Filed under: News Thanks to a tipster in our last post, we’ve now heard our first real world tale of the previously rumored “Zombie Repaired” 360, code named Opus. The Opus “model” is for those who have had their 360’s red ring and have sent them off to Microsoft for repair. In an effort to use (instead of toss) the older Xenon motherboards, Microsoft is basically upgrading repaired 360’s with the Falcon model chips (65nm CPU, 90nm GPU) and one of the older motherboards that doesn’t have have HDMI, effectively creating a zombie 360 that can’t be bought in stores. According to a specific poster over at GameTrailers, when a repaired RROD is now returned to its owner it includes a slip of paper marked “OPUS” as well as a new power supply. So if you’ve recently had a 360 red ring, keep an eye out for that little slip of paper when it returns, as it basically says that your 360 is now of the undead, and thus is quite unlikely to ever die again. While sim-boxing fans look forward to EA’s Fight Night series, FaceBreaker is reminiscent of classic arcade boxers pulling nostalgic cues from Nintendo’s Punch-Out! and Midway’s Ready 2 Rumble. Developed by EA Canada, FaceBreaker marks the first title to sport the new EA Sports Freestyle brand–created to identify titles with a more casual and accessible appeal. Honestly though, this time our surprise has less to do with that fact in and of itself, and more to do with the details surrounding it. Over at the Evil Avatar forums, the news was posted that David “Solid Snake” Hayter is currently in speaks with Warner Bros. to write a motion picture based on, of all things, Lost Planet. While we shouldn’t forget that Hayter does have writing expierience, (X-Men 1 & 2) we just can’t imagine that there’s enough meat on a Capcpm third-person-shooter’s bones to actually flesh things out into a feature film. Plus, if this ends up getting off the ground, what kind of significance will the IP have by the time the motion picture is actually released? Oh well, in Solid Snake we trust. Awesome is what it is, and doubly awesome is another video introduction to one of the many classes in the popular shooter. Sure, playing it online could be problematic but the cold hard fact is that Valve’s character portraits put a smile on our face and a swing in our step. Grant us to help introduce the Sniper. Not the cold-hearted killer you might think he is, this professional assassin is governed by a set of strict rules atop his comfy camping chair–but unfortunately his parents don’t approve. It appears, however, that Bungie has indeed made it into the halls of academia. The reference in question was discoverd by a Halo.Bungie.Org member, who found it in his Management textbook (we guess they must be well managed). See? Video games can teach you things. Unfortunately, it seems the power of Bungie wasn’t enough to keep the textbook’s indexers from spelling the company’s name incorrectly. It appears in the index of the book as “Bungle Studios.” [Via Bungie.net] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments Via Xbox360fanboy

Jack Thompson: “I guess my “mistake” was not killing 3000 people to make my poinPosted by: admin in Xbox360 NewsFiled under: News ![]() He fought the law and the law is winning. Jack Thompson, hot off the heels of a Florida Bar recommendation that he be disbarred for ten years for 27 violations of professional misconduct, is again testing if the pen is mightier than the sword. In a letter written to Chief Judge Federico Moreno, Thompson claimed his current trial was a mockery of the system and demanded a fair trial. “We find yesterday that enemy combatants at Guantanamo are to get more due process from federal judges than what I am to have. I guess my “mistake” wasn’t killing 3000 people to make my point … I demand a hearing,” Thompson wrote in the letter to Moreno. Judge Moreno responded to the shocking letter by dispatching two U.S. Marshals to the home of Mr. Thompson. “The purpose of that visit was to intimidate and harass me,” Thomson wrote to Moreno following the incident. As the Florida Bar continues to seek disbarment for the controversial lawyer, Thompson is now seeking a meeting with the House Judiciary Committee in Washington to complain that the Justice Department is harassing him. Jack Thompson is famously known in the gaming community for his stance against violent videogames, particularly titles from Take Two Interactive; publisher of Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto franchise. This time its Sega commenting on the video of a game called Crucible: The Evil Within, allegedly a title under development by Silicon Knights with Sega as publisher. According to Sega representative Steve Groll, who was talking with MTV’s Multiplayer, the video leaked earlier this week isn’t a video of the game Silicon Knights is developing for Sega. “That video is not the game that Silicon Knights is creating for us. I have no idea if it is a game they’re working on for someone else, but it’s definitely not the project that Silicon Knights and SEGA are producing,” said Groll, adding that the name of the Sega project isn’t The Crucible either. Joystiq notes that Sega did file a software trademark for “The Crucible: Evil Within” in April of 2007. It was allegedly an action horror game, which certainly fits Silicon Knights’ modus operandi. Looks like we’ll have to wait and see what becomes of The Crucible. [Via Joystiq] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments Via Xbox360fanboy |
