This is the sixth Dragon Ball Z box set that is remastered and is presented in High Definition 16:9 Widescreen. The 29 episodes of the Cell Games Saga will be spread among 6 DVDs, with extra features including trailers and an information booklet. The release date is September 16, and I’ve no idea why they used Freeza Saga Super Saiyan Goku on the cover, cheap people at FUNimation….

Electronic Arts has announced two new games in its gazillion-selling The Sims franchise. The first, The Sims 2: Apartment Life, is an expansion that sees Sims moving away from dull suburbia and beginning the hip lifestyle that only an apartment building can provide. There will also be a happenin’ new neighborhood for your Sims to explore. Exciting new locations like “coffee shops” and “playgrounds” are just waiting to provide hours of entertainment.

Apartment Life also adds the ability to control multiple Sim households, new character types, and a reputation meter. The latter allows your Sim to finally get the respect he or she deserves by making it easier to attract new friends.

The second game, The Sims 2: Apartment Pets for the Nintendo DS, also allows players to experience apartment life, but with a focus on caring for animals. Doing so will earn you new furniture for your apartment and accessories and toys for your animal friends. Oh, and there’s also a snake charming mini-game.

The Sims 2: Apartment Life will be releasing for the PC on August 22. There will also be a Limited Collection that includes The Sims 2: Double Deluxe, for those of you that are lacking the core game. Are any Sims fans planning on picking either of these up? Does the Destructoid community even have any Sims fans?

Disgaea DS isn’t the only new Disgaea game coming out this year. Disgaea 3 Absence of Justice is coming out for the PlayStation 3 this August. Although the game is coming out on the powerful PlayStation 3, Disgaea 3 is going to maintain the easy art style the game has been known for.

The guys over at Xbox360Achievements.org did some snooping around Xbox.com and discovered that Final Fantasy XI has received a Gamerscore boost. As if the game’s accomplishments weren’t already impossible enough to unlock (seriously, has anyone actually earned a 1000GS on this game?) Square Enix decided to add 25 more accomplishments, all secret because that’s how they roll, totaling an additional 250 Gamerscore. The achievement additions are speculated to be due to FFXI’s 2008 re-release. We feel for anyone who’s actually going to white knuckle it through this game to earn these new secret achievements. We advise just staying away and saving yourself the pain and agony.

This past week, the U.S. Video Marketplace has been on fire and should put any anti-XBVM fanboy’s whining to rest. For at least a week anyway. The reason we say this is because there have been numerous super new and rather enjoyable movie releases to the Marketplace these past seven days, including National Treasure 2, Semi-Pro, South Park Imaginationland and this fanboy’s personal favorite, Cloverfield. There’s a stellar list of new releases to check out after the break, so get checking and queue up some movie rentals tonight.

Last night, the NBA Finals began with the Boston Celtics taking Game 1 over the Los Angeles Lakers, 98-88. Celtics power forward Kevin Garnett finished the game with a double-double (24 points and 13 rebounds), and perhaps it was fated to be so — last night, during ABC’s NBA Pre-Game show, a thirty-second commercial revealed that he will appear on the cover of this year’s installment of 2K Sports’ NBA 2K9.

Garnett seems unabashedly enthused about the quality of the yet-to-be-released game, as the press release (after the jump) says:

“NBA 2K is where it’s AT! End of story,” stated Garnett, who is currently playing in the NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers. “It’s the game I play, the game my friends play, and the game anyone in the league serious about videogames plays. NBA 2K is the real deal, and until 2K Sports find a way to plant an elbow in your chest, it’s the closest thing to actually being there on the court. I can’t tell you how pumped I’m to be on the cover of NBA 2K9 – it’s a real honor. Now watch out! Because this fall 2K Sports and I are going to deliver the ideal basketball video game out there, period.”

Garnett, a 13-year NBA veteran, played his entire career for the Minnesota Timberwolves until he was traded to the Boston Celtics last July. His production dropped this year — he only played in 71 games during the regular season — but none of that will matter if he has the ability to lead the Celtics to an NBA title. Check out a few screenshots of KG in 2K9 below. The game will be out this fall on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 2.

I’ve always been torn regarding Rock Band DLC songs. On one hand, I’m a poor college student — so every time I say, “Well, I won’t be giving Harmonix any of my money this week,” my perpetually thin wallet thanks me. However, the flip side is that I so desperately want to pay for new songs. I purchased the ten-dollar six-pack of Boston songs without hesitation, and I’m chomping at the bit for more content. But lately, it seems that Activision has been on the ball when it comes to DLC artists, whereas Harmonix seems to be slipping.

That’s going to continue next week, when Harmonix will bring us the three winners of MTV2’s “Dew Circuit Breakout” contest. The contest began in September, when over 4,000 bands signed up for a chance to hit the huge time, and the public voted on twelve finalists (chosen by an MTV2 panel) to pick the top three very poorly named bands: The Material, The Myriad, and Them Terribles. The spoils of victory include MTV2 airtime as well as getting their songs in Rock Band: “Moving to Seattle” by The Material, The Myriad’s “A Clean Shot”, and “Bullets & Guns” from Them Terribles.

In addition to the three contest winners, the English band Max
