Audience Q&A

Q: Do you plan to keep the 4/5 man typical group size or will you design for much bigger groups?
A: Group size isn’t a technical restriction, but a gameplay one. Smaller groups are better due to the camera restriction. We haven’t really decided but we’ll focus on whatever gives the ideal experience, that’ll be 4 or maybe 5 person parties.

Q: Will you increase inventory size?
A: We haven’t decided. We’re improving the inventory system and it’ll be easier to trade items between your characters or other players. We’ll pick a size appropriate to gameplay.

Q: There are a lot of WoW players and Diablo II players, which audience are you aiming at?
A: We haven’t a particular aim. We’re making the game for people who love Diablo, and there’s plenty of room for both WoW and Diablo, we’ve no intention to play one game against the other.

We brought you news last week that several major retailers were giving StarCraft II a December 3 release date. Although it was in no way official, something seemed rather fishy that they would all announce the same date a week before Blizzard’s 2008 Worldwide Invitational. That being the case, it seemed likely that Blizzard would offer some sort of statement on the matter during the event this weekend.

That’s exactly what Vice President Rob Pardo did when he trampled this rumor (along with my hopes) with all the fury of a rampaging Zerg Ultralisk. According to Pardo, Blizzard is only “about a third of the way through” the single player campaign and is currently focusing on the story and all those pretty cinematics that keep us entertained between battles. Oh well.

Pardo does mention that Blizzard will have something nice to satiate StarCraft deprived gamers at the end of this year. A demo, perhaps? He also mentions that StarCraft II will be releasing simultaneously on Macs. So, yeah, there’s that.

Does this news disappoint or are you too psyched about Diablo 3 to really care right now?

Heading into the weekend, you’ll have plenty of demo fun to participate in as Lucas Arts just released a new LEGO Indiana Jones demo to the Xbox Live Marketplace. You’ll be pleased to know that the demo is available to all Xbox Live regions and clocks in at a worthy 620MB. Indeed. Not much more can be stated about LEGO Indy other than the fact that it’s LEGO based, moderately amusing and (sadly) doesn’t include any mention of Harrison Ford or Shia LaBeouf. What a wasted opportunity.

Yes, there is more Gears of War 2 beta footage to feast your eyes upon (again pulled from ThisIsGame.com and uploaded to YouTube by AnalogHype). It’s extraordinary, almost as breathtaking as the fact that the other two Gears of War 2 beta videos are still on the internet. There are a few tasty bits in this one. We get to see the Locust version of the UFC-style punching execution for one. Perhaps most interesting is the instance of an disturbed chainsaw duel. As a Locust and COG duel it out (at around 2:45 in the video), a second Locust interrupts with his own chainsaw, thus disrupting the duel, scoring a kill and ensuring that his buddy lives to tell the tale. A beta tester then shouts “duelus interruptus.” We think that’s going to catch on.

With the new DRM tool finally available on Xbox.com, we’re sure that everyone has plenty of questions. Thankfully, Joystiq has the answers you need. What can you transfer? How many consoles can you transfer to and from? And then there are questions you may not have though about like: can you sell your licenses to someone else? What about moving licenses to the next Xbox. Head over to Joystiq for their Q&A with Marc Whitten, general manager of Xbox Live.

The Murloc costume above only placed second in Blizzard’s Worldwide Invitational 2008 costume contest. Interested to see what came in first? Check out WoW Insider’s gallery of the costume (and dance!) contest, complete with their own colorful commentary.

When you get through with that, be sure to check out their major gallery of the WWI event, including some hawt ogre-on-ogre action.
