At the Sierra event we attended XBLA games weren’t exactly the main attraction. Despite the fact that four games were there, the area was rather empty in comparison to the rest of the games’ booths. True, it was a bit hidden toward the back, but there were never more than a dozen people there at a time (including the devs!) On first glimpse of the XBLA titles listed on the cardboard display, it appeared as though the place was being avoided for good reason, but …

In a not-too-surprising move this week, Microsoft announced via Major Nelson that the Live Arcade wouldn’t be seeing any releases this week. The last month or so of XBLA titles have had their release dates leaked or rumored beforehand, and as we’d heard nothing this week, the news of zero releases isn’t all that surprising. Besides, the most likely release would have been Happy Tree Friends: False Alarm. And in the words of Major Nelson, “My guess is most people will be busy with another …

The United Says Postal Service delivered a mysterious package to my door this day, return address Forest Hill, London (with postage on the package stating it was sent from New York City). Concerned for my safety (everyone’s a terrorist these days), I carefully opened the package to find the following:
A one-kilo brick of Nazi gold (heavy, but a replica), two stickers, and a letter in German.

Putting two and two together, this is obviously some sort of tie in with Replay Studios’ stealth action title, Velvet Assassin. Last month, …

Speaking with Eurogamer, Doug Lombardi revealed that we won’t be getting a sequel to the ultra-popular Portal anytime soon by saying, “you won’t see a new Portal at retail this Christmas.”
“I think that when you hit something like that, you have two choices: you can swiftly replicate it and stick it out there — do the opportunistic thing and cash in on it; or you can do the crazy thing like we did after Half-Life was so successful and go off and try and state, ‘Okay, that was revolutionary, so …

How long has it been since the original Ghostbusters hit theaters? It was over two decades ago you state? Well then, it sounds like the perfect time to revive the franchise, capitalize on nostalgia, and of course churn out some crappy video game tie-ins. What’s that you say there? Ghostbusters the game actually looks good? Really? Really. It does. With a fresh approach to the license based around manipulating the environment, and with an entirely in-house engine, Terminal Reality and Sierra could be looking at the best licensed …

Remember when an analysts predicted that the release of Grand Theft Auto IV could derail the ticket sales of the Iron Man movie that releases this week? While the idea that large video game launches hindering movie releases is nothing new — they said the same thing about Halo 3 — we’ve one more prediction to make about the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV: it’s going to put a serious damper on sales of the Iron Man video game. You see, they both come …

Update: It looks like Namco Bandai made an error in their original press release. Smash Court Tennis 3 is actually releasing in August, not June. Thanks to 360Sync for the heads up.
As if tennis fans didn’t have enough exciting tennis fun to look forward to this year, Atari and NAMCO just announced that Smash Court Tennis 3 will hit retailers this June August. The same game that released in Japan last December. Smash Court Tennis 3 will feature the standard array of game features including Xbox Live versus, …

Sierra recently showed off its upcoming crop of XBLA games at a media event. While a couple have promise, most could be buried by the quantity or quality of competitors. All are confirmed only for XBLA, but Sierra is considering PSN versions of most. All will be out this Summer.

If you remember World in Conflict from last year, expect more of the same in this fall’s World in Conflict: Soviet Assault. If you don’t remember it, you might have been washed over by a dozen other great games. The real-time battle strategy takes gamers into an alternate 1989; the Cold War turns into a firefight.
Two changes define this update: 360 and PS3 gamers can play, and a new campaign lets you play from the Soviet perspective. …
