According to a few gaming news sources, Microsoft may still have a few aces up their sleeves heading into next week’s E3, meaning that we may actually be treated to some surprise Halo game announcement news after all.
After speaking with their inside insiders, CVG is reporting that they believe Microsoft will in fact announce a new Halo game next week that’s stated to not be a true Halo 4 seeing that Master Chief is stated to not be featured in the game. This Halo E3 rumor mongering comes in the wake of Sarcastic Gamer’s recent report, that their inside sources have also confirmed that a new Halo game will be announced at E3. Interesting stuff. Though, if a new Halo game is announced, we have a feeling it might have to do with Jackson’s episodic Halo: Chronicles which hasn’t received a formal on stage announcement yet. But if a completely new Halo game is announced … that’s cool too

Update: To clarify, the Legendary playlists within Halo 3 now require all downloadable content. So to continue playing on Legendary playlists you’ll need the free Heroic pack, the Legendary pack (which you’d need to play on that list anyway) and Cold Storage. After Bungie Day the playlists that utilize Cold Storage are playlists that require all downloadable content. Effectively making Cold Storage apart of the Legendary Map Pack after today.
Good morning ladies and gentlemen and a good Bungie Day to you. To help celebrate this, surely soon-to-be National, holiday the Xbox Live Marketplace has been overrun by Bungie related content. Available for download are a free gamer picture set and dashboard theme, both wrapped in Bungie-branded love. Also, if you’re interested, ‘Cold Storage’ — the new map for Halo 3 that re-envisions Halo’s ‘Chill Out’ — is on the internet for the low price of free. There are a few limitations to ‘Cold Storage,’ specifically you must have both previous map packs to add the new map to matchmaking, but so far the map looks hot. Or cold. Whichever works for you.
Don’t have the Heroic or Legendary Halo 3 map packs? Heroic is still available for free and as of today the Legendary map pack has been discounted to 600 MS Points. Oh and also, we’re offering 10 X3F bonus points (which don’t mean anything) to the first person to spot any Superintendent related hints in the map. Happy hunting!

If you weren’t already aware, team X3F (that’s Richard and Dustin) will be boarding a plane this weekend, flying through the clouds and safely landing in Los Angeles, California just in time for this year’s Entertainment Electronics Expo (E3) that’s going down next week. So, that means we’ll be bringing you daily coverage of all things E3 including game previews, news, interviews and other random goodness. But before we go, we need your help.
To help us help give you the ideal E3 coverage possible, we want to know what content you’re most interested in reading about. Would you like it if we’d focus more on game previews and interviews or is live blogging of all the various events and happenings of more interest to you? Or are you the kind of fanboy who wants to know all about the behind the scenes shenanigans that goes down on the expo floor and over at blogging HQ? To help gather your input, we created a handy poll for you to voice your view. Then, later in the week, we’ll tally up the votes and use the results to provide the X3F community the bestest E3 coverage we have the ability to bring. Go ahead, tell us what you want … we’re your loyal blogging slaves all next week. Just be gentle.

Many moons ago we heard of Ratchet: Quest for Booty due to a leaked PSN list, and now the ESRB has rated a very similarly named title. Although Sony hasn’t officially acknowledged the game’s existence, Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty is pretty much an open secret now following the software ratings board’s listing.
The ESRB rating doesn’t explain whether this a retail follow-up to Tools of Destruction or a standalone PSN Ratchet & Clank game. With E3 next week we’re not even going to try and pull speculative answers out of Clank’s metal heinie; a tiny bit of patience should result in answers shortly.

On the internet mega retailer Amazon.com has listed a standalone wireless drum set and wireless guitar for Rock Band 2 on Xbox 360 for $90 and $70, respectively. Of course, the bundled Xbox 360 guitar with the original Rock Band was tethered to the console and the drums were wired on all platforms, so we’re hopeful this means the instruments included in Rock Band 2’s big bundle will all be wireless. A Harmonix representative informs us that no prices, shipping dates, colors, astrological signs, or further details concerning Rock Band 2 will be released until next week’s E3.

Max Schaefer, co-founder of Flagship Studios, admits that things didn’t go exactly as planned with its first title Hellgate: London; however, he believes the developer’s sophomore effort, Mythos, is coming together much superior. Schaefer tells Eurogamer (via GI.biz) that Flagship was “probably biting off too much” as a new developer with Hellgate and was rushed at the end, but with Mythos it’s focusing on core features and taking time to polish.
Schaefer hopes Mythos can “put a dent” into some of the large MMOs out there and he believes the free-to-download-and-play model of the game — with item sales bringing in money — gives the developer a chance against the boxed subscription-based MMOs.

Just a friendly reminder that this day (July 7) is Bungie Day, which means free Bungie-related gamerpics and themes available on Xbox Live this day (and only today). Additionally, the new Halo 3 map Cold Storage is also available free of charge for today. As for that announcement that was teased over the weekend, we’ve heard nothing so far. Trust us, though, if and when Bungie announces something, we’ll let you know.
