Gears of War 2 multiplayer details were noticeably lacking at this year’s Spring Showcase, as Microsoft sticks to their well thought out marketing plan by feeding eager fanboys nuggets of GoW2 info piece by piece . But sometimes information leaks prematurely from loose lips, loose Cliffy B lips that make us believe that we have the ability to count on four player Gears of War 2 co-op come November.
Why do we speculate four player Gears 2 co-op? Well, because we think Cliffy B actually let slip the secret in a recent interview with Gamespot. You’ll have to click towards the jump to watch the video interview (stupid Gamespot embedding works like crud), fast forward to about 4:12 and listen carefully to what Cliffy says. From what we have the ability to tell, it sounds like Cliffy says “the co-op is drop in, drop out, multiple difficulty settings, four co-op players, uhh, much more multiplayer modes.” Four co-op players? Hmm, he either confirmed GoW2’s four player co-op secret or said something about “more co-op players”. Either way, we’re thankful Cliffy’s loose lips divulged such hush, hush news.

We’ve all kinds of sports in the United Says, but the “big four” (baseball, football, basketball, and hockey as a distant fourth) generally take precedence over everything else. Still, tennis has a decent following here, especially with American talent like James Blake and Andy Roddick being successful at the moment. And the phenomenal success of Wii Tennis shows that, at the very least, tennis is a viable videogame sport.
2K Sports’ Top Spin series has come to be regarded as the pinnacle of simulation tennis videogames, and to uphold that impressive pedigree, the France-based studio PAM Development has been working on Top Spin 3 for most of the past two years. Destructoid was invited to a conference call with Anthony DeLuca, a producer on the game, and he gave us the skinny on what to anticipate in Top Spin 3. You can view the first gameplay trailer above, peep 15 new screens below, and hit the jump for my notes on the game.

Well, PS3 owners don’t really have much to look forward to this week from the PSN update, but those with a PSP can try out the new Secret Agent Clank demo. Maybe we spoke too soon, some people might be interested in the Rocketmen expansion or the Dragon Ball Z demo. Don’t forget that new echochrome levels are now available, although it isn’t technically part of the PSN update, it seems worth mentioning here. Find the full NA update after the break.
The European PSN update is happily posted in the town square over at PS3 Fanboy.

I hear some people who play World of Warcraft still have social lives and care about things other than epic raids, and this does my heart good, as I worry that gamers are falling into that pit that Chinese MMO fans are rapidly being sucked down. I like MMOs, but I don’t want to die for them!
Regardless of what category your WoW habit falls into, you’ll be pleased to know that Vivendi has confirmed the Wrath of the Lich King expansion for this year. Blizzard is remaining tight-lipped, so I’m not sure you should don your epic armor just yet, but it looks positive so far. Also, its been suggested that polar bears will be added as mounts, even though there’s no confirmation on that either. That nearly makes me want to play the game just to get one … I freaking love polar bears.

Hockey is a sport that, sadly, has absolutely fallen off the radar of most Americans. Out of the four major sports in America, it was already the least popular one, but losing the entire 2004-05 season due to that damn lockout dealt the sport a terrible blow. And when ESPN decided not to renew its broadcasting contract at the start of the 2005-06 season, hockey became hard to find on TV.
But it’s still the top dog in Canada — I’m sure our Canadian readers, such as DJDuffy and The GHost, can attest to that. And plenty of gamers around the world certainly enjoy the hockey videogames that come out each year. So tear yourself away from the Stanley Cup Playoffs for a moment and check this out: 2K Sports has just announced that Rick Nash of the Columbus Blue Jackets will grace the cover of NHL 2K9.
Nash is one of the NHL’s brightest young stars. At the NHL All-Star Game this January, he scored the quickest goal in All-Star history (just twelve seconds into the game), and completed the game with a hat trick (for those of you not hip to the hockey lingo, that means that he scored three goals in the game). Pretty impressive, no?
You’re going to have to wait a while to get your hands on the game, though; NHL 2K9 will be out this fall for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 2. For more info, hit up the press release after the jump.

We’ve finally got some gameplay footage from Madden NFL 09 — and it’s more than the two seconds or so that we saw in the teaser trailer. This trailer showcases just under a minute and a half of video. For the most part, it comprises people getting (and trying to avoid getting) tackled. If you find smash-mouth football unsettling, or you just don’t like seeing people get the crap kicked out of them, you might not want to click the ‘play’ triangle above.
Obviously, people are excited about NaturalMotion’s upcoming football game, Backbreaker, for many reasons — not the least of which is that it’ll make use of the company’s already-famous Euphoria physics engine. The tackle animations in Madden 09 don’t look quite as realistic, but they’re not too shabby, either. It’s clear that EA Tiburon has been working diligently to improve that aspect of the game. The “flow” of the game looks much superior than it has in the past.
Still, am I the only person who feels that any and all football videogame footage should be set to NFL Films music? That stuff is inspiring. Oh, well…this trailer is all about the visual impact of Madden 09, and on that front, it delivers. Hit the comments to let us know what you think of it.

Whores, each last one of them. Except for you, MRirian.
That’s what I find myself saying just about each time I check out the popular videos on YouTube. There’s always countless videos of skanky young girls doing seductive/awkward web cam dances in the upper ranks… not that I’ve a problem with that or anything. Now these skanky gals may make their way into your PS3 games, alongside videos of cute puppies, nifty dog tricks, and that weird girl that stares into the camera for a minute or two before waving good-bye (above).
Develop states that Sony Personal Entertainment has added support for the YouTube API to the PS3 SDK, making the PS3 the first system to officially support the video site. This would let developers easily integrate YouTube uploading into games, getting these game makers into the popular user-created content world.
This technology will debut in the free Japan-only Mainichi Issho daily news and entertainment service, and will uploads of user-created movies to YouTube directly within the game.
What do you think about this? Do the countless American Idol recaps have a place in your gaming?
