Is it all that surprising? Xbox 360 director of product management (and all around snappy dresser) Aaron Greenberg told Reuters that it wouldn’t be surprising to see Grand Theft Auto IV snag the top position on Xbox Live. While most Xbox Live gamers know that shooters like Call of Duty 4 and Halo 3 are generally the major competitors for the number one slot on Xbox Live, Greenberg said of GTAIV, “The multiplayer in this game is so well implemented that I can’t imagine anyone owning a copy without trying to play it on Xbox Live.” Greenberg is probably right about that. After all, he forecasts (correctly, we’d guess) that GTAIV will be the highest selling game of 2008, so there will certainly be plenty of players ready to go online. The question is whether or not players will continue to play once they’ve given multiplayer a try.

Will GTAIV take the top spot? We’re going to go out on a limb and state yes. Will it stay? We’ll have to wait and see.

When it comes to Fable 2, we’ll gladly gobble up every single morsel of information that Lionhead sees fit to give us. The latest entry of the Fable 2 developer blog doesn’t give us much, but something is always superior than nothing, right? First, the sixth episode of the Lionhead video diary is now complete. It’s currently holed up at Microsoft, waiting to be uploaded to the Xbox Live Marketplace. When the video will actually release is still up in the air, though the word “soon” is mentioned.

Second, we’ve the brand new screenshot seen above. It is (if you haven’t guessed) an appropriately spooky graveyard. We can’t be sure, but we’d bet that it is likely filled with ghosts, zombies, or perhaps both.

Finally, Lionhead’s community manager, Sam, is having his wisdom teeth removed this week. Ideal of luck, Sam. Enjoy the nitrous.

Over on the Far Cry 2 developer blog, the crew posted a couple new in-game shots showcasing Far Cry 2’s wondrously illuminate lighting system after the team claims they’ve made “leaps and bounds” on the engine. We placed both new screenshots in the gallery below and our first take on them and the lighting is something along the lines of “wow” and “amazing”. Who knew an old tabletop fan and piles of rubble could look so darn good?

Recently announced Madden NFL 09 coverboy, and retiree, Brett Favre was vocal on his future and video game honor in an interview with the Associated Press last Friday. The three-time NFL MVP discussed his future off the field along with his legacy and was very candid when the Madden honor was mentioned. “I’m not savvy enough to play this game,” Favre said. “Most of the younger generation has no idea [John Madden] coached.”

Favre ended the Madden discussion by taking a quick shot at the younger generation of NFL Pros. “Some of our guys play Madden better than they play on Sundays. And they spend more time talking about playing Madden.” Well, based on Green Bay’s 2007-2008 playoff record, the team clearly didn’t spending time speaking about beating the New York Giants. Ba-zing!

diablo

Several weeks ago, Diablo3.com, an independent fansite, posted a provocative countdown set to end today, May 1st. The site teased that today would be the day that “half the web” links to the domain … well, let us save you the click. Of the two potential outcomes posed by WoW Insider, we get the far less interesting one: Blizzard has acquired the Diablo3.com domain from Roger Barr (aka “Mockery”) who is transitioning his fansite to a new domain, more appropriately dubbed, Diablofans.com.

Currently, Diablo3.com redirects to Diablofans.com, but eventually it will redirect to Blizzard.com, and after that…? Mr. Mockery notes that Blizzard has reminded him that the acquisition of the domain is not an official announcement of Diablo III, but Mockery can’t help but speculate that “this is a confirmation of sorts that they’re working on the next Diablo game.” True that.

After doing our not so daily internet rounds, we came across a few “newish” screenshots from Isopod Labs’ upcoming XBLA release Vigilante 8 Arcade. The new screenshots (viewable in the gallery below) are taken from the Meteor Crater arena and not only depict the usual explosive vehicle gameplay we all know and love, but also some of the arena’s one-of-a-kind features including dust devils, tunnel teleports and (of course) meteor showers. We have to admit, V8 is coming together quite nicely.

There’s a brand new Guitar Hero AerosmithRock Out Trailer” that recently released which aims at pulling you back into the Guitar Hero world. Which it does, because GHAero’s look really hasn’t changed all that much from GHIII, except for the addition of real-time ribbon physics that have been added for Steven Tyler’s microphone stand. And we don’t know if it’s just us or not, but don’t you think the cartoon version of Steven Tyler is a bit on the manorexic side? We have the ability to count his ribs … just saying.

Up until last night IGN had a feature video dedicated to scenes that depicted GTAIV lead character, Niko Bellic, performing sexual acts and murdering prostitutes on the internet. After questioning the validity of such a video from MTV Multiplayer Blog lead Stephen Totilo, and bringing up the video with a contact at Fox; who owns IGN, the video was removed from IGN’s site.

“IGN’s goal is to show our users all aspects of popular games on the market,” an IGN spokesperson told Totilo. “In this case, we crossed a line in how we portrayed some aspects of the game and we’ve taken this video down.”

The video begins with a montage of pole-dancing and lap-dancing and then spirals into violence with multiple shootings of scantily-clad women by Bellic.

Forgetting that such a specifically focused look at that small, and optional, portion of the game was featured in such a way and the irony of a Fox owned outlet creating and releasing the video, we’re left wondering what the point was. Doesn’t creating a feature that only looks at such a controversial part of GTAIV fuel the fire for Rockstar naysayers? Well, at least we know which video we’re likely to see when Fox News tackles the content of Grand Theft Auto IV.
