An open world action-adventure game with some very nice looking graphics? How did we not see this before? Joystiq even wrote a preview, and yet somehow we missed it. Anywho, a new developer diary for DarkSiders has been released and the game is looking pretty nice. As said above, it’s an action adventure game with open areas, slick looking combat, puzzle solving and, of course, character upgrades. In short, it looks hot. The beginning of the video notes that the footage is taken from an E3 demo, so hopefully we’ll be getting our hands on it when the show starts later this month.

Independence Day the videogame: awful, just awful. Independence day … the day: full of blinding fireworks, painfully loud noises, and possibly some tasty grilled food.
Since you most likely wouldn’t be reading this if you were celebrating Independence day with your family, I’m going to go ahead and assume you’re up for spending your 4th of July playing games with the rest of us.
Hit the jump for the hosts and game start times as always, or feel free to ping us if you would like to be a host.

According to a post by Blizzard employee “Bashiok” on the official World of Warcraft forums, the art of PK’ing will be highly discouraged by Diablo III’s game mechanics. A poster brought up the issue because of his concern with Diablo II’s interface, to which Bashiok replied:
We’ve a large focus on cooperative play for Diablo III, and the mechanics and design decisions related to multiplayer are likely going to be based on supporting and encouraging it as much as possible, and not breaking it down.
That doesn’t mean that PvP won’t have its own focus, but those are details and features we aren’t yet discussing.
To me, that sounds like Blizzard isn’t going to change anything about the old system. Having to run back to a town just to toggle capabilities is a bit bothersome, but I don’t think rampant PK’ing is what Blizzard wants with their new title. I’ve read about how out of control “griefing” is in Age of Conan, and while hilarious, it seems like a pretty nasty problem for new players. Perhaps Blizzard just wants its potential players to purely focus on looting and gathering items like the gnomes they want us to be.
No word has yet been received on how much players can spam chat boxes, offer a dual, or make characters grunt.

Whether calling it out for being too colorful or even too conservative, Diablo 3 naysayers have certainly not lacked for ammunition to sling at the action RPG since it was made all official like late last month. Now pessimists can add another rock to the pile, with Blizzard poster Bashiok writing on the official World of Warcraft forums that the Diablo 3 devs are working to discourage online skullduggery, and that multiplayer will focus primarily on cooperative play.
Explained Bashiok, “We have a large focus on cooperative play for Diablo III, and the mechanics and design decisions related to multiplayer are likely going to be based on supporting and encouraging it as much as possible, and not breaking it down.” However, PvP will apparently have its place in the game, as Bashiok baited forumers by adding, “That doesn’t mean that PvP won’t have its own focus, but those are details and features we aren’t yet discussing.” So for now it looks like PKers will need to find another outlet for their griefing ways, perhaps by venturing outside into the sunlight for a rousing game of Freeze Tag.

Blizzard has opened US registration for the Wrath of the Lich King beta. American World of Warcraft players should probably head over to this page now and register for a opportunity to opt in. Two helpful reminders:
- Registering for the beta does not guarantee you a chance to play. It just adds your name to a pool of potential players that Blizzard will choose from.
- Beware of e-mail scams. This is the official URL: https://www.worldofwarcraft.com/account/beta-opt-in.html
Whether or not you get into the beta, be sure to check out WoW Insider for up-to-date coverage. [Via WoW Insider]

When Diablo III was officially announced at Blizzard’s 2008 Worldwide Invitational last week it was stated that the long-awaited sequel was only in development exclusively for the Computer — to the surprise of totally no one. Well, maybe some people were, as Blizzard COO Paul Sams was immediately questioned if we could anticipate to see a console port at some point down the line. Sams was quick to shoot the idea down, stating that Blizzard has no intention to “compromise … the game experience.”
While Blizzard might not have any plans to bring the hell spawn-slaying action RPG to consoles, that hasn’t stopped vice president of game design Rob Pardo from dangling a little slimmer of hope in front of console gamers.
“I think it’s theoretically possible. It would have some control changes that I think you’d have to make… But it’s probably, of our major franchises, the one that’s most console friendly, for sure.”
“You’d need to consider a lot of the point-and-click spells, like point to area-of-effect, or things like line-damage in this direction,” Pardo stated. “Target selection is something you’re going to lose on console, you’re really going to be able to do targeting direction, but not specific targeting. Out of StarCraft, Warcraft or WOW, Diablo would be the easiest game to translate. But it would still take a bit of work.”
So Blizzard could bring Diablo III to consoles, they just don’t want to. Seeing as how they’ve only been developing PC games for the past thirteen years I can certainly understand the urge to stick with what’s familiar, but then, I have a Computer that can play Diablo III. Are those of you that lack stated gaming Computer disappointed by this news?
