By golly we’ve another Video Marketplace Weekly first, because today is the first time ever in the Video Marketplace Weekly feature’s existence that it is making its debut on a Sunday. Why a Sunday? Well, we could feed you a list of made up excuses, but we think our relationship is at a point where we have the ability to be 100% honest with eachother. The reason is very easy … we forgot. Shame on us! Shame! Shame! Shame! But look on the bright side, you still get a complete and comprehensive list of new U.S. motion picture releases to the XBVM albeit a day or two late. Enjoy, be happy and maybe rent a new motion picture release off the Marketplace this lovely Sunday evening.

Most of us have fond memories of the sports games of a simpler time: making little Wayne’s head bleed in NHLPA Hockey ‘93, proving Bo knows almost everything in Tecmo Super Bowl and the hit-n-run ambulance in Madden ‘92. With so many awesome experiences you’d think someone would bring back sports games to their glory on XBLA. Well, according to a listing on the ESRB website someone is.
On Friday, the ESRB website added a listing for RBI Baseball by upstart developers Six Degrees Games. While the new development team does not list the game on their website, their job listing section notes the team is “inventing a new generation of vibrant, mass-market gaming applications for the internet,” which lends weight to the game being an Arcade release.
While we’re on the subject, here’s a free tip to EA. Take the classic Madden and NHL source codes, add new teams and updated rosters, sprinkle in some online play, watch XBLA monies pour in.
Your classic sports game history lesson available after the jump.

Everything I’ve ever seen of the PS3 safari sim Afrika looks astonishing. Allowed, I still have no idea what gameplay will be like in this title, but it looks great enough that I find myself drawn to it. I’m hoping it will be a high-definition adaptation of the Pokemon Snap formula. Stop laughing.
While we still have no official word on release, Play-Asia is saying that Afrika will be released on August 28th. This rumor comes to us by way of Siliconera, who states that the importer also managed to nail down the date of Initial D: Special Stage before anyone else.
Of course, there’s always the chance that this could turn out to be absolutely wrong. We’ll mark it as a rumor and continue to remain hopeful.
One thing’s for sure: this PS3 game will definitely be superior than the 1980s hit song “Africa” by rock band Toto. The song is sh*t and the words make no sense at all. This song also ranks in my top ten list of the worst instrumental solos ever to be recorded!

In an effort to milk the Gears of War teat for all its worth (mental picture), this Summer Microsoft is set to release a new edition of the original Gears of War that’ll come packed with all previous released DLC and a cheaper price tag too.
According to Gamestop’s pre-order listing for the title, the new edition of Gears of War will cost $39.99 and feature what we presume to be the Hidden Fronts and Discovery channel sponsored DLC. And just to make sure we’re on the same page, we highly doubt this re-release will feature any of the Gears PC content seeing that Epic has made it more than clear (on numerous occasions) that bringing the content to the 360 is nigh impossible. So, if you’ve yet to experience curb-stomping and Locust dismemberment, we think June 24th would be the perfect time to “jump in” with chainsaws a revving.

We haven’t heard news such as this since the last time Microsoft was showing off the so far poorly executed Live Anywhere. Beginning Monday, the Japanese phone service provider NTT DoCoMo will grant its users to pay for MSpoints or a Gold Subscription right from their phone. Any buys made via the “DoCoMo Mobile Payment Service” are charged to the phone bill, thus bypassing any form of credit card information going to MS. While a move such as this isn’t exactly out of character for a company, we’ve to wonder about the practicality of it for the masses.
The most useful situation would be if you were the type of player who uses point cards and doesn’t have any CC info associated with their Gamertag. Buying points via phone could save a trip to the store AND keep the evil empire away from your bank info. However, if this comes to the US we foresee many, many XBL brats using their phones to avoid bugging mom and dad for their credit cards ….

While it was never a massive success and never really lived up to its full potential, the Zune was a good tiny device that no doubt sold more than it might’ve otherwise had it not been available at dedicated game stores. Now after nearly two years, the media player is
being dropped from the one of the US’s largest games retailers.
Citing a lack of customer appeal and their own misplaced anticipation, (perhaps they thought MS would bring some games to the device) Gamestop will no longer be selling the Zune in-store and will only be selling them on the web as long as it takes them to run through their existing inventory. Hmm … hopefully this’ll mean that the on the web store will have some good discounts as its stock gets low ….
