Killzone 2 has been surrounded by controversy for years since a trailer for the game was used to sell the graphical power of the PlayStation 3 to the masses at E3 2006. While Sony was screaming “ZOMG IN-GAME FOOTAGE,” gamers everywhere were yelling “STFU PRE-RENDERED CUTSCENE!” Ever since then, we all have been waiting to see if the real Killzone 2 could live up to the hype.
Well, if the above trailer from last week’s SCEE PlayStation Day in London is any indication, Killzone 2 might actually deliver. Yeah, it’s not as impressive as the more recent (partially in-game footage?) trailer from E3 2007, but I think it comes pretty close. Check it out for yourself and let us know what you think.
Impressed by the graphics? Bored because it looks like each other generic FPS out there? Annoyed by all the “in-game footage” talk surrounding this game? How do you think it stacks up to the E3 2007 trailer? Hit the jump for a comparison.

That’s it boys, the console war is finally over. You can roll out the red carpet and welcome your new king, as publisher AQ interactive confirms that Vampire Rain, up until now a hot Xbox 360 exclusive, is coming to the PlayStation 3.
For the past year, Sony and Microsoft have tussled over those all-important exclusives. Sony would love Gears of War, while Microsoft would think about Metal Gear Solid quite the coup. However, the latter company has always had the edge thanks to Vampire Rain. The horror game is a very special blend of underpowered weaponry and shoddily stitched together stealth that gamers found irresistible. Quite simply, it is the best game the 360 has ever had, and losing its exclusivity is going to be devastating for the company.
While analysts are not predicting total bankruptcy for Microsoft, it is rumored that this announcement will be a financial nightmare, and could very likely see MS selling its games division to Kentucky Fried Chicken. Once the renamed Vampire Rain: Modified Species hits the PlayStation 3, it is believed that Sony stock will rise so high that Wall Street will actually bleed — real blood will seep from building walls and paving slabs as the location itself hemorrhages under the pressure of pure concentrated profit.

Wow. This could turn out to be great news. According to a Variety article, Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean director) has been snagged to direct the motion picture adaptation of Bioshock. Even superior, John Logan, the screenwriter on The Last Samurai, The Aviator, Gladiator and more, is going to be doing the screenplay. AND, the Take Two Chairman, Strauss Zelnick, has supposedly structured the deal in such a way that it actually happens, unlike other notable video games movies that have attempted to run the Hollywood gauntlet. With such a setup as this, we could be looking at the beginnings of the ideal video game motion picture ever made. Hmm … we wonder what Uwe Boll thinks of this?

With so much Ninja Gaiden news arriving this week we’re having a tiny trouble keeping pace. What with the pre-orders, the videos, the generally liberal amount of blood, and the “Power Rangers for grown-ups” character design, things having been looking pretty good. So it was only logical that there would be some bad news eventually. In this case it’s the return of the deadly Horse Armor Syndrome. Come this July, Live will see DLC the likes of which it has not seen since the dark days of the early Marketplace.
Each of the first three pieces of DLC is just a skin, just a texture and model. Just, ya know, Horse Armor. Those in Europe will receive a download code for their Dress-Up Ninja[TM] DLC packs as their pre-order bonus, but the rest of us will have to pay 200pts per pack if we want them. And sadly, (so long as there’s some sort of Hurricane-Pack-thing as well) we really do want them.
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

While confirming Home will “definitely be coming out in Autumn,” SCEE president David Reeves stated that “maybe we were too ambitious with the non-gaming applications within Home, getting sponsors and stuff like that.” In an interview with CVG, Reeves continued to state, “In that sense we were deserting gamers. So, we’re concentrating on the gaming by launching games in Home.”
The closed beta for Home is still ongoing. Earlier today, EA Sports president (and former Xbox executive) Peter Moore said he was interested in the service but “disappointed” by its delays. Home producer Daniel Hill told our friends at PS3 Fanboy that game spaces will be shown later this month.

We’re sure PS3 owners can carve out a little time this day from all the GTA IV and echochrome playing to check out the demo for “exclusive” shooter Haze. Of course, what most are probably excited about is that PixelJunk Monsters‘ expansion is out this day at a reasonable $6 price. There are also plenty of other tiny interesting things in the North Amercan update that might pique some of your interests, and it can all be found after the break.
The lists for this week’s double dose of European PSN updates can be found over at PS3 Fanboy. Be sure to check out all their PlayStation Day coverage as well.
