Do you like art? We here at X3F totally do, especially when it has to do with a game that sounds great and that we don’t know a whole lot about yet. In a sped-up video of Ubisoft’s character artist working his magic, we watch as twenty minutes (amazing!) of work flies by in about a minute, producing a stylized likeness of the protagonist. And as is becoming more common in the gaming world, there are plans to keep the short video clips of the game coming, to introduce the potential players to the world, in hopes they’ll eventually become actual players. A photo of the artwork can be found here.

The headline says it all folks. 1up seems to have gotten their hands on some new Gears 2 footage, and come Friday we are going to be, by their own admission, blown away. We’re thinking massive amounts of enemies on-screen and nice water, but whether or not we’ll be privy to anything at all close to gameplay is unsure. Epic has proved beforethat their Unreal engine is up to the job, but gamers will want more than just a tech demo. For now it’s just a waiting game till week’s end. Oh, and the video won’t go live till 10:30pm PST so those of you overseas or cross country might have wait until morning. Boo hoo.

inXile Entertainment, the developer behind 2004’s tongue-in-cheek RPG The Bard’s Tale, has announced the founding of a new online-focused division called SparkWorkz, with former Microsoft exec David Heeley tapped to call the shots. According to inXile, SparkWorkz will “build an online network and community” for showing off user-generated content.

All of this sounds a bit like inXile is attempting to recapture YouTube’s lightning in a bottle, as inXile CEO Brian Fargo notes that the company’s goal is to create an “online destination for people to show off their creative talents across a number of different game and non-game media environments.” Among other things, players can anticipate to use the network to create and share content created using the company’s upcoming Wii and DS adaptations of Line Rider, giving us another reason to look forward to the cult Flash time waster’s launch this summer.

The days where we’ve to spend an excessive amount of time researching video cards are numbered, if NVIDIA has anything to do about it.

NVIDIA’s VP of Content Business Development, Roy Taylor, has told GamesIndustry.biz that the company’s “current range of products is over complicated and too confusing for many customers.” He then added that NVIDIA “needed to make its products more consumer friendly.”

I agree wholeheartedly. While you and I might not personally be fooled by NVIDIA’s sinister naming scheme, there’s some ill-informed consumer out there right now purchasing a half-assed graphics card that they think will run the latest and greatest in Computer gaming.

Then again, I guess those people deserve to end up with a bad card if they’re willing to buy something that expensive without reading up on it beforehand.

In the year 2326, rival gangs form an ultra-violent streetsports league called Speedball to settle their deadly disputes. Get your steel ball into the opponent’s goal. That’s it, there are no other rules, and anything goes. The sport becomes quite popular, but it is also extremely perilous. Ten years later, Speedball becomes the national sport with sponsors, professional teams, and insa…

At Sony’s PlayStation Day, president Kaz Hirai admitted that the PS3 had a rough year last year. He also confessed that the competition was passing them up, and that the system’s software selection has been fairly weak. Wow, they do hear us!

“It’s fair to say that the first year of PlayStation 3 was somewhat a difficult one,” offered Hirai. “There were some teething problems, success from our competitors, and our customers were a tiny underwhelmed by the range of titles that were available.”

“This was something that we were very much aware of, and something that we were confident we could over come,” he stated.

Of course, Kaz had to state something about the delays of their online service, Home. He says that he realizes that gamers were disappointed, and apologizes for this too!

“I realise this announcement was disappointing to many people, from TGS where we were aiming for a spring launch, so please accept my apologies for this delay.”

“But as I stated at Tokyo Game Show, I wouldn’t open up Home until I was completely happy with it, and I still stand by that statement.”

As Samit told us yesterday, Home is set for release later this year.

Own a PlayStation 3 and having an issue with Grand Theft Auto IV’s? Rockstar might finally have the fix, having just released a new patch that “prevents Gamespy’s servers from being overloaded and therefore reduces the impact on those servers that were causing the game to stutter and lock up.”
