Ah, Grand Theft Auto IV. It’s perhaps the biggest release in the history of video games, and it has received near-universal acclaim — well, that’s except for a few facets: namely, the multiplayer and the driving. Regarding that second point, I received a couple of emails earlier this week asking about a “driving guide” that I had supposedly written up, and I also saw a number of comments wondering when it would be released. I had no idea how word of it got out until I noticed Jim’s “Second Jimpressions” blog, in which he mentioned the “ridiculously lengthy tutorial on automobile turning” that I had written in a staff emailer.
Well, I don’t mean to burst your bubble, folks, but this purported driving guide is nothing profound. It doesn’t comprise any “secrets” or anything of the sort; it merely consists of some tips on how to keep your car under control on the streets of Liberty City. Hell, it wasn’t even close to this long when I originally typed it up. But before I get to it, I’ve also included a bit of background on the automobiles in GTA IV, and my opinion of the changes that Rockstar has made. Hit the jump to go back to driver’s ed.
[Editor’s note: This was originally posted in my community blog, but at Reverend Anthony’s recommendation, I’ve moved it here. Enjoy!]

The super-powered open world genre is now wide open thanks to Prototype being delayed, and The Incredible Hulk is going to be all there really is in city destruction this fall. Previous screens didn’t show much else besides the Hulk himself, but these showcase the Abomination, New York and the graphics engine. Other than the screens, it was revealed that GameStop has some sort of exclusive in their package. The description on their website describes it as “Gamestop Exclusive Red Hulk” but who knows what that really means, as that description could apply to nearly anything. So if you’re going to buy the game from GameStop, be aware, you could be be getting everything from a skin to a sticker to an action figure.

*Sigh* More delays. This time it’s Hail to the Chimp, the arena-fighting, politically-charged, animal-filled cel-shaded game from Wideload studios. Originally set for release at the end of this month, Hail to the Chimp has been delayed a month for “polish.” As former QA experience tells us, this is likely a good thing, as there was probably a choice between hitting ship with a certain amount of bugs or delaying the game and getting to repair the bugs. When it does finally hit on June 24th, Hail to the Chimp should hopefully be that much better.

Yesterday we revealed the, interestingly named, expansion pack Rocketmen: It Came from Uranus for the Xbox Live Arcade shoot-em-up Rocketmen: Axis of Evil.
This day we have five screenshots of the game which are ironically safe-for-work. While we didn’t get past the demo of the XBLA title, Capcom decided it was popular enough to warrant an expansion pack. The pack will add new weapons and levels to the game and will run gamers 400 MS Points when it releases on Might 14.

“My name is Ash, and I am a slave….”
That line is a quote from a classic film, and yet sadly it is also used as a hook for a story all too often. Being the eternal pessimist that I am, I immediately braced myself for the worst while stepping into the world of Funcom’s massively multiplayer online game, Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures. Oddly enough, though, as I continued to wander through the storyline and explore this new world, I became less skeptical of that overused plotline. It seems that Funcom did a fairly good job of incorporating that beginning into at least the first six levels of the game, as you go through chasing down your former slave master with the eventual goal of having your slave shackles removed.
Once this tiny slave subplot is pretty much finished, you nosedive into the real storyline, which can be summed up as:

Pssst! Don’t tell anyone — but I’d knock over your grandma to get my hands on Resistance 2. Insomniac’s forthcoming sequel to their killer PlayStation 3 first-person shooter makes me feel all warm below the belt, and I fully plan on taking off of work for some eight-player cooperative action when the game hits this fall.

Citing resources and the fact that they’re “not PS3 developers,” Valve’s Doug Lombardi confirmed that there are currently no plans to bring the first-person zombie shooter, Left 4 Dead, to the PlayStation 3.
According to Lombardi, who recently spoke with CVG, Left 4 Dead’s new IP status means the game “doesn’t have that guaranteed appeal yet.” Provided the game does well (and by all accounts there’s no reason it shouldn’t), it’s possible we may see a PS3 version somewhere down the line.
