Sega’s upcoming game The Breathtaking Hulk might be a lot of things, but one thing it’s not is “realistic.” We’re speaking about a big green dude tearing apart New York City, folks. Still, Sega keep insisting that the title is an “intensely realistic third-person action” game. Not simply realistic — “intensely realistic.” That’s a wild claim right there.

Released the day after April Fools, Mr Driller On the internet was criticized immediately for its lack of polish. The non-HD, up-scaled sprites and the on the web lag were by far the biggest complaints, and while the former is a lost cause, the latter should hopefully be fixed before month’s end. Talking with IGN, Namco promised that the patch would fix the on the internet technical glitches, but whether or not the game can be saved in both mind and market share, remains to be seen.

Joystiq readers love Scott Ramsoomair. Like, love love. Anything the VG Cats artist touches pretty much shoots to the top of the webcomic wrapup by default. So his spinoff strip, Super Effective, unsurprisingly took very top honors this week.

Second and third place go to 2P Begin and Digital Unrest, respectively. Thanks to everyone who voted, and be sure to let us know of any game-related webcomics you stumble upon this week!

Blizzard has launched a new on the internet store, selling games (both digital and off the grid), books, collectibles, limited apparel and more. The store is now also offering titles for digital download — right now only Starcraft and Warcraft III (as well as their respective expansion packs) are available, but according to this handy F.A.Q., more will be made available later.

As noted by WoW Insider, registering for the store enters you into a lottery to partake in an upcoming beta such as Wrath of the Lich King, Starcraft II or the as-of-yet unannounced (but we dream so very much) Rock and Roll Racing MMO.

BioWare’s technical producer Derek French has announced a surprising new copy protection scheme that requires the user to be on the internet at regular intervals while playing both Mass Effect and Spore on the Personal computer. If you’re not on the internet to validate your copy of either game each ten days, your product will stop working. Wait … what?

After the first activation, SecuROM requires that [Mass Effect PC] re-check with the server within ten days (in case the CD Key has become public/warez’d and gets banned)

… After 10 days a re-check is required before the game can run.

I’m not really a Personal computer gamer, but my gut instinct on this is that it’s a stupid idea and I have the ability to see something going wrong. People are already reacting pretty badly to the news on the web, and I have the ability to see the backlash escalating, along with any number of problems that can arise from expecting paying customers to continually prove that they’re not pirates.

If you’re reading this and are anywhere near London, why aren’t you at The O2? Sony Europe is currently holding its “PlayStation Day” there, so — oh, wait, never mind; it’s press-only. Apparently, they’ve got a number of upcoming PS3 games playable there. Anyway, the press conference that kicked off the event ended recently, and we’ve got a few juicy morsels of Sony-related information for you, courtesy of Eurogamer’s liveblog.

Up above, you can view the first trailer for EA DICE’s Mirror’s Edge, a first-person action/adventure title. It’s got a female protagonist who reminded me of Jade from Beyond Good & Evil at first glance. I’m worried about running and jumping around a city without being able to see where my feet are (unless I look down), but it certainly looks impressive so far — according to the trailer, it’s all in-game footage.

Unfortunately, there’s also some bad news. Trigger-happy PS3 owners will be sad to hear this: Reeves offhandedly announced that Guerrilla’s highly anticipated FPS, Killzone 2, has been delayed yet again; it will now be out in February 2009. Another PS3 exclusive title that gamers have been waiting for with bated breath is LittleBigPlanet. Sadly, we’re going to have to wait just a tad longer; it’s been pushed back a month into October.

Early on in the show, Reeves introduced Kaz Hirai; he talked about a number of things, including PlayStation Home. He stressed that he wouldn’t release the Second Life-esque on the web world until he’s “completely happy with it.” Apparently, Home will be “open to the public towards the end of the year” — I just hope he’s talking about the full product as opposed to a public beta.

Hit the jump for more.
