Who knows if Diablo III will hit a console? screenshot

The answer to the question of Blizzard taking Diablo III to a console is mired in a bit of a mess right now. CVG is reporting on an interview with Blizzard’s COO Paul Sams and The Guardian about a release on either the PS3 or the Xbox 360, and the answer is unclear.

When asked directly, Sams replied fairly shakily.

I don’t know yet. A lot of it depends on whether we think the gameplay experience will be the same on console, especially regarding the controls. Also I’d like to keep our audience together.

Sams then went on to comment on the give and take that developers face when porting a game onto a console.

When you are developing for multiple platforms you sometimes have to compromise. We aren’t willing to compromise. We’ve relationships with all the console manufacturers. I know they would love to have us on their platforms, ideally on their own and not their competitor! But it’s all about the game experience.

For quick reference on the whole matter, I got out my copy of Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance and rapidly starting killing rats in a cellar. I can now personally confirm that Diablo III’s action will translate to a console. For future review, I think I’ll try running across the city map in GTA IV. I assume that hitting the “A” button that many times in succession is bound to give me an even superior idea of the Diablo III experience.

Doesn’t this just seem like Blizzard is trying to be inclusive for the sake of it? I have the ability to certainly comprehend how it would be troubling to port a game designed specifically for the mouse and keyboard, but many developers have succeeded in this regard. Furthermore, I find it laughable that Blizzard is probably going to be willing to take the time to make Diablo III Macintosh compatible, but the idea of going to a console is just too silly.

This day, the Australian arm of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 division announced pretty competitive Xbox 360 price cuts across the board. The price cuts affect not only the Pro console, but also the Arcade and Elite dropping the Xbox 360 Arcade to AU$349 (from AU$399), the Pro to AU$499 (from AU$579) and the Elite to AU$649 (from AU$729). This price cut move makes all versions of the Xbox 360 cheaper than the PS3 in the region and the Arcade console actually undercuts the Wii which is priced at AU$399. Nice!

These Australian price cuts obviously beg the question of whether or not we’ll see a global Xbox 360 hardware price cut in time for E3. And although Microsoft’s Australian team refuses to acknowledge any other territory price cuts, we have even more faith in the leaked fliers. Global hardware price cuts incoming, keep your eyes peeled.

Continuing their downloadable content release frenzy, Guitar Hero III will be releasing another free download this Thursday, July 3rd, just in time to celebrate the Fourth of July.

This Thursday, available as free download off the Xbox Live Marketplace will be the “Top Gun Anthem” as GHIII downloadable content. An iconic 1980’s anthem that single handily changed the world. No really, it changed the world! Though, we’ll be the first to admit it is a bit repetitive and long, but we can’t help but be uber excited to celebrate our Fourth of July festivities with a tribute to our Tom Cruise Maverick. Fly on Maverick, fly on!

It looks like the promised early preview copies of Too Human have started to arrive, as we’re now being flooded with new video from the game as well as previews from both Wired and MTV’s Multiplayer. Joystiq has gone to the trouble of summing up both previews. We advocate reading both previews if you’ve the time. Having read the previews, the reaction definitely seems to be a blended one. Both previews note that the game is very short, clocking in at around 10 hours, and that the cliffhanger ending doesn’t live up to the rest of the game, with Wired’s Chris Kohler noting noting that there was “not nearly enough payoff for all the story exposition.” What story is present is apparently well told though, and, more importantly, the gameplay is reportedly very solid, as MTV’s Steven Totilo notes the game “has the potential to win fans of pure play.”

That said, Kohler notes that the game can be played again using the same character and that the game will be repopulated with more challenging enemies and remixed levels. From the sound of both previews, Too Human will find a home with fans of dungeon crawlers who intend to play through multiple times and get the ideal loot, but may suffer with those who only intend to play through once in order to like the story. Frankly, we’d settle for a good dungeon crawl on the 360. We’ll have to wait and see if the game delivers when the reviews start showing up in August.

In the meantime, enjoy some more Too Human footage after the break.

UK gamers, you might want to take a seat for this one. Speaking with Eurogamer, EA has stated that there has been a misunderstanding regarding the UK release of Rock Band 2.

“There was a misunderstanding and there’s no confirmed date for Europe,” an unnamed spokesperson from EA told Eurogamer. Yesterday we reported an unnamed EA rep hinted at a possible simultaneous release for the upcoming title.

Currently the only confirmed release information for the recently announced sequel is the title’s Xbox 360 timed-exclusivity for a Stateside launch sometime in September. Could Rock Band 2 also suffer from a late release throughout North America much like the original which launched in December 2007 in Canada? Only time will tell. More information regarding the title is expected at E3 which kicks off on July 14.

Well, well, well, looky what we’ve here. Somehow, the accomplishments for Geometry Wars 2 have been leaked onto the internets. Funny thing is, the game hasn’t even been confirmed to exist. Crazy exciting super! But crazy exciting super in a good way.

The achievements (viewable after the jump) detail what sounds to be some sort of collection of various new and old Geometry Wars game modes including Geometry Wars: Waves which was included in PGR4. We state this only because the game’s Phobia and Surf accomplishments mention Waves in their descriptions, but other accomplishments mention different game modes including “King” and “Deadline”. We guess the most obvious proof that Geo Wars 2 will feature a compilation of new modes is the ever straight forward Unlock All Modes accomplishment.

We’re pumped! We’re excited! Bring on another round of Geometry Wars and another 200 Gamerscore! W00t!

[Thanks, Dynamo Matt]
