One of the odder points of Sony’s press conference at E3 this year was the unveiling of Polyphany Digital’s newest enhancement for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, called GT TV. Apparently, GT TV and the additional content planned for Prologue has taken the front seat, while GT 5 is almost totally off the radar. In an IGN E3 interview with Polyphony executive Kazunori Yamauchi, it was revealed that we might not see Gran Turismo 5 until 2010.

There’s no plans in the works for GT5 yet - that might be 2009, or it might be 2010… But we’re totally focused on getting the updates through for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, and that’s all we’re focused on.

Maybe I’m still a tiny too old school, but I find a game built upon the premise of buying additional content to be a bit disconcerting. I suppose I was under the impression that Prologue was a short-term placeholder for the real game. To know that I could be asked to keep supporting Prologue via content for the next year or two isn’t a good thing to be asking, even if its just videos and better physics. How do you guys feel about waiting for the “real” title?
