Speaking with Eurogamer, Doug Lombardi revealed that we won’t be getting a sequel to the ultra-popular Portal anytime soon by saying, “you won’t see a new Portal at retail this Christmas.”
“I think that when you hit something like that, you have two choices: you can swiftly replicate it and stick it out there — do the opportunistic thing and cash in on it; or you can do the crazy thing like we did after Half-Life was so successful and go off and try and state, ‘Okay, that was revolutionary, so its successor has to be equally as revolutionary.’”
This news really shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone. Valve’s become famous for taking as much time as it needs to make a product that is nothing short of breathtaking, even if that usually means gamers are in for a long, long wait.
While I’m sure Portal 2 will be astounding whenever it does come out, the wait is definitely going to be a painful one. What would you guys like to see in the sequel? An overall lengthier experience? More Companion Cube lovin’?
