend at the SouthPeak Games booth at NY Comic Con, where they had footage of the game running as part of a looping trailer.

OK, enough is enough. I can’t take it anymore. Here’s another God damned trailer for Grand Theft Auto IV, this time focusing on the game’s central character, Niko Bellic. I’m tired of this trailer crap … give me the damned game, already.

I know it’s in stores, too. I spoke with some GameStop folks who stated they received their shipments yesterday, and they’re just sitting in their stock rooms collecting dust until April 29. I also know that if I were a shady character, I could toss on an eye patch and pirate the game. But I’m not an industry ruining monster, so I don’t even have a unit I could play the damned thing on. (Hey, I won’t judge if you do.)

I’m sitting here on Friday afternoon, staring outside my window for a FedEx or DHL or UPS truck to deliver my review copy of GTA IV. Nothing. I was told it would arrive (possibly) by this weekend, but as the day drags on, I’m starting to believe that’s simply not happening. And then GameTrailers sends us a link to this video, as if to rub it in my face. I’m slipping those dudes some roofies at E3.

Seriously, I can’t take this waiting for much longer. Why do Rockstar tease us like this?

All of the buzz might be surrounding Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV, but 2K Games doesn’t want you to forget about Mafia II. The publisher has reminded us about the open-world 1950s gangster title by sending us a small batch of impressive looking screenshots for the title.

Konami has released an unlucky 13 new screenshots for the next Silent Hill title, the recently christened Silent Hill: Homecoming. They feature everything you’d expect — fog, gaunt weirdos with sunken cheeks, a creepy playground, a monster coming out of the ground. Yup, definitely Silent Hill.

As some of you may know, the series has been handed over to California-based developer The Collective. It’s unfortunate that their body of work is so spotty, consisting mostly of television and film licensed titles, including the Dirty Harry game which will never see the light of day. They did make Buffy: The Vampire Slayer for the Xbox, which to this day remains one of my favorite Buffy console games out of the two that were released.

Silent Hill: Homecoming has been confirmed to be coming to Europe this September for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. For what it’s worth, the North American arm of GameStop is currently listing the game for a 2009 release, so you may want to start saving those import dollars.

Making its way back to its normal Friday time slot is yet another Video Marketplace Weekly and this week we’ve a bunch of new movie goodness. That’s if you enjoy toxic horror movies or comedic gold, because Toxic Avenger Part II and III as well as Toxic Crusaders: The Motion picture released to the U.S. Video Marketplace. Also, the Steve Carell comedy Dan in Real Life released which, we’ll admit, has to feature one of our favorite motion picture covers. Probably because we like pancakes and listening to them as if they were a bowl of Rice Krispies. Anyway, make you way to the break to digest this week’s U.S. Video Marketplace new releases.
