After a much too long hiatus, the rumor mill is back to its rumor mill ways and brings us word that Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell Conviction has been delayed … into 2009 … or 2010 … GASP!

According to CVG, the latest issue of Xbox World 360 reports that Ubisoft Montreal has gone “back to the drawing board” in regards to Conviction’s development after realizing how outdated its gameplay mechanics really were in comparison to Ubisoft’s own Assassin’s Creed. But for now, the long, long, long delay is just a rumor. Though, with Ubisoft’s refusal to comment on stated rumor, we can’t help but start to come to the sad realization that our Conviction must wait a few more years. Depressing …

In the same interview that brought word of the 350MB XBLA restriction increase, Microsoft’s David Edery wanted to make it known that the Xbox Live Arcade is where it’s at and thinks that it will “leapfrog” the competition with the user-created XNA roll-out later this year.

Talking about both Nintendo’s WiiWare and Sony’s PSN, Edery mentioned that XBLA’s XNA component “from an innovation perspective it’s going to help us leapfrog the competition, effectively until they find a way to copy it, assuming they ever do.” Zing! Zing! Zing! But before we start the mudslinging, we have a bunch of questions that need to be answered. Questions like: Can user-created XNA content releasing to the XBLA differentiate it from what Nintendo and Sony are doing? Will it be easy to use and navigate? Will the XNA integration actually happen in 2008? Will it rain today? We can only hope our mountain of questions will be answered soon …

Speaking with GamesIndustry.biz, Microsoft’s Worldwide Games Portfolio Planner for Xbox Live Arcade, David Edery just confirmed that the XBLA’s file size restriction has just been increased as Microsoft does away with the old 100MB limit.

As part of the “steady progress”, Edery confirmed word that they’ve raised the XBLA’s size limit to a hefty 350MB after they’ve been “listening to our partners, listening to our customers to try and get a feel for what’s right.” The raise in file size limit is, what we think overall to be a good thing for the market that will probably allow richer, deeper and more involved XBLA games. We agree with Edery, it’s just “good for the ecosystem.”

It’s been a few hours since the games industry took a sh*t on Europe, so I’d say we’re due another story about how we get the shaft, wouldn’t you? We already talked about how the Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 bundle would omit the DualShock 3 controller for Europeans, but the gimping of the deal hasn’t stopped there — we will be getting no special edition PlayStation 3 either.

While American readers can be safe in the knowledge that they’ll have DualShock 3’s and gunmetal grey PlayStations, we Europeans will be shortchanged with standard Sixaxis controllers and bog-standard black hardware. Konami has stated that Europe “won’t ever” get the special grey PS3.

And gamers in this territory should pay European prices for this … why, exactly?

Not all previews of the soon-to-be releases Ninja Gaiden II have been glowing. According to impressions from Next Gen: Edge the game is cursed with a major design flaw, a bad camera.

“This isn’t a problem with it getting caught on a corner occasionally, nor the odd confusing switch of perspective. It is a constant problem: obscuring foes, breaking up combos, losing track of Ryu, and flicking back and forth between positions.”

While this isn’t the first preview we’ve read citing the camera as an issue, previous impressions came from older builds of the game, however the most current build shown at press events was the final code. So are we in for heartbreak when Ninja Gaiden II drops next month?

While the preview does praise Ninja Gaiden II for being one of the best 3D fighting engines ever made, they wonder how Team Ninja got the basic design of camera control utterly wrong. Remembering the original Ninja Gaiden had camera issues, is this something you’ll be able to deal with or did this just break the deal for you and cancel that Ninja Gaiden II pre-order?

Sometimes it nearly feels like people are trying really hard to start controversy where there isn’t any. Arizona’s KTVK-TV is the latest in a long line of videogame fear mongering by warning parents of the horrors of the ‘meat shield,’ according to Game Politics.

Citing a Yahoo!Games report detailing features in Gears of War 2 KTVK-TV warns, “A popular video game for the Xbox 360 is getting a sequel this year - and it seems to be raising eyebrows with its level of gore and detail … The game certainly attracted attention for its realistic visuals and battle scenes, but caused some pause when game designers showed off a new attack players can use in the game.”

The report continued to warn, “Players can pick up the corpses of fallen enemies and use them as a “meat shield” to protect themself from enemy fire as they engage in battle from behind the corpse.”

As good as Gears 2 looks, calling it’s visuals realistic is like saying E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial is based on a true story. Are we really resorting to hyping-up hate for a game months before it releases?

State hello to Ashlotte Meideru, Soul Calibur IV’s newest fighter. Ashlotte is a brand new character that was designed by Ito Ōgure, more commonly known by his pen name as Oh! Great. Not much is known at this point other than that she’s very pale and her axe/spear combo weapon looks badass. Ashlotte is also the fourth bonus fighter who was created by a guest anime artist for the game.

So far, out of all the new fighters introduced to Soul Calibur IV, Ashlotte is my favorite looking one. I adore the outfit and actually love the fact that her breasts aren’t more massive than her head. No, hear me out here. See, if her breasts were huge and bouncing around all over the place, I’d get too distracted. Now, I can actually play as a female character and not worry about my other “joystick” in the process.
