Emma’s huge hit.

The kind souls at EA have given Destructoid 50 more demo tokens to give away. We’ve 25 codes for Xbox 360 and 25 for PlayStation 3 to giveaway. Just like yesterday, you’re going to have to put some effort into snagging these codes.

Lately, I’ve had a love for pictures containing awesome things happening in front of explosions. All you have to do to get these tokens is use a pic editing program to have something awesome happen in front of an explosion. It can be anything you want, so long as it’s in front of an explosion. The only restriction is that it has to be clean (no porn or gross stuff).

Put whatever you create in the comments below and make sure you specify what system you want the code for. Codes will be sent out throughout the day to the e-mail address associated with your Dtoid account. Good luck.

Even though details on the triumphant return of Beyond Good & Evil are scarce, Ubisoft has at least confirmed one thing that might worry hardcore fans of the game — the sequel is stated to be “more accessible” than the original, likely to ensure it actually sells this time.

“We saw with Beyond Good & Evil that so many customers were extremely happy with the game,” said Ubisoft president Yves Guillemot following the Ubidays ‘08 reveal. “We had a different audience at that time. We’d more core gamers than casual gamers than we have this day.”

“We think the game was probably a tiny too difficult for the general gamers at that time. We’re going to make [Beyond Good & Evil 2] more accessible and make sure that it’s really done for the new generation that’s come into video games.”

I have the ability to understand Ubisoft worrying after the financial flop that was the original, but did any of you really think it was a hard game? I didn’t think it was that difficult (save for the end boss, rargh), and I worry each time a game series threatens to dumb itself down. That said, given how badly the first game did, we’re lucky to get this sequel so I suppose one must find such compromises reasonable.

It’s still a rumor at this point, but the mighty Internet has been not so quietly rumbling about something called in-game XMB, and its connection to every firmware update the PS3 has ever had. Did you actually think that this one would be any different?

The latest word on the street has it that firmware update version 2.40 is the magic number — and we have the ability to expect it as soon as June. According to sources quoted by IGN, that universal friend’s list, trophies, and in-game messaging that PS3 owners have been jonesing over since the console was first released, will soon be a reality.

Keep in mind that we’ve all been down this road many times before, so keep your enthusiasm to a minimum until something concrete is announced by Sony. However, we invite you to think about the timing of this whole thing. With Metal Gear Solid 4’s June release date — Could you think of a better time than now for Sony to step up to the plate deliver a nice two-pronged attack? We can’t either.

[Thanks, Adam]

The latest Too Human developer diary has been released (according to DCEMU, it should be on Xbox Live sometime today). This episode focuses on the game’s two player co-op mode. Of particular note are the loot sharing options and skill manipulation. Co-op play offers three different options for divvying up the loot found during play. Loot can be distributed randomly, free-for-all and round robin. The first two are self-explanatory (with free-for-all being the best options for the ultra competitive), but round robin is a little different. Round robin alternately gives each item to a different player. In other words, player one gets the first item, player two gets the next item, player one gets the next, etc.

The second revelation in the video is that players will be able to reorganize their entire skill tree at any time. It costs a certain amount of in-game currency, but it also means that you won’t have to create a new character if you’re unhappy with the skills you’ve chosen. Not only that, but it will grant players to customize their character based on a given situation (like choosing new skills that compliment your co-op partner, for examply).

Finally, the video continues The Goblin Man of Norway, the fake documentary that began in the previous developer diary. We’re again reminded of Halo 3’s Believe ad campaign, which is by no means a bad thing. Check out the (very long) video after the break.

Lionhead community manager Sam sends us word that Lionhead is looking for artist models to pose for Fable II paintings. Just envision, you could be walking through a finely appointed home in Albion one day only to see a virtual painting of yourself hanging on the wall. Just how do you achieve this life-altering cameo? It’s easy, snap a photo of yourself in a suitably artistic pose (see the above image for inspiration) and send it to webmaster [at] lionhead [dawt] com with the subject “FABLE 2 ART MODELS WANTED” (or you could just click this link). Lionhead advocates that you “Think old master, royal portraits or even the Mona Lisa! Dress up as an old or modern hero, go out to the countryside and find yourself a deer to shoot (not recommended) or just strike a suiting pose in front of an open fire.” Lionhead also recommends acting out an expression from the original Fable.

Entries have to be in by Wednesday, June 4, so you’d better hop to it. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’ve to go dig up our smoking jacket.

This, this may actually be the weirdest Rock Band Weekly ever. This week we get a combo platter of Jimmy Buffet and Disturbed. Our brain actually gave up for the rest of the week on this news, so we’ve really got nothing else left to add. But, we have pulled out the crushed ice and lime juice and are ready to waste away the weekend. This gives us hope that one day we’ll get Abba Gold as a DLC album. Harmonix, make it so!

Two packs: Buffet (440 Microsoft Points / $5.50) and Interrupted (240 MS points / $3)

  • “Margaritaville” - Jimmy Buffett (160 MS Points / $2)
  • “Cheeseburger in Paradise” - Jimmy Buffett (160 MS Points / $2)
  • “Volcano” - Jimmy Buffett (160 MS Points / $2)
  • “Indestructible” - Disturbed (80 MS Points / $1)
  • “Inside the Fire” - Disturbed (80 MS Points / $1)
  • “Perfect Insanity” - Disturbed (80 MS Points / $1)

Videos for these tracks can be found after the break (one Interrupted video may be NSFW). DLC will be available next Tuesday and Thursday for Xbox 360 and PS3 respectively.

Video game collectors have just been given a golden opportunity (and another thorn in their significant others’ side). Nintendo of Canada is cleaning out their warehouse and is auctioning their collection of brand new, sealed retro games, with all proceeds going to United Way charity. The auctions, totaling 421 games in 24 different auctions, break down as follows:

  • 70 NES games over 4 lots
  • 169 SNES games over 13 lots
  • 182 GameBoy games over 7 lots

As of this writing, the highest bid in any auctions is US $1,013 for a collection of NES games that includes Mario’s Time Machine, Dragon Warrior IV, The Great Waldo Search and - this is the large draw, folks - George Foreman’s KO Boxing. There’s some great games in the other lots, too, with Addams Family and Lost Vikings activating the most synapses in our nostalgic minds.

Joystiq got in touch with Nintendo of Canada to confirm the auction is legit, so what are you waiting for? Bidding for all lots ends June 5.
