During the Microsoft Press Conference yesterday, Harmonix unveiled the full song set-list for Rock Band 2. Nearly doubling the set list size of the original release, Rock Band 2 will include 84 tracks (all master recordings) on the retail disc, plus there are plans to release an additional 20 tracks as free downloadable content after the game’s release.

The Rock Band 2 press release, which included the final set-list for the game, also mentions that Rock Band content from the original retail disc will be transferable to the sequel, but for a price. According to the release, “owners of the original Rock Band will have the ability to export most of the Rock Band disc tracks and upgrade them into Rock Band 2 gameplay-the first time ever in videogame history!” A fee is required to unlock the content, which will be “under 5 dollars” according to the release. Also, as stated before, Rock Band 2 will support all downloadable content from the original Rock Band.

Rock Band 2 is set to release exclusively on the Xbox 360 this September. With classic bands AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses, Metallica, Pearl Jam and more added to the game, Rock Band 2 hasn’t had us this excited about music since the invention of the compact disc. Wow. Totally just aged ourselves there.

We spent some time with Dan Teasdale, senior designer of Rock Band 2, and asked him several questions — but we really wanted to know what’s the deal with transfers of Rock Band tracks to the new game. We wanted to know a little bit more about what Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos meant at the Microsoft press conference when he said most songs would be available for import.

Teasdale tells us that the final list of songs not transferable to RB2 is still up in the air and it all comes down to licensing issues. We heard from a separate source that “it should only be a couple songs” and, although the company would love to just do the whole set from the first game, there may be some exclusivity issues. Harmonix apparently had to re-license each song over again for the RB2 transfers.

At their E3 press conference today, Sony announced a few new titles for PSN. And when we say they announced the titles, we mean exactly that … they announced the titles, and practically nothing else, save for some quick video footage. The titles include:

  • Crash Commando
  • Fat Princess
  • Pain: Amusement Park
  • Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic

These titles join the previously revealed PixelJunk Eden, Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty, Siren: Blood Curse and Flower among the PSN games mentioned at the conference. More on all these titles as we hear about it.

After much anticipation and a bunch of excitement fueled anxiety, we made it to Microsoft’s Gears of War 2 multiplayer reception last night where journalist and video game execs mingled, drank some drinks and chainsawed the night away. We were able to test out a few of Gears 2’s various multiplayer modes and give the new weapons a test drive all while taking it all in, examining the gaming experience and garnering an view. Quite simply, we could state the game is “badass” and be on our way. But we’re sure you’d like a bit more explanation. Read on to get a flavor of what multiplayer mayhem you’ll be experiencing come November 7th.

Resident Evil 5 and Far Cry 2 are both Africa bound! Coming soon from Ubisoft Montreal is Far Cry 2. A sequel of sorts, Far Cry 2 takes the name from the original title developed by Crytek and features a new story and world. Taking place in an unnamed part of Africa players can expect a more realistic shooter than the original. If that guarantees we won’t be shooting up aliens in the boiling heat then sign us up! Also, check out the briefly flashed-URL that points to the blog of Reuben Monday-Oluwagembi, the personal blog of the journalist narrator from the trailer. Yay! More Alternate Reality Games! Far Cry 2 is set to release this October, the trailer is now available on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Total War screenshot

As I’ve mentioned before I’m a huge fan of The Creative Assembly’s Total War series; heck, I still fire up Rome: Total War on a pretty regular basis. This is why I was pretty excited to see some more of the latest in the series, Empire: Total War.

There might not be almost as many screens here as there were in some of Sega’s other releases, but everything that’s here’s looking pretty good. The shots of navel combat especially caught my attention. It looks like ship-to-ship combat is going to be a lot more involved then it was in past titles, which is one area I’m glad to see them addressing.

Are these shots getting any fellow strategy junkies excited for the next Total War installment?
