According to a “well-placed source,” Atlas Entertainment (the production company responsible for the breathtaking Twelve Monkeys and Three Kings) has just purchased the film rights to PlayStation 3 game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.
Nothing has been confirmed or denied, but we here at Destructoid will, of course, keep you updated once we learn more.
My two cents: We all want videogames to be a respected medium, right? Uncharted is one of the most awesomely cinematic experiences I’ve ever had playing a videogame. To be honest, it might be better than most action movies as you can actually watch and play.
So why mess with it? Why not just leave it be and have people admire and respect it for the piece of art that it already is? Will a motion picture version really make it any better?
What do you all think? Do you concur with me, or would you love to see Uncharted on the large screen? If all this is true, who do you think would make a good Nathan Drake?

Holy crap. Codemasters must be swimming in money! Recently they bought up Sega Racing Studios, and now they’re giving away cars?
We’ve been keeping our eye out for Codemaster’s Race Driver: GRID after seeing how extraordinary it looks. Now we’ll be keeping our eye out on our time trial lap times in the demo, as the best times have the opportunity to win a new Ford Mustang GT-R. The top 5 times (US only) will be whisked away to the GRID launch celebration in San Francisco to participate in “The eBay Motors Muscle Series Time Trial” to determine the winner of the eBay Motors Mustang. You’ll want to check out the Terms and Conditions first.
To get started, grab the demo now on Xbox Live or PSN. Then, select the San Francisco GP track and compete on the internet to beat the world record lap time for the San Francisco eBay Motors Muscle Cup Track. Once you have beaten the world record lap time of the San Francisco eBay Motors Muscle Cup Track, select “Finish Time Trial” and follow the instructions. You’ll have to enter a code on Codemaster’s Web page to enter your time.
And to our UK buddies? Don’t be bummed that you can’t enter our contest; your contest is better! Your winner gets a BMW Series-3!

So I heard there was this videogame called Grand Theft Auto IV that everyone was playing. THQ has probably heard of it as well, and would like to remind you that Saints Row 2 has the unenviable task of following it. This is the latest trailer for the GTA clone’s sequel, Saints Row 2.
The first Saints Row was doubtlessly successful in part due to the lack of any current-gen GTA at the time, so this game is going to have to pull out all the stops, as well as carve its own niche, if it wants to stand out. It seems to be doing so; while GTA upped the realism and storytelling of its last game, Saints Row appears to be going in a more cartoon-like direction, with over-the-top weaponry like chainsaws and shockpads and a more obvious comedy route, at least in this trailer.
I hope Saints Row 2 continues to pursue that direction. The first game followed in GTA’s footsteps a bit too much, especially in terms of its humor and story, which came off as desperate and reaching. If Saints Row 2 gets a character all of its own, rather than trying to ape the style of the game it copied, I think it’ll be great.
We’ll see, though. After the last game’s utterly childish pimp missions and “drugs are clever” mentality that GTA grew out of, I wonder if the writers have what it takes to look like anything but a GTA wannabe. I really hope they do, though.

The rumors of Pandemic working on a new Lord of the Rings title have been confirmed today, and it’s definitely not the dead-on-arrival role-playing title, The White Council. Sticking with what they know ideal, Pandemic will deliver a large-scale battle title, Lord of the Rings: Conquest to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Computer later this year.

With less than a week to go before Assault Heroes 2 arrives on Xbox Live Arcade (it’s scheduled to drop on May 14), Sierra is ramping up the publicity, releasing a new two part trailer featuring some of the game’s massive bosses. There seems to be an obsession with throwing mechanized versions of various fauna at players this time around, as the bosses featured in the video are the Mecha Gorilla, Mech Scorpion, Mecha Killer Orca (really?), Mecha Snake, Mecha Quadruped, and Mecha Demolition (guess they ran out of animals with that last one). Suffice it to state that the bosses are appropriately large and they seem to be capable of dealing death quite adequately. We approve. Find the second trailer after the break.

It’s hard to know what exactly we did to deserve this fine month of Might. First we get the Iron Man motion picture. A new Indiana Jones comes out later this month. Then there’s all this Ninja Gaiden II coverage (not to mention the demo coming out sometime this month). GameTrailers has just unleashed a veritable flood of Ninja Gaiden II videos. Seriously, there are six of them. Seasoned Ninja Gaiden players will likely feel the urge to yell at whomever is behind the control though (he never jumps!!!11!!). Still, it’s new footage and we’re not about to complain. To be fair, we’ve actually featured one of the videos already, but we’re throwing it in again anyway because the GameTrailers player is much, much better than GameSpy’s. Check ‘em all out after the break.

EA returns once more to the golden money spigot that is The Lord of the Rings franchise with The Lord of the Rings: Conquest. Currently under development at Pandemic, IGN states that Conquest is essentially the studio’s Star Wars: Battlefront set in the LOTR universe. Players will take control of the series’ many creatures and characters (no word on whether or not the game will feature heroes

When Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe was announced we assumed that the game’s violence level would be downgraded to accommodate the new partnership, apparently we were only slightly correct.
In an interview with GameTap, Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon notes the team at Midway has never mentioned the loss of fatalities in the latest installment of the franchise. “We did acknowledge that we won’t be able to do the same kinds of outrageous moves, like tearing someone’s [sic] head off and the spine being attached to it,” he states, adding, “My response is that, no, we’re modifying fatalities. But I’ve each intention to keep finishers.”
With that said, we’re forced to wait for new video and screens of the game to understand what Boon’s definition of “finishers” really is. Is Mortal Kombat really only about violent end-match animations or is that statement akin to claiming Grand Theft Auto is only about killing people? We suspect we’ll find out soon when more information on Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe becomes available.

It has been far too long since we’ve talked Castle Crashers (eight days to be exact), so we figured we’d jump over to the Castle Crashers dev blog to see what’s new. Upon arriving, we found out that our The Behemoth friends have attempted a first pour cast of the promised Castle Crashers bronze trophies. So far, they have a few kinks to work out, but nobody ever stated bronze casting was an easy process. The other piece of newsy news is the reveal of the Seahorse animal orb! Not only will this little guy make you move quicker in water, but it’ll also melt your enemy’s hearts with its stone-faced smile.
Okay, we’re good. That should be enough Castle Crashers news for at least twelve hours.
